A brave pre-school teacher calmed her young students fears by creating a sing along while five men were executed in a shoot out near the school.According to El Norte, five men were executed by a group of armed men traveling in several pick ups.
The incident took place in pirate taxi hub in La Estanzuela, just south of Monterrey. Initial reports state the place was known to be a point of sale for drugs.
It has been reported one of the deceased has been identified by his wife and declared an innocent victim of the crime, the other four were taxi drivers who also served as "halcones" for organized crime.

That tape was awesome. That teacher did a great job keeping those kids from panicking.
ReplyDeleteOne of the stories I don't even like reading, picturing little kids singing, while brutal violence is unfolding yards away is pretty heavy and disheartening. I like, as much as anyone to comment and discuss the logistics and players in the shootouts and killings, but this the other part, regardless of whether CDG did this, or Zeta, or whatever, little children were scared for their lives because of this, and that is heartbreaking, or whatever appropriate description.
ReplyDeleteWhat a shame. Thank God those children were not hit. Are they too young to perceive the underlying fear and danger hovering over them like a fog? Or will those inescapable circumstances manifest themselves into some kind of social damage in the future?

ReplyDeleteThis was hard for me to stomach... it's really sad to see the violence so bad that it's close to a school. I guess I should be happy that nobody in the school died. Still, I wonder about the psychological effects on everybody...

It was never said that this is happening all over Mexico, the post states it happened in Southern Monterrey near a pre-school that just happened to be near a point of sale/pirate taxi hub/halcon hang out.
I have no intention of creating a "badder image" of Mexico. As for you feeling insulted, you SHOULD be insulted by the fact that these children had to live such an experience and that there was a well known point of sale/pirate taxi hub/and halcon hangout near their school, NOT by the fact that it was reported.

ReplyDeleteYes, this kind of thing is hard for me to stomach. It saddens me that people have to live in fear for their lives, especially innocent people that have done nothing wrong. I commend the teacher for calming the kids, though. And I'm happy to know that they turned out OK.
Maybe my sensitivity can be attributed to the fact that I don't live anywhere near Mexico (I live in the northwest part of the US), and therefore I don't have to live in fear of my life -- it's not something I ever think about on a daily basis. (Which, by the way, I am increasingly thankful for.) So, when I hear of things like this, it freaks me out because I'm not used to it at all.
And if you thought my reaction here was extreme, you should have seen how I reacted the first time a friend of mine who lives in Monterrey told me, many months ago, about the violence -- I went completely nuts and it took me about a day to get over it.

Seriously? This kind of violence happens every day? Now I feel even worse, and I hope that the violence ends one day... although I'm not surprised too much, since I noticed that El Universal has news about crimes in Monterrey that Borderland Beat doesn't (sí, sé un poco español, pero no lo puedo hablar perfectamente).
That teacher is a hero.

Please don't take this as an insult or showing a Bad image of Mexico because in despite of what was occurring outside the School, I was very impressed by the bravery the Teacher showed in keeping her Students, I just wish we had Teachers her like this in the USA.

ReplyDeleteThings like this have happened in the U.S.. However, people who live in the area say this is normal? Aren't you ashamed that these children are being subjected to this and it is a "normal everyday" occurrence? Rather than worry about what is being reported on this site why do you not do something about this?
As for the teacher, I have the absolute highest respect for her. You are blessed that she is with those children. She, and the children, deserve so much better.

Stop saying this makes mexico look worse because it is bad, its horrible., Im from cilla de santiago do you have any idea how it is here? trust me its worse than monterrey so calm your self down. Nuevo leon and tamaulipas is infested with rats, theres killings everyday, kidnappings, extortions, everything so please dont say this makes mexico look bad.
