At least four suspected gunmen and a soldier died in a shootout in Nuevo Laredo,
a border city in the northeastern Mexican state of Tamaulipas, the Defense
Secretariat said.
An army patrol was attacked Friday on a street in Nuevo Laredo, located across the Rio Grande from Laredo, Texas, the secretariat said.
Gunmen traveling in six vehicles opened fire on the soldiers, who returned fire.
Five soldiers wounded in the shootout were taken to a hospital in the border city, the secretariat said.
Soldiers seized five assault rifles, 50 ammunition clips, 525 rounds of ammunition and a vehicle.
It all started around 3:50 p.m Friday in the Colonia Viveros, a neighborhood nestled along the banks of the Rio Grande River.
Nuevo Laredo residents used the #NuevoLaredo hashtag of the social media network Twitter to report gunfire, detonations and a military helicopter in the sky.
Residents reported that the helicopter was firing its guns into unknown targets below.
The army is carrying out “Operation Northeast” in Tamaulipas, Nuevo Leon, Coahuila and San Luis Potosi states in an effort to weaken the drug cartels that operate in the region.

DeleteI have been reading for a few days that the Zetas are making a violent push for Reynosa and Matamoros, shootouts all over those towns, and on the highway between the two cities as well as on the highway between Nuevo Laredo and Reynosa.

On the Spanish blogs people who claimed to be there said there were about 15 marines wounded and a few death zetas, they also said that several other zetas dropped their weapons ran and got lost among civilians.

Very sorry about the Marinas killed ,but I hope that the Marines did in fact attack and kill,Zs CDG or whatever criminals were targeted. Say what you want these operations need to occur every day(with no govt casualtys). The media claims ALL actions against Criminal elements in Mexico are failures and need to be stopped?? ReplyDeleteI did a research on what you said about 13 marines killed on several Spanish blogs and nothing comes up, a few people claimed to be there and they mention a few dead zetas, other zetas dropped their weapons and ran to hide among the population one soldier killed and about 15 wounded.
You exaggerate way to much, if what you said is truth about more than one Marine being killed, then more than one person saw it, so far you are the only one who has said that.

ReplyDeleteI'm sorry to say for all you people who hate the zetas they will win at the end. The reason being that there leaders may not be nice people but Z-3 and Z-40 are very disciplined and are well trained in counterinsurgency while the leaders of the other cartels are nothing but ranchers and farmers. The elections are coming up in Mexico and if they don't get killed or captured then Mexico will see Z-3 and Z-40's candidate in the Mexican white house and he will give orders to the military to take down the Sinaloa cartel.
