Mexico D.F. (PROCESO).- At the end of last century, after the death of Amado Carrillo, leader of the Juarez Cartel, the leadership of the criminal organization went to his brother Vicente aka “El Viceroy”. Lately the power of the organization fell and there are signs of Vicente being sick and practically in retirement. But that doesn´t matter, the criminal groups restore themselves. Nowadays a new generation of the Carrillo family has created alliances with the Beltran Leyva (former lieutenants of Amado Carrillo) and “Los Zetas”(this according to a PGR file accessed by PROCESO) in order restore Juarez in the criminal map. This is the New Juarez Cartel, led by a man nicknamed “Betty La Fea (Ugly Betty)”.
They call him “Ugly Betty” even if he´s no heroine like the Colombian soup opera character made famous in the 90´s. His name is Alberto Carrillo Fuentes, an up and coming capo and leading actor in the bloody cartel wars taking place in the states of Chihuahua, Sinaloa, Sonora, Coahuila and Durango.
According to files from the PGR accessed by PROCESO, “Ugly Betty” is the leader of the New Juarez Cartel, as the old criminal group calls itself now, this group is allied with Los Zetas and the Beltran Leyva Cartel who are fighting for their territories against the Sinaloa Cartel.
“Ugly Betty” is Amado Carrillo´s brother aka “El Señor de los Cielos”, founder and former boss of bosses in the Juarez Cartel, and of Vicente Carrillo Fuentes aka “El Viceroy”, who, according to authorities began leading the Juarez Cartel in 1997, after Amado´s death.
“There are versions” pointing to the poor health of Vicente, for this reason he is more of a “moral leader”, he doesn´t take any more decisions, nor he helps in the structural design of the New Juarez Cartel, this according to the PGR files.
To this day -according to those same files- the New Juarez Cartel leaders are: “Ugly Betty” as the top leader and Amado´s sons Julio Cesar and Juan Carrillo Leyva, younger brother of Vicente Carrillo Leyva, currently in prison.
Even though authorities still don´t know where the nickname generated, they do know that the war he wages alongside Miguel Angel Treviño aka “Z40” and Hector Beltran Leyva aka “El H” against Joaquin Guzman Loera aka “El Chapo” has taken thousands of lives.

Tijuano I checked on some sources and discovered a bit of info.... Apparently alberto was called betty affectionately short for betiyo by family members and friends... Being called betty since childhood the name betty la fea came into play once he entered the family business full time. During that era the columbian soap was at full throttle... The house walls were covered with graffiti. Authorities said the symbols may be tied to criminal organization.
"A lot of the indicators on the wall are tied to transnational criminal organizations. There's markings and other information up there. You may have one group that may have left a message behind for the next group. The information may be written on the wall," Border Patrol Spokesman Henry Mendiola said.
Mendiola said 27 of the 34 immigrants are from countries other then Mexico. Several women were among the immigrants.
"There's very, very little privacy. They may have a door in the bathroom, but that's all you're going to get. The rest is done in the front of everybody else," Mendiola said.
Agents said the house appeared to have been used to hide immigrants for some time.
An hour after the raid, agents rushed to a field to look for a group of illegal immigrants. They said the immigrants were hiding along the road. They fled into the field when they saw the agents.
Agents arrested 40 immigrants at the site.
"These people ran about a half mile in this heat, and they're not prepared for that. They haven't had decent food or water and they're not prepared to take on these elements," Mendiola said.
I think many underestimate the strenght of the Juarez and the beltran leyvas ,and their wealth.So you guys give yourself an idea el H was paying $ 450,000 a month to one high level government official. ReplyDeleteFirst off any prison guard worth his salt would understand that you underestimate NOBODY, respect EVERYBODY and you will get respect in return. Prison guards are not immune to prison violence. My guess is you are either a fresh fish, or work at a minimum level security facility. Regardless that doesn't matter. I think it is rather interesting that despite all of Chapo's attempts destroy them they still remain. That tells me that they are dangerous, resilient, a bit more powerful than most assume they are. I think underestimating them at this point is foolish, and if I was in charge of another cartel they would most certainly my full attention.

ReplyDeleteCarillo fuentes r done in juarez. La linea is running there own operation and the aztecas are doing the same. The Aztecas still run the streets of juarez and all the barrios. Chapo only runs the outzkirts of juarez but the city belongs to the aztecas.
