HIDALGO COUNTY - An increase in the confiscation of drug loads may be driving cartels to resort to scare tactics, officials said.
Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Trevino said the Rio Grande Valley's law enforcement community has received threats about poison-laced drug loads.
Trevino said the cartels may be trying to intimidate law enforcement in the wake of record drug seizures in the Valley.
"Drug-trafficking organizations in Mexico (say they) are going to taint or contaminate the outside of the packaging of marijuana loads ... so American law enforcement can be harmed," Trevino said.
"Our deputies, when they are handling the evidence, are required to wear latex gloves (and) surgical masks," Trevino said.
Still, Trevino said it's highly unlikely the cartels will taint the products that bring the most money. He said none of the packages in the county's evidence lockers have been found to be tainted.
"I think the Mexican drug organizations are becoming desperate in their rhetoric and their tactics," Trevino said.
Trevino said law enforcement agencies throughout the Valley are having more success combating human and drug trafficking.
He said the threat may be just a tactic to scare officers.

ReplyDeleteDamn how stupid are these prisoners demanding money and property in a jail cell... gives a whole new meaning to stupidity...hahaha
ReplyDelete11:59 pm. You want stupid? In Baltimore, the Black Gorilla Family aka BGF, got in mucho trouble for running the jails and detention centers. The "top dog", got 4 female guards pregnant, used another female for sex,got 10 officers to bring in cell phones, drugs etc. This has gone on since 2009 and the feds just arrested 9 officers. One officer died the day before in a botched robbery. How were they finally caught? " TOP DOG", was drinking beer with his homies..in jail and a new officer told the feds. It really is a must read on greed, power, money, drugs and corruption. Great article BB. The BGF gets their pot from the mexican cartels to sell inside and out of the prisons. Wish there were more dumb asses on both sides of the border! Peace, Texas Grandma. (Ja ja).
