Armed suspects enter Jicamorachi in Chihuahua

A large group of armed suspects entered the village of Jicamorachi in Urique municipality in extreme western Chihuahua state Tuesday, according to Mexican news accounts.
According to a news report posted on the website of El Diario de Juarez Wednesday, an unidentified individual called the newspaper saying that armed suspects entered Jicamorachi sometime in the morning, firing weapons and threatening residents if they did not leave. The caller said that some residences had been torched.
At the time of the story, a telephone call was placed to the town clerk of Urique municipality, who was identified as Jaime Banda, who said he was unaware of the incursion by armed suspects.
However, according to a separate news account posted on the website of El Norte news daily, Carlos Gonzalez of the Chihuahua state Fiscalia general del Estado (FGE) or attorney general confirmed that three residences had been torched in Jicamorachi, firearms were fired, but no report of injuries had been made.
Urique municipality is no stranger to drug and gang violence. The most recent violent incident last November involved the murder of a local Sinaloa Cartel leader, Antonio Erives Arduño, 39, who was beheaded. The discovery of the body led to a shootout between elements of the Sinaloa and Juarez cartels.
According to a news account which appeared on the website of El Diario de Coahuila news daily by Red Libre Periodismo writer Patricia Mayorga, last February armed suspects entered two mining camps in Urique municipality and kidnapped six men and stole two vehicles, cell phones and other items. The armed suspects also threatened to kill miners if they did not leave the area.
Both cartel compete in the area for routes and growing areas, and both treat local indigenous people as serfs if they do not cooperate.
Also in Jicamorachi two years ago a feud between two families led to six homes torched, another ten damaged by gunfire and four vehicles torched. The village, according to an archived news account posted on he website of El Mexicano news daily, Jicamorachi is evenly divided between supporters of the two competing families.
According to a separate archived news account posted on the website of Milenio news daily, the most recent census data puts the population of the village at 374 inhabitants, of which 95 are men and 171 are women. The male population reduction is mainly due to migration. About 30 structures are in the village which are classified as residences.
Jicamorachi is in a remote area of the Sierras de Tarahumara, so much so it takes about six hours to get from Urique, the municipal seat to the village.

ReplyDeleteI remember reading a book about the Comanches and Apaches invading the Chihuahua state. They caused a lot of destruction every year.

There are many"men"but it is east to throw stones at people hundreds of miles away. What can we do?It is men who are committing these atrocities. There is violence and chaos in many areas of the world. Some Mexican"men"are standing up and fighting, enough of this bullshit, where a crew of 80 can cow thousands. But,Mexico is very complicated in this regard,it is cultural and endemic,a way of life. How do you sort this out?I sure don't know, but the government don't seem to be very worried and may even facilitate parts of it?Big problem.
I always wondered what happend with that whole situation out there after i read that story about antonio erives.that was by far one of the best storys i have read on this website.

ReplyDeleteI wonder if the writer would stop referring to "armed suspects". These are "armed criminals" or "members of an armed criminal gang". A "suspect", on the other hand, is a person who IS THOUGHT to have committed some crime (who is suspected of committing a crime). These bastards are not "suspects". We know they committed certain crimes (and so very sadly, Mexico being what it is, will probably enjoy immunity, and continue to commit more.) If, in the very unlikely event that they're brought to trial, jailed for thirty, forty or fifty years, they might well be let out at night to commit more.
ReplyDeleteMy heart grieves.
95 + 171 = 266
ReplyDeleteI wondered about that too, but I suspect the difference is the number of children in town.

ReplyDeleteThere was never a treaty with cds in chih, whomever said that was lying, southern chih is influenced by cds, especially parral, but cdj is makin its move into the sierras and south chih to regain its turf, so it seems, there will never be peace, to many dead to many family fueds
ReplyDeleteBla bla bla ... the US and Los Gringos aren't the ones who are shitting on the Indigenous residents of this area.
ReplyDeleteUntil you stop side stepping the REAL issue and admit it is YOUR OWN committing these acts against the people of Mexico, you aren't worth listening to & you definitely aren't going to help the people being shit on.
these attacks were from la linea burning the last properties that belonged to erives, remember about 6 months ago he was decapitated in front of the towns people by the juarez cartel...erives being a capo for the sinaloa cartel in southern chihuahua, sorry chapo nut huggers, cds continues to loose power...

ReplyDeleteSo we're getting our political insight from people who dress in fuzzy bright yellow suits and sing nut hugging songs about AFO thugs/naco murderers???
My own problem child is still in her cone of shame because I let her off for one night and then busted her at 3 in the morning messing with her foot. *sigh* It's hard to be a puppy mom sometimes.
