The Secret Air Force Along The Border

New Mexico's southern border with Mexico is one of the main fronts in the war against drug cartels. State and Federal authorities have said in recent years that drug cartels are still utilizing old fashioned techniques to get drugs across the border. But they are also increasing in utilizing new and innovative simple technologies to bring drugs into the United States.

At an alarming rate drug traffickers have developed a Secret Air Force of ultra light planes to fly drugs across the border often times going undetected as they fly below radar.

Authorities have said the low risk, high reward method of flying drugs across the border is something new, and potentially alarming to law enforcement as the success rate is so high. With billions of dollars being invested to build fences, and ground technology to slow the passage of illegal immigrants, and smuggling drug traffickers have adapted as well with more modern tunnels, submarines, now a secret air force of ultra light airplanes.

The pilots, some armed in the open cockpits, steer the horizontal control bar with one hand and pull a latch with the other, releasing 250-pound payloads that land with a thud, leaving only craters as evidence of another successful smuggling run.

As drug traffickers adapt so must law enforcement find new ways to combat these new methods in order to succeed in protecting the massive border between these two worlds.

  2. I'm a huge RC helicopter and airplane nut who flies planes that can carry up to 200 pounds+, and can fly them from GPS, have electric ones that are silent, can fly 30 minutes, do 150mph plus, and land where I tell them on my laptop. A month or so ago I was approached at a gas station (El Centro-Yuma area) when I had one of my planes hanging out the back of my truck. They were asking me "how much can it carry, how far will it go, how much gas does it hold.......?". Usually it's an old Canadian snowbird who wants to know about my planes, not three Mexicans in a tan GMC Yukon who are dressed up like goofy cowboys. Only thing is, our hobby polices itself and is aware of what could happen. When you start flying the large planes, it's a small world that everyone knows everyone. If anything sounds fishy, it usually gets reported (crazy muslim who wanted to fly RC jets into the pentagon last year as example). Goes to show that those jackasses can't ever think for themselves and ruin other peoples fun by turning peoples hobbies into nefarious schemes. Assholes. Still, nothing beats a well place tunnel.

  5. Thanks for topping by guys it may not be new but the increasing rate of their use is alarming. On top of that when you think about it it's probably pretty hard to track these as they can fly below radar and past ground censors.

  6. This is just one more example of what a TOTAL WASTE of money the $40 billion wall is.

Not to mention the fact that 800 miles of our 2,000 mile border with Mexico is along the Rio Grande, where they CAN'T build a wall.

  10. The US Government should bring our troops back from Iraq and Afghanistan and deploy them along the Mexican border. Any aircraft flying unauthorized into USA airspace should be dealt with as a hostile incursion and shot down. Same with ground vehicles coming into the USA thru any other than the authorized Ports Of Entry should be dealt with as a National Security breach and the persons driving these vehicles should be killed on the spot.

  15. LOL...yea, it's happen but not on a large scale like this article seems to point out! A payload of 250lbs, isn't shit...when a truck tractors are carrying tons into the USA on daily basis, nah the most effective way to move dope is still truck load with a hefty bribe!!!

Really? That easy..huh..what about the kidnapping for ransom, extortion of business', the large scale theft rings (like petroleum), etc..? Do us a favor...by all means read...but don't post ridiculous and simplistic solutions to complex problems! The legalization of drugs in the US isn't going to stop sicarios from be-heading and dismembering people!

  17. The problems are too deep and corrupt to find a cure. Right here in america our police are the most corrupt. The police have lost their morals and do it for a big paycheck instead of wanting to help people!

  18. The border is about 40 thou, strong do people have any clue how much money it takes to pay this guys to secure our borders it would be nice if we could pay them with an immigrant wage but no we pay them around the ten dollar and hour area so with that being said add that amount to the resources it takes like gas to run their vehicles and maintenance on what ever tool they use to combat the cartels we are talking big $$$$ and on top of that some people want to double are troops from 40 to 80 thousand its all crazy.
