Sixteen arrested: In San Antonio-Del Rio-Acuna "Los Zetas" Weapons Smuggling Ring

The San Antonio FBI Field Office has confirmed more people have been detained without bond after their arrest in a series of firearm and weapon smuggling operations for the Los Zetas Drug Trafficking Organization in Mexico.

Investigation by various law enforcement teams resulted in the arrest of 16 people earlier this month who were charged in a series of indictments returned by a federal grand jury in Del Rio.

Special Agent in Charge Crisanto Perez announced that two San Antonians, 32-year old Salvador Martinez, and Abigail Sabrina Trevino, 22, were charged with smuggling of firearms, including assault-type rifles, and illegal possession.

Charges against Cesar Antonio Cardona-Garcia, 22, of Ciudad Acuna, included the smuggling of six assault rifles.

Others charged with making false statements while purchasing the guns were Angel Charles Garcia, age 19 of Shawnee, OK, and Elisa Hernandez Ramirez, age 24, of Devine, Texas, along with San Antonio residents Frank Hernandez, age 23, Wayne Russell Dixon, age 53, Rey David de la O-Rodriguez, age 21, Jasmine Leeann Gordo, age 22, Amanda Lopez, age 24, Denise Ordaz, age 19, Jessica Marie Cortes, age 22, Louis Christopher Martinez, age 24, Margil Cortes, Jr., age 19, and, Patricio Nova, age 32.

The defendants immediately turned the guns over to others after claiming that they were the true purchaser.

“Between September and November 2011, Salvador Martinez, Abigail Sabrina Trevino and Frank Hernandez allegedly recruited individuals to purchase approximately 65 assault-style firearms, which were later seized by law enforcement, from San Antonio area firearms dealers,” the FBI stated.

The defendants, who remain in custody, have trial dates pending. If convicted they face up to 10 years in federal prison per count.

“This investigation is being conducted by agents with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives together with U.S. Customs and Border Protection, U.S. Customs and Border Protection–Internal Affairs, U.S. Border Patrol, U.S. Parks and Wildlife (Lake Amistad), Val Verde County Sheriff’s Office, Eagle Pass Police Department, Round Rock Police Department, Castroville Police Department and the San Antonio Police Department,” the FBI release stated.

  3. In fairness, the Mexican south border has almost zero protection...all things including humans have a free path. Its the US, with its resources that make the busts we hear about, poor countries like Guate or developing countries such as Mexico are not able protect its borders.

  6. It's funny how America as a whole gets blamed for weapons entering Mexico and the majority of the people supplying cartels with weapons are of Mexican ancestry. America doesn't need to do anything about its gun laws. We for the most part are responsible citizens. Sure there will always be corruption and people who don't adhere to laws within every and any nation but when corruption plagues police departments, politicians, towns, cities, states, and a country as a whole its a "you" problem not an "us" problem. Look in the mirror and fix what you see and quit blaming other countries for your misfortunes. America does not need to adjust its laws to please Mexico. We have done just fine with our laws for decades.

oh its ok its ok...when Americans are dying with the own weapons the US provides don't blame the Drug Cartels...they are just doing their "job".. and don't have to be held responsible if America WON'T DO THE SAME...

  13. Akeem..

Your ignorance is showing..but that aside my comment was a statement against the notion that the majority of weapons come from the US, there is proof against that statment. Complicating facts are reality is that weapons come across unchallenged on the south border.

Mexico has no border patrol. You know nothing about its constitution or forces or you would not have made such a stupid statement.

Why not stay off my posts? because I am going ahead doing what I do. I have told you before, you fool no one...i know who you are. "akeem"

    1. Just give a fun to every man who has had his son killed, every mom who has had their family taken from them and they'll do more than any government office ever would. Bullets are not afraid of rank or reputation just aim and take out any one that thinks they have a right to touch your family..

  14. this isn't journalism by the least.....this is simply copying and pasteing a story as most of bbs stories are....be original bb....most of your sources are mexican newspapers the majority of people that read bb will never know of...should be plaigarism!

  15. @2:59 What stupid comments. Sure effort is necessary to fortify a border, a duh? And only available resources, and the appropriate motivation, will prioritize the allocation of those resources to make possible those efforts, you complete idiot. no matter what the goods or services. It works the same way.

Journalism is the practice of investigation and reporting of events, issues and trends to a broad audience in a timely fashion. Though there are many variations of journalism, the ideal is to inform the intended audience.

Do you think that looking around on the INTERNET and translating is easy? Why don't you try it? Haven't you seen how many websites are using BB's material? BB don't only copy and paste and they are not the only ones who do it, I seen CNN, NY Times, Washington Post, L.A Times and many other using someone else's material for their news papers.

Since you are criticizing our efforts to share information with BB readers, I will invite you to join the forum and show us what you are made of.

  18. @9:03 You are missing the whole purpose of this site. They are not full time journalists, they do not get paid and do it on their own time when they have the time, they just find content for us and publish it, do you understand?

The source, as most news outlets get it from where someone elses reported it, is the same here. Now quit the whinning, wasting space with your unusefull rant and go somewhere else if you do not like it!

  22. Seems like our current laws are working, it's illegal to purchase a firearm for someone else and those people got caught plain and simple. In other words, we don't need more gun laws, these are doing just fine.

  23. Is anyone helping our targeted 19-24 yr old Americans? Who and how can we help stop this ASAP? What if we have for that age group to have their birth certificate and one parent to sign also before they purchase a fire arm? Who and how can we help stop them from using them like chess ponds? What is your take on this?

    ReplyDelete
  24. The small majority who do vote can still help in some or in any way. If you are not in that age group then it wouldn't mess with you. It wouldn't hurt if us voters add 2 more requirements which should be birth certificate and one parents signature. We can help STOP this permanently. It wouldn't hurt to try something different.
