Mexico's Ministry of National Defense (Sedena) has announced the seizure of $15,350,000 U.S. currency (more than 125 million pesos), 6 kilograms of cocaine and 4 weapons from a home in Tijuana, Baja California.
In a press conference, Sedena spokesman General Ricardo Trevilla Trejo announced the seizure occurred in the colonia Cumbres de Juárez and that the money, drugs and weapons belonged to the Sinaloa cartel headed by Joaquin "el Chapo" Guzman.
No arrests were mentioned in the press conference.
The seizure was the latest action in the Army's ongoing Operation Zorro, a regional counternarcotics offensive in Baja California and Baja California Sur.
This is the second largest cash seizure by Mexico's Army in its fight against the drug cartels. The Army's largest cash seizure, more than $26 million (U.S.), occurred in September 2008 in Culiacan, Sinaloa.
The Army was also active in Tijuana over the weekend with the seizure of 118 kilograms of cocaine and the arrest of one individual this past Sunday in the Sonora neighborhood.
The cocaine seized also belonged to the Sinaloa cartel, according to Sedena.
According to Sedena analysts, the Sinaloa cartel now dominates the entire Baja California peninsula.
Credit for this seizure and arrest was given to an anonymous tip called in to a Sedena citizen's hotline.
Four other persons were arrested over the weekend by Army troops in Tijuana. At the time of their arrest the individuals had 14 weapons, 10 kilograms of mariguana and 458 grams of crystal meth in their possession.

Great, now the citizen that tipped of the home is going to end up dead. Snitching on the narcos in Mexico is like a death sentence. I hope it doesn't happen but idealy someone is pissed they lost this hard cash already smuggled in.

I think the Sinaloans are moving more and bigger shipments across the border, and the CAF people are moving less and smaller work, that's why you see the cds losing more.

ReplyDeleteHighly unlikely that it was a common citizen that tipped them off. CAF is still very active in Tijuana and the word on the street is that they still control TJ. Only smarter than before and under the radar. Chapo IS moving weight through TJ but has been taking heavy losses lately. Maybe he doesn't want to pay plaza anymore? Maybe another war coming? Who knows...

ReplyDeleteOr the military probably caught a key member of a cartel and that seized money was a pay off to let'em go, since they have to present something to the media for all their hard work, lol. That was probably a quarter of the money, if they paid for the release of a key member or after all the generals take a cut. Just imagine the money they really seized, but they just report $15 million.

Apparently, from what I understand, last week's tunnel and drugs were given to El Inge by Sinaloa in order to keep the peace. I mean, kinda makes sense...I guess.
