"NO MORE WEAPONS"

Today President Felipe Calderon inaugurated a sign in English  with the plea "No More Weapons!" directed to the United States on the border between both nations in Ciudad Juarez.

The sign, forged from the metal of confiscated weapons, will greet traffic on the southern end of the Americas International bridge that connects Juarez with El Paso, Texas.

Flanked by members of his national security team, the mayor of Juarez and the Governor of Chihuahua, Calderon launched a new demand that the United States do everything in its power to end the trafficking of arms into Mexico.

In his speech the President stated that Mexico had done everything possible to halt the vortex of violence that is hammering the country and delivered a "new and respectful call to action to the U.S. government, congress and society" to contribute to this effort.

Calderon insisted that weapons from the U.S. empower criminal organizations who kill not only rivals but also police officers and innocent civilians. He added that many of the weapons sold in the U.S. marketplace are not bought by responsible citizens who will use the weapons correctly.

"We need your help to stop this violence," said Calderon.

"The best way you can help to reduce the violence in Mexico is with a law that was previously in effect and that will stop this inhumane trafficking of arms into Mexico. No More Weapons!," added the President, possibly alluding to the expired assault weapons ban.

  6. The fast and the furious was never gonna bring down any big dogs in Mexico. The real plan by the Obama administration was to get gun bans in America. Come on lets give weapons to the people your fighting oh thats right got to make things worse for more support from the sheeple that believe all the bs. Its not like the cartels can't get weapons in Africa or Russia or anywhere else. Ground zero is the border yet the government spends all the funding busting pot heads in the suburbs of America.

I like Calderons attempt to reform Mexico,BUT this Bull Shit about the USA being responsible for the Barrio,Ghetto mentality of Mexico is what you can expect. Truth is if Mexico was not a paranoid half baked State allowing the responsible public to be armed would do wonders, WHY DON'T THEY REALIZE THIS??

  16. I hope that you, my brothers and sisters in mexico don't buy this "no more weapons" filth. You should absolutely HATE your government for saying that. Your government has turned you into unarmed pussies afraid of your own shadows. They have outlawed drugs knowing that it would result in powerful drug cartels running mexico. What is happening now in mexico has happened in other parts of the world throughout history. It is nothing new. We are seeing history repeating itself in mexico.

YOU MEXICAN MEN HAVE NO OTHER CHOICE!!! YOU MUST ARM YOURSELVES. YOU MUST FIGHT THE CARTEL FILTH. YOU'RE CHILDREN ARE FLEEING FROM YOUR COUNTRY BECAUSE YOU MEN WON'T FIGHT THE CARTEL FILTH. DO YOU UNDERSTAND???

Calderon - protect your own country. Stop being a puppet of the Obama Administration. Obama and his appointees funneled weapons to the cartels specifically to increase the murder rate in your country. They succeeded. And you Mr. Calderon have not filed international war crimes charges? You have not filed a complaint in the International courts at all? You have not asked for the extradition of the conspirators so they can face trial in Mexico? No, you build a sign. You make a speech. You are a puppet of the Obama Administration as it murders your people.

  24. Why do Americans need guns at all, ok hand guns to protect yourself but assault rifles etc... Sure the situation on Mexico is fked up big time but the way the USA is too doesn't help I.e. gun laws, gun crazy nation & a huge drug problem (addicts) this isn't helping Mexico. And at the same time reading stories saying that the army (mex) are taking bribes not to intercept certain cartels shipments doesn't help either all these ppl that sell drugs from whatever cartel are shit this is a reason Mexico is in the shit too no proper police no law, it's not a sport where u choose a team ppl realise this

  25. Mexican politicians are a bunch of incapable morons who can't think for themselves. None of his own party members are capable of questioning what Calderon does, therefore he always thinks he's right, such as lifting the veil off a goofy banner proclaiming no more weapons. Calderon has focused too much on this Fast & Furious operation to take heat and pressure from the real problems that plague Mexico. Calderon shift your attention to real matters and start by fixing your educational system, add more resources to schools, build state of the art state universities, give more scholarships, hire exceptional teachers who get paid a decent wage. Don't waste resources on publicity stunts. As an American of Mexican heritage I'm appalled by his actions. I'm concerned about Mexico as I have relatives down there and enjoy visiting. I'm American first, this country has giving me everything I have, but I hope Mexico one day can enjoy all the privileges we have. Asian countries for decades have hired American English teachers, ie China, why hasn't Mexico done the same? For crying out loud were neighbors! Ignoring education is ignoring your people and Calderon by under-funding education has ignored education.

Mexico's problems are deep rooted, and this meaningless display by Calderon only demonstrates his constant attempt to pass the blame for his administrations short-comings onto his neighbors to the North.

If u fix the mexican economy you would have less people joining cartels and doing illicit business!!!!

  30. Then Mexico should protect its own borders and inspect who in coming in.

    ReplyDelete
  31. @February 17, 2012 8:42 AM: Because it's our RIGHT to own guns. The constitution does not say, "You have the right to bear arms...if it's a handgun, if the barrel is longer than x amount of inches, if it's not an assault rifle, etc." It says we have the right to bear arms, period (well, obviously it says more than that but that's the gist of it.)

Also, 90%+ of crimes in the US are committed with easily concealable HANDGUNS. Not "assault" rifles (I put that in quotes because that's an anti-gunner term meant to try and demonize long-rifles), virtually no murders are committed here in the USA using long rifles. You can't just walk around the streets with an AR-15 concealed that easily. But you could walk around with 6 pistols on your body and people would have no clue.

Also, it's ridiculous that people think the MAJORITY of weapons are coming from the United States. Look at Mexico's neighbors to the South...plenty of South American countries can provide the weapons as well.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Tanto hay traficantes de drogas como de armas apoco nadien sabe eso????? o se hacen pendejos...

    ReplyDelete
  33. If the US stopped all flow of guns into Mexico, the violence would remain the same. They'd get the guns elsewhere...Israel, Venezuela, Russia to name a few and don't forget many of the guns committing murder are held by the same government workers trusted to prevent and resolve criminal activity. I'm sick of the US blame game. While I think it's disgusting how the ATF allowed guns to flow, I won't sit here and accept blame for Mexico's fucked up society and problems.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Alright I'm gonna give a bit of history and facts here and see if anyone who wants to ban guns learn anything. The clinton assualt weapons ban didn't ban "assault weapons". They castrated them if you will. They didn't have flash hiders, bayonet lugs, more than ten round mags, or folding/telescoping stocks. They are semi-automatic however. Now keep in mind they didn't lower crime like how clinton said they would. Now it is illegal and there is a law that says you can't make/convert a semi-auto rifle into a machine gun. Yet people who buy them for the cartels do. And again it's against the law, they shouldn't be doing it but they still do. It's against the law to transport a firearm through the border, yet people still do and they're not suppose to. Do you really think that another "assault weapons ban" is really gonna stop people from acquiring guns from anywhere else? In other words they would break the law just like everyone who breaks the law about transporting them across the border. How about instead of asking us American citizens to lose our 2nd amendment right, how about you make a "Mexican border patrol" and secure your border and prevent them from getting all the way across? Do you really have that much faith in more laws? Do you really think criminals will follow them?

  35. Hey Mexico, how about no more f*cking drugs!!!

  36. So many of the weapons they show are Military / Government weapons you don't pick up at the local gun stores or shows.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Mexico needs to legalize guns and regulate it. Anytime you outlaw something like this, it always goes underground to the black market. When will our leaders on both sides of the border realize this? America also needs to legalize drugs and regulate it. The answers to all the problems are so simple and yet our lame brained leaders cant seem to wrap their fucking minds around this. Ending prohibition will not end the cartels overnight, but it will take away a big chunk of the huge amounts of profit they make because of inflated black market prices. I am so sick of this damn drug war and the innocents being murdered and the governments not having the balls to do the right thing of ending the damn drug war! This gringo has had enough!

  39. @February 17, 2012 12:23 PM: <---What this person said is the truth. Further, the assault weapons "ban" didn't apply to "assault" rifles manufactured BEFORE the ban went into effect. So, if you owned those types of weapons, you could still keep them, you did not have to change them to non-detachable 10 round magazines, etc. You could even later sell your weapon if you so pleased. It just said no weapons manufactured AFTER that date could be sold or bought within the United States.

I'm a fairly left-leaning Democrat (not THAT far left though) and the issue of guns is one of the only things I thoroughly disagree with. But to me, to go over to the Republican side because of their gun stance when they are so twisted on everything else is not a viable option to me.

Did it not occur to him that any redneck across the stream will be hanging their Gringo Mantas with "No More Illegals" nombre que mamadas.
He could have given those weapons to law abiding citizens instead of destroying them
But Calderon being the Pendejo Conservative that he is missed that opportunity.
Legalize guns and Drugs, think of the potential.
Shorty term all hell breaks loose, but think of the revenue stream.

  41. "Hey Mexico, how about no more f*cking drugs!!!"
HEY dumba**, how about you quit asking and begging for drugs, then maybe the cartels will stop bringing them. I hate how the US acts like the victim here when it is them demanding huge amounts of drugs.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I don't know why Mexico does'nt just manufacture their own guns and legalize the guns so they can at least make profits off the guns and then the citizens can protect themselves too. Then they won't have to worry about guns being smuggled into their country.

    ReplyDelete
  43. @ajulio: I agree, I don't understand why the citizens haven't pushed more for this with the violence going on around them. Not to go vigilante with it since they would lose really (normal citizens have to work -- in that downtime they are vulnerable), but I know I would feel a lot safer with an AR-15 and guns throughout the house if I had the kind of violence going on around me like Mexico has.

  48. @February 17, 2012 10:40 PM: Every state in the country has people such as you describe. Sure, California may have more of them because: 1) Most people who are not hardcore Republicans would like to live in California if they could (obviously not ALL people, but most people I know would move here if they could get a good paying job, etc.); 2) California is a very liberal state and people are far more socially conscious here and willing to give up their tax dollars to support programs to help those who are less fortunate or are immigrants.

But as far as your comment about it becoming another Mexico, you are way off my friend. The GSP (Gross State Product) of California is $1.9 TRILLION a year, by far the largest in the United States. California's GDP is larger than all but 8 COUNTRIES in the world and it's a single STATE within a country.

There are also over 668,000 people in this state who are worth at least $1 million dollars or more. People from all over the world and United States want to come here to visit and live. Let's not forget all the celebrities who live here, all the major technology companies in Silicon Valley (Google, Apple, Cisco, Hewlett-Packard, Intel, eBay, etc.), and the film industry was created here and is thriving here.

Does not sound much like Mexico to me...

    ReplyDelete
  49. Do your research. Mexico has massive domestic drug use. Calderon uses the US as a scapegoat to hide the fact that he is a failure. Mexico is an Un-Governable Territory and has been for a long time.
Guns are a way of life in America. Why does Mexico not allow it's citizens to own firearms? Why do the Mexican people not fight for their right to own firearms? Is it because you all are lazy? Or that you have no balls?

    ReplyDelete
  50. OK, Let me get this right. Mexico wants the US to ban weapons so that no-one in The US can protect themselves from the wave of criminality emanating from Mexico.

  52. Kudos Gerardo! - Fine journalism.

The US government sends multiple millions of dollars of arms and sophisticagted electronic gear to the Mexican government which channel the stuff to the Cartels.

That's where the vast majority of automatic weapons come from.

It's window dressing for the "war on drugs!"

So when they say "No more weapons" does that include slegehammers, chain saws, rocks and knifes too?

I know there's some Home Depots in Juarez and Monterrey. I just hope we haven't been supplying Mexico with these tools.

The sand and gravel yards also need to stop sending rocks to Mexico, and SMart and Soriana need to start selling only flimsy platic knifes (Hecho en Mexico).

It's obvious that the Pavlov dogs can't handle any type of weapons, so quit sending weapons to Mexico !!

  64. The elite class (political class) in America have figured out a way to control people's lives, including whether or not they decide to own a firearm. What they're going to do is make it very expensive to own a firearm. You want to own a handgun in America? Fine, but you're going to need firearm insurance first and you know it's not going to be cheap. Think about how much your premiums would be if rates were based on the number and type of firearm you owned. Time to wake up, America.
