Chaos In Guadalajara As It Experiences A Surge In Violence

Leader of CJNG, "El Mencho" Captured?

Gunmen created narco blockades  blocking highways throughout Guadalajara, Mexico's second biggest city. On Saturday  vehicles were set on fire amid a surge in drug-war violence.
Though no official information had been released, information was flowing through Twitter and other social networks.  Reports of large groups and convoys of heavily armed masked men were conducting shootings, blockades and terrorizing people throughout Jalisco.
Reports from: Guadalajara, Zapopan, Guzman, Tuxucca, Tlaquepaque, Tonila and Tlajomulco among other cities involved.
Police confirmed seven unauthorized roadblocks constructed with charred, smoldering cars and trucks within the Guadalajara city limits and 15 others in the surrounding Jalisco .
Luis Carlos Najera, police chief for Jalisco state, told reporters "We don't know who is behind this operation," he said.  However later is was reported  that there was an apprehension of  Oceguera Nemesio Cervantes, "El Mencho", alleged leader of the New Generation Jalisco Cartel, which allegedly drove the surge in vehicle crashes and fires committed by members of organized crime in this entity and Colima.

Officials from the Federal Ministry of Public Security (SSP)  confirmed that the series of violent acts were due to the arrest of suspected drug trafficker El Mencho who operates in alliance with the Sinaloa cartel led by Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman.

The agency explained that the capture took place in the town of Tonaya, with the support of five Black Hawk helicopters and one Mi-17. In the operation, six suspected attackers were killed, three injured federal police.

Guadalajara has not seen the level of drug cartel-related violence as other areas, but similar flaming roadblocks shook the city in early March as military forces successfully sought to arrest a prominent cartel leader.
Jalisco state has been a stronghold of the Sinaloa Cartel since the 1980s, when traffickers first started to use Mexico as a "trampoline" to bounce cocaine into the United States.
It has recently seen an upsurge in violence as Sinaloa Cartel gunmen battle rivals from the  Zetas cartel, which is displacing older trafficking groups in many parts of Mexico.

Interesting comment from a reader coomenting on the thread of this story:

As far as I know no public pictures exist of Mencho. I just learned of the ssp announcement. It may also be worthwhile to mention that Erick Valencia Salazar (el 85) at no point was #1 of CDJNG, it was Mencho who they were after when Erick was arrested. Mencho managed to get away. Mencho was one of Ignacio Coronel's right hand men. After his death he formed CDJNG to fight the new alliance between the Valencia family and la familia who desperately wanted Jalisco. And yes CDJNG is still a cell of CDS. That will never change since Jalisco is a strategic state for drug production and south American drug imports. Sinaloa will never let go of it.

  5. If you follow events here in Mexico, livestream so to speak, then you will realize that when you guys are confidently misinforming the public about how the Zs are done, they split, the are going down, etc etc, here in Mexico every violent act that involves massive police deployments usually have the Zs involved in one way or another.

On another note, how the fuck are these CT going to put out a communique for unity against the Zs when they themselves want to take over jalisco route through Guada, meanwhile the Zs are pushing consistently south into Jalisco through Zacatecas, the Gulf Cartel cant make up its mind about who to form an alliance with, the CJNG or CT or LFM or CDS, just about every Guerrero faction is trying to push upwards through Michoacan and Morelos, Beltran Leyvas and Carrillo Fuentes are holding on to Mexico City and its surroundings at all costs with the backing of the Zs from Queretaro through Hidalgo and San Luis, down to Puebla, Veracruz Tabasco and Oaxaca and meanwhile the North...the list is endless and mindboggling if you try to wrap your mind around it.

Its pointless to even try to deal with every detail because the next day reality will prve how obivious the public really is with regards to this so called Mexican Drug War, I guess that is why people for the most part are either Z or CDS cheerleaders, LOL.

Also LFM still controls between 8 and 14 municipalidases in Michoaca, a big part of Jalisco, Colima, Guanaguato, Guerrero and Moeelos so wake up and smell the coffee why do you think Tutas.people HAD TO GOIN WITH TWO OTHER CARTELS in Guerrero and DF to try and take those plazas from the LFM? Does anyone here actually know what im talking about? Tuta goined with El Cartel del Centro in DF and the surrounding areas to fight the LFM and take away that plaza, from them. Also in Guerrero and specially in the city of Acapulco Tuta goined wkth a much smaller cartel called CIDA which stands for Cartel Independiente de Acapulco to fight off the LFM, Los Rojos and the Beltran Leyva/Zetas alliance. So dont count LFM out gust yet. Look at the 3 hour shoot out the gust had with the Guerreros Unidos(Caballeros, Centro and CIDA thats what they call themselves when they gang up on LFM). At least 30 dead, now compare that ONE FUCKING GHN BATTLE with hoe Z40 and El Taliban Z50 are fighting each other like pussy gurls.

  9. It's not 100% confirmed that Mencho was detained. I do know for sure that the military and federales are guarding the SEMEFO in GDL (govt morgue). I'm assuming they have the body there of someone very high profile. As of now both el occidental and milenio were reporting that Mencho was detained without citing an official source. I just find it weird that all this started off in tonaya, Jalisco when federales got into a shootout yesterday killing 6 cartel members. Mencho supposedly was arrested early Friday morning. Why did it take them that long to react? I'm going to keep my eye on this story. If no one is presented to the media on Monday, then Mencho is still at large.

Many may be speculating that this will be the end of CDJNG. I highly doubt it. It's run by one of the most violent and powerful cartels in Mexico, Cartel de Sinaloa. It's my personal theory that on of the higher ranking jefes de plaza will take control of the cartel (most of the plazas are located in southern Jalisco). As far as I know here is how the leadership of the cartel was structured as of last year.

    1. Mencho
    2. El 53
    3. Erick Valencia (85)
    4. El zopilote (was jefe de plaza of tecalitlan and the reason la familia/ la resistencia attacked teca on dec 12 2010).

All of these men have been arrested.

I don't know if you saw my comment about large comboys de los zetas were spotted (3 of them) in jalico on friday. I was making a point that we hear very little and said infact comboys were spotted etc. that was before all hell broke loose. now I wonder what the hell that was about? seems sharks were on point? smelling blood?

Like you I doubt this is the end of CJNG thanks for the comments, I am sure readers are grateful to hear from someone respectful and knowledgable. We get so many interesting comments that we can't use, the language is so vile or racist, too bad because some are great points, there is no way for us to edit comments so we have to delete.

Curious, are you in Jalisco or connected to someone that is? Much of my family is in Jalisco y sonora. ...paz chivis

  24. "For all who try to make a point that this violence also happens in America, I can asure you, theres not one blockade anywhere in this country. Mexico is completely lawless at this point."

Parts of Mexico are lawless, not all of it. The USA had similar problems with lawlessness in the 1920s and 1930s.

Having said that, this situation is definately more complex than it was in the US back in those days. That is because Mexico has a weaker central government than the US did back then.

  27. As far as the zeta convoys in jalisco what I do know is that zetas frequently enter jalisco through Zacatecas and Nayarit to steal vehicles and try to escape before thu are spotted by halcones and cds/CDJNG members chase them back to their areas (they usually stay right at the border of these two states in order to make a quick retreat). I believe this happened up north in magdalena Jalisco not too long ago.

Could Leon, or Guanajuato get as messy as Guadalajara in the near future? It sounds like they've got more troops in the State but that seems like it has often been a lead in into more violence in general.
