Gunmen Kill Police Supervisor in Ciudad Juarez

A municipal police supervisor in Ciudad Juarez, a border city in northern Mexico, was murdered by gunmen while driving to work, a police spokesman said.

The victim, who unofficial reports identified as Fabian Ramirez, was driving to work with another police officer Saturday morning in his private automobile when the attack occurred.

The officers were cut off by another automobile and several men opened fire on them, police spokesman Adrian Sanchez said.

The two officers were taken to a hospital, but the supervisor died shortly after arrival and his companion is listed in serious condition, Sanchez said.

Three municipal police officers have been killed in Ciudad Juarez, located across the Rio Grande from El Paso, Texas, since the start of this month by suspected drug traffickers.

Gunmen riding in SUVs attacked a group of police officers on Jan. 10, killing supervisor Pablo Soria and wounding five other officers.

Ciudad Juarez has been plagued by drug-related violence for years.

The Juarez cartel has been battling the rival Sinaloa cartel for control of smuggling routes from Ciudad Juarez into the United States.

The border city, which topped the list of the world’s deadliest cities for three consecutive years, dropped to second last year with 148 homicides for every 100,000 residents.

The murder rate took off in the border city of 1.5 million people in 2007, when 310 people were killed, then it more than tripled to 1,607 in 2008, according to Chihuahua Attorney General’s Office figures, with the number of killings climbing to 2,754 in 2009.

More than 3,100 people were murdered in the border city in 2010, making it the worst year since the cartel turf war sent the homicide rate skyrocketing in 2008.

About 2,000 people were murdered in Juarez in 2011.

The government said earlier this month that 12,903 people were killed in drug-related violence between January and September 2011 in Mexico, an increase of 11 percent from the same period in the prior year.

The drug war death toll stood at 47,515 from December 2006 to Sept. 30.

The murder total has grown every year of President Felipe Calderon’s military offensive against the well-funded, heavily armed drug cartels.

Unofficial tallies published in December by independent daily La Jornada put the death toll from Mexico’s drug war at more than 50,000.

  2. "The Juarez Cartel has been battleling the rival Sinaloa Cartel for control of smuggling routes from Ciudad Juarez into the United States"

Small errors like these could really confuse the viewers of your site.

In reality the Sinaloa Cartel is battleling the local Juarez Cartel for control of smuggling routes from Ciudad Juarez into the United States.

Why does this matter??? Whats the difference?? Its a huge difference actually. The Juarez Cartel or the Carillo Fuentes family has had control of Ciudad Juarez for decades. How long will it take Chapo and his Sinaloa Cartel to take control of Ciudad Juarez?? In my opinion close to decades if he ever is able to one day beat his ex bosses, the CARILLO FUENTES family.

    1. Are you blind or what? When has the juarez cartel have everything under control? When they were killing (mujeres de juarez) or when? If carillo was a boss that had anything under control he would of had portected the people of juarez and the people would of had his back. They are like the zetas no respect

    2. You should look at the history of the Juarez Cartel.El Chapo, El Mayo, and El Azul were before members of the Juarez Cartel and worked for the Carillo Fuentes,of course until Chapo betrayed them and killed Rodolfo Carillo Fuentes..

Why are you so sure that the Juarez Cartel killed those girls in Cd Juarez?? Where you there when they did it or what??.How do you know its not Chapos sicarios to heat up the plaza, and allow other goverment forces to arrive and help out???As long as Vicente Carillo Fuentes is alive Chapo will continue to lose on his attemps to take over.

Its been proven its been what 5,6 years and El Chapo still cant take Ciudad Juarez.

Cartel de Juarez is a different story, even in Durango, where most of the state is controlled by the Sinaloa Cartel, the Juarez Cartel hasnt lost there plazas. You should get more informed.

You.seriously think Chapo is the top boss in ciudad Juarez?? Haa

    4. What plazas in durango do they control becouse i dont know of one. Alot of cdj people switched to zetas for protection once the war started with el chapo and mayo. CDJ has lost influence and chapos people in durango have taken advantage that parral is cds and have gotten stronger.

  5. Someone is seriously confused. Yes, the Carrillo Fuentes are from Sinaloa and CDS has payed plaza to the Juarez boys before, and they probably are now, but Guzman and Zambada NEVER were beholden to the Carrillo Fuentes and certainly didn't work for them. Paying plaza isn't working for the suckers who no longer have the connects to even be called a cartel.

    1. When Amado Carillo Fuentes was around Chapo and Mayo knew better than to disobey.Amado Carillo is said to have been worth around 25 billion,Chapo is said to be worth 1 billion, see the difference?Arturo Beltran Leyva started off working as a gunmen for Carillo Fuentes later as his bodyguard and later as one of his top drug traffickers until Amado died. The Carillo Fuentes have buisnesses all over the world,Chapo is Never gunna take Ciudad Juarez.

Chapo needs to learn from El Mayo.El Mayo decided to make an agreement in Tijuana with the Arellano Felix,he still has to pay money to them, but is slowly bringing alot of his people in.Chapo wanted Ciudad Juarez and threw and all out offensive and till this day hasnt been able to take over,El Mayo hasnt either but his approach was smarter

    2. Maybe its because el chapo knows that with cartel de juarez and zetas are the worst people to work with. Maybe the arellanos would like to make money and not get into war.

  7. There is to much bad blood between the cartels, Calderon is not the one to blame, he is fighting the Mexican corruption and the Cartels. He is the only president who has done that.

  8. I've read that multiple sources thought Vicente Carrillo would make a bad leader, El Mayo, El Chapo, people from his own crew, Arturo Beltran.

I think Vicente is whom 'El Sicario' refers to as a 'A man so bloodthirsty he will kill anyone, women, children, babies, his own family'.

  11. The slain officer was driving to work with his wife when he was attacked, she was not hurt.
this was the 3rd Juarez municipal police officer killed so far this year. 37 Juarez municipal officers were killed last year, that doesn't include Chihuahua state officers, state ministerial officers (their equivalent of CSI officers) and Federal police officers.

  13. The 3 Sinaloances: Miguel Gallardo, Don Neto Fonseca, and Caro Quintero. These people were the godfathers of the Guadalajara Cartel. When Camarena (d.e.a. agent)got killed, all of this godfathers got arrested.Felix gallardos people took the Tijuana plaza (Arrellano-Felix), Don Neto's newphew took the Juarez plaza(Carrillo-fuentes,and Caro quinteros brother took the Sonora plaza.Back then there were only 2 big cartels: The Blood alliance and the Gulf. Now who know how many independant cells exists.

  14. @January 24, 2012 10:37 AM And you are saying this exactly why? You will think you do care for you people in 2010 there were 14,748 murders and here are the overdose deaths by year from 2000 to 2010

Annual Causes of Death in the United States

"Drug Usage - Data" data concerning the causes of death as they related to drugs and the War on Drugs.

  15. January 24, 2012 1:47 PM As far as I am concerned all of the drug overdose deaths are suicides. You want to kill yourself with drugs or jumping off a bridge - that's your right. The drug war is part and parcel of the "nanny state" - we're Americans, we can look out for ourselves without the dammed stinking corrupt greedy government shoving their snouts in everyone's business. GO TO HELL, WASHINGTON.

  16. January 24, 2012 1:47 PM You are fucking crazy, there is no way that 82,724 people will overdose in the U.S. we Americans are the smartest people in the world, we are very well educated, we know better then that. Something like this can only happened in a 3rd world country like Mexico.

  17. CHAPO Runs Juarez Guys, I live here and can't say how or what but yeah he hasn't totally eliminated the CDJ but does still run Juarez.. I compare it to when the US invaded Iraq but could never truly have it under control

  18. 5:48 AM I bet the Barrio Aztecas and La Linea would argue that very easily. There is a lot of very big money old players with the Juarez Cartel that are just waiting for the PRI to take office. They are very patient businessmen and will never let there plaza go to a southern group. That is a fact. If you live there, you should know that CDJ runs deep in the blood of 40% of the people living there.
