2 Sicarios Accused in 26 Killings

Suspected hit men for Sinaloa drug cartel arrested before dawn Tuesday.

El Paso Times

The Mexican army arrested two suspected Sinaloa drug cartel hit men accused in at least 26 murders in the northwestern part of the state of Chihuahua, military officials said.

Jose Cos Portillo, 23, alias El Tongo, and Luis Julian Mendoza Aceves, 24, alias El Chepero, were arrested before dawn Tuesday by a patrol that spotted them driving with no lights on a dirt road in Ascension. The men allegedly had an AK-47, a revolver, two bulletproof vests and 166 pounds of marijuana.

Officials also alleged the pair, who are from Palomas, guarded drug shipments and last month were involved in an attack on a Nuevo Casas Grandes police station. They allegedly work for suspected Sinaloa cartel member Maria Amaya, aka "El 11," officials said.
