A suspect in the shooting death of a U.S. immigration agent in Mexico was detained by the Mexican military Wednesday, the country's Defense Ministry said.
In a statement, the ministry described the man as "probably responsible" for the February 15 ambush on a highway in the Mexican state of San Luis Potosi. More details would be made available later, the statement said.
U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement agent Jaime Zapata was killed in the incident, and fellow agent Victor Avila was wounded.
A funeral for Zapata was held Tuesday, where top U.S. officials spoke and vowed justice for his killers.
According to U.S. Rep. Michael McCaul, R-Texas, who said he was briefed by immigration authorities, the pair had been traveling to Mexico City when two vehicles bracketed them and ran them off the road.
Despite the fact that the two agents identified themselves as diplomats, people believed to belong to the Zetas drug cartel opened fire.
It was the first time in 25 years that a U.S. law enforcement agent was killed while on duty in Mexico.

They probably just did this to "calm" the situation down and make it look like they are taking control of the situation.

Another good episode of Calderon's "NOVELA". The man can't control his own government much less the crime plague. What will he do next? He should broadcast the trial...So we can all get a good look at the workings of the Mexican Judicial System and get some good laughs.

ReplyDeleteIt's not as simple as it sounds. Convoys only travel in areas that are "cleared" as secure by lookouts "halcones". When they run into the military they are usually killed but it doesn't happen too often. Al-queida also travels in convoys in u.s controlled areas of afganistan, some slip through, its just the way it is.
it is pretty clear in the official press release they announce having in custody the person likely/probable responsible for the death of ICE agent of the US...how they going to dance around this? I saw the tweet from Calderon also...Jeeze this is so Mexico...no one ever on the same damn page.

He probably was manning the roadblock. You think Mamito is gonna be out there manning roadblocks? Isn't he in charge of the new Zeta training "academy", and the state of Coahuila or is that all 42 now? He may have given the order or the ok to shoot the ICE agents but I doubt he was even in the same estado. Even if it was an "accident" I hope authorities do not relent. I hope they still hold the organization culpable as a whole and aggressively pursue Mamito and Z-40 and Lazca and all those other scumbags. The blame does not end with some ugly ass SLP cell leader and his half-retarded gang of idiots. Those dumbasses are cannon fodder for Zeta leadership, totally expendable. ReplyDeleteCouch commando says-I know they can't catch every one in a day, and yes the dto's have some gear allowing them to slide past the "radar" but 30 or even 10 vehicles of the four door truck type traveling together should be fairly visible from miles away when airborne. But your point is taken, maybe they do need missle strikes down there- done by mexican aircraft of course. As for my computer games, they don't get played much anymore, all the action I need is in my backyard.
