A total of 62 Policia Federal (PF) agents have been kidnapped in Uruapan municipality in Michaocan state, according to a several Mexican news accounts.
Twelve PF
agents apparently happened upon a roadblock maintained by local
indigenous Angahuan and Carapan Indians when they were taken prisoner Indigenous Indians are protesting illegal
logging in the Meseta Purepecha area, according to a report posted on
the website of El Sol de Zacatecas news daily.
According to a late article posted on thw website of El Sol de Mexico news daily, a total of 50 additional PF agents were kidnapped. The article failed to elaborate when and where the additional police were kidnapped.
The
roads between Uruapan and Paracho, and Los Reyes and Zamora are being
blocked as well as roads near Angahuan Capacuaro, Santa Cruz Tanaco and Tlazazalca. Those stretches of roads are less than seven
kilometers from Cheran municipality, where continual protests against
activity residents have claimed as illegal logging has taken place the
past two years.
Wednesday
a Michoacan government news release said that at least three mixed
operating bases would be established in the areas around Cheran, Paracho
and Santa Cruz Tanaco. BOM or Base de Operaciones Mixtas, is a mixture of federal
and state security forces. The mixing of security forces from all
levels of gvoernment is a practice in routine use in Nuevo Leon state to
counter drug gangs operating in the area, and to provide patrols.
According to the El Sol de Mexico article the kidnappings are a response to the Michoacan state government plan to beef up security forces in the area. PF have also been asked to leave the area by indigent Indians.
The
news release, which names Michoacan governor Fausto Vallejo Figueroa
said a number of repeated meetings would take place to assess the
security situation in the area.
The uptick in activity
takes place in the wake of the murder of two Cheran residents two weeks ago
near Cheran. The victims, Urbano Macias Rafael, 48, and Guadalupe
Geronimo Velazquez, 28 were kidnapped as they attempted to bring in
cattle from the fields. A protest by Cheran residents not only locked
local officials in the town hall, but also took place in the capital of
Morelia at the legislative palace.
The two men were later found dead.
Issues
for local indigenous Indians in Michoacan boil down to illegal use of lands they
consider tribal and sacred. Residents of Cheran have been protesting
illegal logging and organized crime activity in the area for years.
Even
so, indigenous Indians such as the residents of Cheran have allegedly themselves
been involved in a number of illegal acts such as auto theft
carjacking, illegal roadblocks and imposition of illegal duties, as well
a number of other petty crimes.
Michoacan is one of
the six most heavily reinforced states in Mexico with at least 8,000
Mexican army troops deployed to the area. Those troops along with
elements of Mexican Naval Infantry troops and Policia Federal
troops were ordered into the state to provide additional security for
the November 2011 elections. Those troops have only been reinforced
since then.

How do 62 armed police get kidnapped? uh?
ReplyDeleteYou are talking mexican police, remember? And you are surprised why??? LoL
ReplyDelete10:19 p.m. Lol this u Fucking smartass. What a douchebag. People r sick of retard comments.
DeleteWith the cartels becoming more chameleon-like everyday, it is not surprising even the police and armed forces have difficulty telling friends from foes!
ReplyDeleteThey not only dress exactly like the police and army personnel but also drive vehicles similarly marked!!!
So, it's vitally important that a foolproof system be found to tell friend from foe.
Perhaps the gallant folks in Cheran were also fooled this way and some ended up being killed by these rascals!
I think the number of police kidnapped if any is exagerated in order to justify the killings of indegious which is sure to come, these people have alot of heart but like the apachez of old they will lose the fight but will win the hearts and minds of many of my maya mexica hente
ReplyDeleteGood article
ReplyDeleteThis is bull shit 62 heavily armed federal agents are not going to go down just like that.this smells fishy...deserted maybe??

Delete62 armed police, this is why mexico has no respect, Man were did they find these federal police, just hanging out in front of a Mexican Home depot and just gave them a badge and a gun, if I was a cop or army solder in mexico, I would sleep with my gun always have in my hand, I would never be taken alive because days worth and of torture and beheading by a bone saw is worse than one bullet to the chest or head.
ReplyDeleteHow the f 62 federalies been kidnap....maybe they perfer go work with templiarios or la familia cartels more $
ReplyDeleteI think they are using their PTO and they are probably relaxing under a cabana in Acapulco, drinking bloodymary's and margaritas , they need 2 clear their heads from all the stress they gave encountered before these elections.....

ja ja ja ja !
Well the indigenous are taking.back. their land, i heard about cops shooting people because they don't allow the loggers to take out wood. Eithrr the people kidnap this cops, or the gov making up shit to retaliate against this people b justifying it with kidnappings.i hope in wrong
ReplyDeleteSeveral of you ask how it's possible to take 62 trained soldiers/police as prisoners. Perhaps you should read of the exploits of one Alvin York at Argonne Forest, France, 8 October 1918. He captured 132 German's, both civilian and military, with himself and six others. Who's to say when a man/woman decides they have had enough.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't there when these 62 people were taken as prisoners so I can't say how I would have reacted, but I can say as a former combat Marine in Vietnam our motto was, "We all go down together." The fact that these 62 people were willing to just put the uniform on, so to speak, says a lot about them.
I wonder what's really going on here. I have a feeling these people that are standing up the the cartels are going to get crushed by the cartels paid henchman.. the federal gov.
ReplyDeleteThis is just to bring heat to the Indians si the cartels can takeover
ReplyDelete7:28....
ReplyDeleteThis is not my article. Not my source....you're funny...jus saying....

Arriva Tarasco! que siga la revolucion!
ReplyDelete100% MICHOACAN PARIENTES.
ReplyDeleteThey dint kicked zetas out of michoacan they just they just changed the name to familia michoacaca, and cacalleros templarios, michoacanos suck dick
ReplyDeleteThey let them go already. Showed them mercy after working for a fucked up goverment
ReplyDeleteI just checked, and so far no one is walking back the claim that 62 have been kidnapped or taken hostage.
ReplyDeleteThe federal SSP shows every sign of a force that is under strict orders not to use deadly force unless they are fired on, and if the residents of Cheran are aware of those orders, it is easy to see how those police were kidnapped.
Potentially the situation in Michoacan is extremely volatile. I know of two other areas in Michoacan in which local indigenous Indians make the same or similar claims as are being made by the Cheran residents, and are willing to back them up by force of arms, if necessary.
The last thing Michoacan Governor Vallejo Figueroa wants is the bad publicity that would inevitably result should the fighting going hot throughout Michoacan. So far the Michoacan political leadership, but for the BOM proposal, have played their role in these events about as well as they can possibly play it.
It helps no one to make a claim that a reporter has written a false story, if there is a verifiable source, which in this case there are at least three, news outlets reporting the 50 kidnapped.
Should I see a report that walks back or refutes the claim of 50 PF agents being held hostage, this story will be updated to reflect that.
This is the only state that stand up for they people even the law can't fuck with them
ReplyDeleteUpdated: The 50 PF troops are to be released.
ReplyDeleteShit this has all the makings of a great movie, indigenous population fights of drug cartels and corrupt govt. lets see it!
ReplyDeleteWith Benicio Del Torro, Johnny Depp, Brad Pit and Sean Penn. Almost forgot Kathy Bates, Selma Hyak and Jessica Alba.
DeleteThe community members are holding the police officers because they are tired of being extorted. The police are charging them up to $5000 per month to be allowed to work in their own fields. This is a very brave thing to do.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a new cartel coming out of Michoacan soon...
ReplyDeleteBadnaov..could you please give me the link to your sources that say the indigenous peoples are carjacking etc?
ReplyDeleteThe people that held the feds hostage (60) were Capacuarenses. of capacuaro.
The agreement with the state and fed gov was signed yesterday I am posting an article over the weekend about it...paz, chivis
