Zetas Massacre 72 Illegal Immigrants in San Fernando, Tamaulipas

72 immigrants set out in search of the elusive American dream. Sadly, the Mexican nightmare brought their dream to an end only miles from their destination.

The Secretary of the Navy reported Tuesday night that 72 bodies, 58 men and 14 women, were found on a ranch in the municipality of San Fernando, Tamaulipas, 150 km. from the the U.S. border city of Brownsville.

The discovery came after a shootout with Zetas that killed one marine and three suspects.

Navy troops were alerted to the area after a wounded man arrived at a naval checkpoint requesting medical assistance after being kidnapped and wounded by members of Los Zeta cartel in a nearby ranch .

Mexican armed forces immediately took control of the area by land and air. One juvenile, linked to the gunmen, was detained.

The Navy reported seizing 21 rifles: six 5.6 mm M-4 carbines, three 7.60 mm AK-47, seven 12 gauge shotguns, five .22 caliber rifles, 101 magazines of various calibers, two ammunition belts, six thousand 649 cartridges of various calibers, four bullet proof vests, and one helmet.

Also seized were four trucks, one of them with cloned apocryphal emblems of the Ministry of National Defense (SEDENA).

Security spokesman, Alejandro Poire, said preliminary data confirm the victims were illegal immigrants originating from El Salvador, Honduras, Ecuador and Brazil.

The surviving witness told authorities the victims, while attempting to get to the U.S. border, had been kidnapped by armed men who identified themselves as Zetas.

The man, who is said to be from Ecuador, stated a group of roughly 75 immigrants, originating from Central and South America, entered Mexico through Chiapas with the intention of entering the United States.

He added the armed men tried to extort them and take their money, but when they refused, they opened fire, killing his travel mates, and leaving him for dead.

The unidentified witness narrated after hearing screams, pleading, gunfire, and seeing the assassins leave the ranch, he ran in search of help and found the Navy patrol.

The witness was taken to a Matamoras hospital where he remains in protective custody while being treated for gunshot wounds to the face and collarbone.

Federal officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, told AP the bodies were found in an open room type area, some were stacked while others were still in a seated position.
It was also reported to AP all of the victims had been killed within the last few days.

This gruesome discovery far exceeds the 55 bodies found in a Taxco mine on May 29 and the 51 bodies found in mass grave located in Juarez, Nuevo Leon on July 22.

  1. All this horror over the value we give to "money" and being/getting "rich"...how much more does each of us need in order to be happy and full-filled?

  2. Almost as soon as I saw the initial breaking story, I knew it was the Zeta's. Their atrocity, savagery seemingly knows no bounds. I think that, though, is their undoing, and I hope they don't prosper in the months and years to follow. Slaughtering a bunch of people eager to work, to support families, refuse to join their group of kidnappers, extortionists, and killers and they murdered by the dozen. The worst part is these people were probably not criminals, or gunmen, just normal tradesmen, who were probably given to the Zetas by some lowlife human trafficker.

  3. What did this horror have to do with drugs or the guvts attempt to civilize Mexico? The savagry of extortion robbery kidnapping, the complete disregard for human life, is the mark of organized crime in Mexico. This event is another daily reminder of just how out of control Mexico is. One wonders how many years of asleep at the wheel govt it took for Mexico to sink to its current level?? Good people are leaving Mx fast, the economy is sinking, just what does it take for the Mx culture of lying, deciet, corruption,to reverse itself.

  4. and the sad part is the families of some (or all) of these murdered human beings will never even know what happened to their mom/sister/aunt/father/brother/uncle/friend/cousin/etc. Just like other stories i've read, the illegal immigrants usually call home when they reach a certain point to let their families know they're okay, that they've made it across one border, etc etc...now their families will wait for a "i'm-okay-phone-call" that will never come.

how can one human being do something like this to another human being? the men who did this can't possibly be human, they must be demons.

  5. This time it was Los Zetas, last time it was El Golfo and next time it will La Familia. Different name, same garbage.

  6. I wish ONE cartel was in charge but I guess the nature of the game is someone always wants to be El Mero Mero and this leads to fractures in the Cartel like LZ/CDG.

However, I do find Los Zetas to be particularly sadistic however Beltran Leyva has also been known to decapitate people and really, how cares who did this, its sad just the same. Maybe if Los Zetas were crushed once and for all things may get better but there will always be some eager up and coming cartel, sicario or lieutenant will try to kill his Jefe/Commandante and the whole thing will start all over again.

This perfect reason legalizing drugs will make no difference, make no difference.
These beasts are not satisfied by money.
Remember Sadam's rape rooms and the decapitations for half time entertainment at football (soccer) games.

These wild beasts will not be satisfied.

  9. I disagree that 'different name-same garbage', it definitely true all the cartels have moments of extreme and horrific violence, but it is the Zeta's calling card, because of the way they started, and because they are outgunned and outnumbered by the Nueva Federation, and probably the CDG, so they use the extreme violence and intimidation to make up for their size. And, as every article notes, they started out as enforcers/kidnappers/tortures, so thats the direction their group took, none of them besides the top guys are elite military, but most of the mid level guys are probably big on the torture and brutal war tactics.

As I said, the Zeta's have made their bed, CDG, LFM, and CDS all want them gone, and I'm sure it increasingly difficult to build relationships with politicians and police officers when their image is that of a rogue band of petty criminals prone to extreme violence.

  10. It's time this mindless blood lusting Satanic Zetas get labeled as international terrorist, and the whole international community should go after them like al Qaida since they operate from Southern-Central and North America, Mexico like other failed countries, Haiti and Somalia who can not take care of themselves to maintain law and order, need international intervention to stop the mindless slaughter.

  11. From what I recall the first cartel to become widely known for extreme violence was La Familia Michoacana when they threw the severed heads of rival members into a club.

    Anyway...

This is no excuse for The Zetas. All that is being said is that they are only part of the bigger problem. Someone started them (Cartel de Golfo), some of the aid them(Juarez/Beltran/Tijuana Cartels) and some are fighting them (Sinaloa, Golfo, LFM). They should all be eliminated. Mexican citizens should not have to be put in a situation where they have to 'pick the lesser evil' or be at the mercy of an outside force coming in to clean up. What kind of backward logic is that...?

    B_B_A

    ReplyDelete
  12. its not backwards logic in the sense that if you agree to the position that drugs will be here forever and ever then that would lead one to the conclusion that:

    1. Someone is going to sell them and reap all the financial power, risk and benefits that come with the business.

    2. It would be better if they conducted this business with as little bloodshed as possible.

I don't think the PRI is anything but authoritative and oppressive, however at least they kept the violence under control. People still got their heads cut off but it was limited to those in the business. Los Zetas really changed the game and La Linea doesn't seem to want to accept defeat.

A truce or a winner in the Cartel Wars would be welcomed be many in Mexico.

  13. Once you start going after the towns people-the loyalty and trust is gone.I do not agree with the cartels being glorified, but before this war started, the cartels really did do many projects to improve the local community. The locals knew who was in it and who wan not.NOW ,you just dont know......it could be the taxi driver, the cashier at the store, the receptionist at the counter,ect...There are way too many gangs that are kidnapping people.Everyone here mentions the big 6-but there has to be a lot of independents out there. BRING THE DEATH PENALTY TO MEXICO...

I agree with you. Demonic possession is a reality. No offense to the atheist please, just another dumb immigrants opinion.

    anon @ 11:22
I do not agree that Mexico is a failed country nor can I compare it to Somalia or Haiti.

I think The Zetas will eventually be eliminated. Hopefully sooner than later. They truly are terrorist and are running out of options. It is evidenced by their behavior, especially since the beginning of this year. How long? Good question. Stay the course? That's for the Mexicans to decide. The USA, the world's greatest country,is still fighting terrorism and that war will not end. It will be a long haul. We must wash our faces, pick ourselves up, bandage the injured, bury the dead, and carry on. We are the example for the world with a very special place in history. I use the term "we" since Mexico and the USA are sister nations in this complex problem.

I also do not think an outside force will ever go into Mexico to clean it up. Mexico is a proud nation "de la Patria". They are not fanatics.

    ReplyDelete
  15. No ones making excuses for the Zeta's, I'm just explaining what makes them a unique and esp. violent glorified 'cartel'. I think the Zeta's are all on their own right now, I haven't seen any confirmed reports of collaboration or collusion between Juarez/Z, Beltrananes/Z (recently), and nothing to do with CAF/Z's. If they were in Tijuana, it would be known, , but Tijuana has murders right now, but no bloody heads, and other trademark Zeta violence. I don't think the others want anything to do with them, no one want to go at CDG, CDS, and LFM, esp. since the three I listed are def. in the lower rung as far as power right now. Plus, it's bad PR.

Whoever, sad La Familia was the first to use extreme violence, that may be a good recent example, but it's not very accurate. It's been going on since the beginning, just much more low key and less often, in 2006 CAF killed 6(?) police officers and dumped their bodies in TJ, and the heads in Rosarito.

Lastly, if Zeta's are taken almost to extinction, there is some compromise in Juarez, and La Barbie's faction of the BLO loses, there will be a significant reduction in violence. if you follow the headlines, like we all do, the violence, generally comes from these three conflicts. You could say there will just be more wars, and in time there will be, but think the cartels want this over too, it's bad for business, and they want to get back to work.

  17. These Z people and the others have and will do anything to steal money. It is Crime that is out of control in Mexico all forms not just DRUGS. Coping out making drugs legal will do nothing about the root problem-NO LAW ENFORCMENT- top to bottom,DO whatever it takes quick.

  18. WELL WELL, THE TRUE IS THAT THOSE 72 PEOPLE WERE WORKING FOR THE GULF CARTEL AND WHAT HAPPENED WAS A GET EVEN FOR THE PAST KILLINGS OF Z ON THE YESKA STREET MONTHS AGO DON;T LET YOURSELF BE FOOL BY THE GULF CARTEL THAT IS MAKING THESE ATROCITY TO ITS FAVOR TO LOOK LIKE A VICTIM ALL THESE PEOPLE WERE AT THE SERVICE OF THE GULF CARTEL AND NOW ARE DEAD FOR THE WAR BETWEEN Z AND CDG

  19. You hijos de putaa Zetas!! I'm sooo pissed!! Ya didnt have to kill them, You Cowards, dam you all to hell! You are not human! These Zetas are not narcos! These are terrorist now. WAke up mexicoo!! This is not a moment to be celebrating Bicentenario, Mexico's existence is in jeoperdy, this is mass murder, How many more can you withstand? Where is the human rights people huh? The UN? All of Mexico is corrupt, if the country is falling apart. Its because they let this trash run around. Zetarists!! Traitors to Mexico.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I don't believe that the dead were CDG, it could be true, I considered it when the story first broke, but I really don't think it's true. If the bodies had been there for months, then it would make more sense, but I doubt the Zeta's kidnapped 72 people in three days, and killed them, and it only made the news when the bodies were found. The immigrant explanation makes the most sense, to me. These people come in from Central/South America, cross the border, deal with scummy human traffickers, who have connections with the Zeta's, so the Zeta's in need of gunmen tell the traffickers to sell them or give them 150 people or so, so they take them from safe houses, tell them they are bringing them to work, and they end up on a ranch in Tampulias.

2 analize their blood for controlled substance

  25. to the anon zeta supporter, does that make it any better that you killed 72 people because of revenge? don't you people want to enjoy life for what frailty and beauty it holds as opposed to making it hell on earth for yourself and everyone else? so lets say you zetas win out one day..what then...what are you leaving behind? you people are born with the capability to contemplate the meaning of the universe and yet you choose to be the lowest common denominator on the evolutionary rung. So please enjoy all the CRAP you can buy with your blood money. Too bad its here today and gone tomorrow.

i tried logging on twice yesterday and it was frozen on an old june 2010 page of news and would not allow me to refresh. I hope it is just to update the system I will check FB.

Re: zetas extortion of migrants. I agree with "J" in his assesment of Zeta, they have a hallmark that sets them apart from the others, I also knew it would be them in the mayors murder & the 72

I read the best article of info yesterday & meant to post. In essence the migrants are targeted for extortion...kidnapped and tortured into giving tel# of relatives in central american (or wherever) and the US...they are called and demand ransom or they will torture or murder their loved one. But the fig I saw were so high. They give the migrants a choice of joining them at low level positions or ransom.

  32. This is the result of the indifference and lack of concern for the lonely children left behind by their parents who try to migrate into the usa and either made it and forgot about these children, or died in their attempt. These children grew up to become now part of this horrible and inhumane group that help spread the fear they once felt when abused by corrupt police officers, and were ignored by everyone who now asks themselves, ¡¿Por que?!

    Saddened & concerned.

  42. I'm sorry, why are these Zetas pussies aloud to get away with this? It's time for the Mexican people to rise up and beat these assholes down! If they cross into the U.S., shot on site should be the policy, no tolerance. These guys apparently can only bully the unarmed, helpless and weak. As for the U.S. government, why don't we stop pouring money into the completely senseless war 8,000 miles from our shore. If you feel the need to occupy something, occupy the hacienda and yachts of the cartel leaders! How about we help our bordering neighbor feel safe? Who knows, it might make us feel a bit safer as well!
