US moves on family of Mexico’s most-wanted man, 'El Chapo'' Guzman

AP
The U.S. Treasury Department announced Thursday that it is placing financial sanctions on a wife and son of Mexico’s most-wanted man, Sinaloa cartel chief Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman.
The department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control said that it had designated Maria Alejandrina Salazar Hernandez and Jesus Alfredo Guzman Salazar, 26, under the U.S. Kingpin Act, which bars American citizens from dealing with them, and allows authorities to freeze their assets in the U.S.
Guzman escaped prison in 2001 and has evaded authorities ever since, moving from hideout to hideout as he directs the operations of his powerful cartel. The U.S. and Mexican government have been intensifying their actions against Guzman’s family in recent months.
Authorities in the U.S. and Mexico have said they believe Guzman has children with several partners, including an 18-year-old woman whom he married in an elaborate public ceremony in 2007. The Treasury Department described Salazar Hernandez, 53, as a wife of Guzman, without providing details.
The department last month announced sanctions against Guzman’s sons Ivan Archivaldo “El Chapito” Guzman Salazar, 31, and Ovidio Guzman Lopez, 22.

    My words:

Yes, I am with you on that, but what I would like to see is that ALL THOSE WHO WERE DIRECTLY AFFECTED BY THE ACTS OF THE CRIMINALS, that Those Victims ARE THE FIRST ONES ON THE LIST IN RECEIVING SOMETHING BACK FOR THE LOSSES THEY HAVE SUFFERED, THE EMOTIONAL SUFFERING OR LOSS OF PROPERTY or Both

  14. First, it's about time. But the other cartel leaders have family in the US that they funnel money too, so go after them as well. Second, I'm all for legalizing pot and helping those with coke and heroin addiction (meth heads need to be locked up!), but that will not stop the cartels violence and greed. They were smart enough to get into stealing oil, semi legit businesses, human smuggling, prostitution, counterfeit products and money, and most of all kidnapping and extortion. When the drug money runs dry, which it will eventually do, Mexico will be worse off. Drugs are the easy money, but it's only half of it. Buy in all honesty, if alcohol is legal there is zero reason for [at least] cannabis against the law. Us Generation X are now in our late 30's early 40's, and many of us smoke a few bowls after work instead of getting drunk off a few glasses of wine. It's the same thing, same motivation, same result, but one will ruin your record. This is coming from a person who doesn't smoke pot for a single reason, and that it's against the law. I'd love to eat a brownie before bed instead of taking Lunesta or Ambian and stop taking Welbutrin. But until it's legal, it's a once in a long while enjoyment.

    1. Everything you said is dead on. Alcohol impairs people fair beyond marijuana. People die from alcohol use and kill people from driving drunk , yet it is legal. Pot grows naturally and causes less harm then your chemically soaked cigarettes . The lobbyist for alcohol and pharmaceutical companies put so much money into the pockets of our tie wearing cartels that everything is done ass backwards and less then half hearted. Anyone who steps forward for legalization is demonized and blackbalded.

  15. @June 7, 2012 8:52 PM you sir are an idiot. They will eventually catch him. Legalizing marijuana and taxing seems a good idea but the other hardcore drugs should be still illegal.

    1. If u actually read what he posted it says "I'm all for legalizing pot and helping those with coke and heroin addiction." it never says anything about legallizing coke and heroin. So looks like you sir are the idiot.

  16. The US doesn't care about chapo or zetas or any other cartels, their mentality is let them kill each other off unless a US politician family member is directly affected nothing immediate will be done

  17. If the Zeta's find out about the locations of Chapos family members possibly through a corrupt cop involved in these sanctions you can be sure they will all meet their demise quickly.

  18. @ 8:07 PM

Still there's no such thing as 100% security. The Zeta's would not care about losing some guys to get someone close to Chapo.

  20. Maybe I'm misunderstanding this. He has an 18 year old wife that he married in 2007? Does that mean he married her when she was 13?!
