Tuesday morning Jesús Ávila Navarro, an officer with the Policia Nayarit, was gunned down outside of a hardware store in the Jardines del Valle section of Tepic, Nayarit in what may be the opening of a counteroffensive by organized crime aimed at blunting the anti crime drive undertaken by Governor Roberto Sandoval who took office last September.
Assistant State Attorney General Edgar Veytia, who is spearheading the state's anti crime drive, announced to the press that there will be no turning back in the fight against organized crime and that he will fulfill his promise to return security to the people of Nayarit.
Veytia directs the state's new elite anti organized crime police unit, the Policia Nayarit.
The execution of Ávila Navarro comes after the appearance of banners this past Sunday that threatened Veytia and the Policia Nayarit. The banners, hung by a local gang "Los Pelochos" that is affiliated with the Sinaloa cartel, accused the authorities of allying with Los Zetas. Los Zetas and Beltran Leyva loyalists are fighting the Sinaloa cartel for control of the Nayarit Plaza.
There were reports of convoys of armed men in several areas of Tepic Sunday night.
To the general population: abstain from being on the streets unless necessary. We will begin a sweep against Los Zetas, beginning with Beytia and his escorts the Policia Nayarit who are under the command of Los Zetas here in Nayarit.

Policia Nayarit operations in December against Los Pelochos netted more than 100 arrests of retail drug dealers, car thieves and kidnappers.
There are rumors that El Chapo guzman has sent a nephew of the late Ignacio "Nacho" Coronel, José Ángel Carrasco Coronel "El Changel", to direct operations against the authorities in Nayarit.
On Monday the Policia Nayarit presented four sicarios that were arrested over the weekend in the ejido Platanitos, located in the municipality of Tepic.
The men were identified as Alfonso Mariscal Razo "el Ponchillo", age 22; José Arturo Cruz Hernández “el Arturin”, age 29; Noe Mariscal Razo, age 20; and Hilario Ruelas Celis, age 21.
The men are accused of the murders of several people found in clandestine grave sites in Platanitos. According to the authorities one of the men, Alfonso Mariscal, was involved in other murders including the ambushes in Ruiz, Nayarit in May 2011 that resulted in the deaths of 29 gunmen, the murder of a family of four including a 2 year old child in El Rincon in November 2011 and the murder and decapitation of a woman in Venustiano Carranza in November 2011.
On Monday the Mexican Army announced the seizure of weapons and vehicles in the municipality of Ixtlan del Rio, Nayarit.
A total of 14 rifles and automatic weapons, 5 handguns, 2 grenade launchers, tactical equipment, 2,573 rounds of ammunition and 3 vehicles, one of which was armored, were secured.
No arrests were announced by the Army.

You have no idea how things work in Mexico, if los valencia or La Familia really had beef and had the location of Coronel, do you really think they would just turn him in, no, they would have attacked. Merking him in a location like that would have been very simple.
