Mexican Army Finds 'Monsters' in Ciudad Camargo

Photos: SEDENA

Heavily armored vehicles — similar in design to so-called "Monsters" used by the Zetas cartel in firefights against the Mexican military and the Gulf Cartel — were seized Saturday, June 4, 2011, by the Mexican Army in Ciudad Camargo, across the border from Rio Grande City. The military announced the results of the warehouse raid in a news release Sunday, June 5, 2011

The Monitor

The Mexican Army announced Sunday night the results of a raid at a warehouse that was being used as a makeshift machine shop by cartel members to build armored assault vehicles.

The raid took place Saturday in the Prolongación Gonzalez area in the city of Camargo, across from Rio Grande City, during a routine patrol where a military convoy came across the warehouse, according to a news release from the Mexican Army.

As a result of the raid, the Mexican military seized two dump trucks that had been heavily armored and modified to carry a squad of gunmen. The two trucks were painted black.

The military also seized two other dump trucks, 23 tractor-trailers, four backhoes, two trailers, seven load-bearing attachments for trailers, seven towing platforms, one tractor and some ammunition and magazines.

The military didn’t report any confrontations or arrests.

The military didn’t state which criminal organization the heavily armored trucks belonged to, but in other parts of Mexico, armed forces have found similar designs belonging to the Zetas, who typically call the vehicles “Monsters.”

The Monsters have been used by the Zetas in a number of firefights — both against their rivals, the Gulf Cartel, and the Mexican military. The heavily armored vehicles vary in design, ranging from modified Ford F-350’s to large tractor-trailers — all armored in makeshift shops and painted black.

In one firefight last year, in rural northern Tamaulipas, the Gulf Cartel defeated a squad of Zetas who were using Monsters and — after the fight — spray-painted insults on them. Those Monsters were later found by authorities.

  11. Damn, those dump truck ones are actually quite clever, seems like they are progressing.

Does anyone know how do they transport these bigger models to where they want? I dont quite think you would want to drive one for longer distances and these larger ones probably dont fit in a trailer either.

  13. 3 weeks ago one of these "MONSTERS" was found in Florencia de Benito Juarez,Zacatecas after a gun battle between Zetas and United Cartels. My question is,how do they manage to transfer these armored trucks from Tamaulipas to Central Mexico without getting the attention ?

  14. BBC is reporting that these vehicles belong to the CDG. It was also reported that two Gulf members who where guarding the warehouse were killed in the initial confrontation.

  20. Oops! There goes the chances for a Zeta victory at the annual soap box derby event. After having gotten the design for their vehicles at Fort Benning, Georgia, the Zetas had high hopes they could win the big event.

  21. @ 9.10

I think you meant to say Fort Caracas, Venezuela.

Otra cosa, Z-1 (Arturo Guzmán Decena) and his original cohorts did come from the MEXICAN government. Z-1 was actually his MEXICAN government radio code. If we made a mistake, it was training people in the MEXICAN government. It turns out that they can not be trusted.

  22. Hey gang, the information I would like to know is if the cartels have M 242 Bushmaster Autocannons? The reason why, is because the linked ammunition on the tailgate of this narco tank in the video, has 25mm linked cannon ammo on it? If the cartels have autocannons, this is a significant weapon evolution in the cartel arms race. So if you guys are wanting to get some good scoop, find this information out from your sources if the police or military found this gun or similar in cartel possession.

  24. Brito, you should stop spreading your prejudices against the developmentally disabled community online... Isn't it enough that you spread your disdain for Latinos online here at BB without targeting 'Tards', too? Next I know, you'll be attacking the G&L community in your comments about Mexico and the drug war there, also! Control yourself, Dude.

'i think they are a little more advanced than this at fort benning there T'ardent'

Perhaps?, but they keep rewriting their manuals on these things, Brito. And switching their names. And relocating and reinventing themselves. Perhaps all this shuffling had a negative effect on their Pentagon training of the Zeta Brigade, Mexico military? They 'trained' the Colombians, too, but all the Colombians could really seem to do was operate chain saws on their POWs. And sell drugs.

  27. Let`s have a contest!! The rules are simple. Find a post, where Ardent, or you can go back to when he was Ernest1, where he didn`t blame whatever happened on the United States of America. Find that, and you`ll get the Borderland Beat trophy of excellence in finding the impossible. You`ve actually have lost all or any credibility you did have with your Anti-USA Rhetoric on every post you make. This post was about finding a vehicle that was extremely crudely designed and constructed, that anyone that is fightint a "war" could think would be a necessary thing, and yet you turn it into an American thing. The very wars and soldiers you are against is what allows you to spew your Anti-USA filth on blogs and sites like these. and don`t come on here saying your NOT anti-Soldier. You are, your writings tell the tales. You may say your pro-Soldier, but that is just to ease your own mind and conscious, as well as to try for the oh so slight flicker of decency you feel you need to throw out there. Sorry Ardent, your not a nice person. Anyone that carries around that much animosity and anger and hatred of a country that allows him to earn a good living, spew filth freely as you do,is full of rage, hate and anger towards alot of things other than just a country. I pray the day never comes that I read about someone named Ernest going on a shooting rampage somewhere. So c`mon back with your hateful, disparaging comments about how I didn`t say WHY I disagree with you, as you do anytime someone cuts you down. If you`ll read this post, it states clearly why I don`t like you. You can spin it anyway you want, A fellow that has to make EVERY paragraph he types ANTI-USA, even if the situation doesn`t have a darn thing to do with the US, is a hateful being. What an existence. It must be pure torture living in a country that you despise, but not being despised in return by that country, cause it allows you to do as you please.

  29. Lito brito has the best posts on here. And i dont see anything anti-latino in them. Anti-mexico maybe, but only because mexico is so fucked up, they did it to themselves. If this was happening in France he'd be telling us to fry those mother fuckers too. And I agree with him. Bullet in the head is the only solution at this point, too late for negotiating.
