Tunnels with rail systems discovered in San Diego

Chivís Martínez for Borderland Beat
It has not been determined if tunnels were used for trafficking drugs, people or both.
This week two  tunnels were detected along the United States, Mexican border just south of San Diego.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents made the discovery  in Otay Mesa.

They were found at  10005 Marconi Drive and 10145 Via de la Amistad.

The tunnels are in an industrial area, within two miles south of the Mexican border.

The tunnel that exits inside the Via de la Amistad warehouse, has a  70-foot shaft and  a pulley system designed to extract cargo out of the tunnel and into the warehouse. The warehouse filled with televisions and children’s toys, including plastic three-wheelers.

The tunnels have a tiered electric rail system extending along the 700-yard tunnel.

CBP reports a new tactic used by traffickers increasing the difficulty of detecting tunnels. Previously, traffickers used the tunnels in a continuous fashion, where upon the discovery of drugs would be found in conjunction with the tunnel.

In the new tactic,  smaller shipments are sent, then access points sealed and the operation shut down for days before resuming activity.   This makes its discovery increasingly difficult, as agents have relied on activity as a component to flagging trafficking tunnels

The access points have become camouflaged so well that without detection equipment they are indistinguishable from its surrounding..

In this case, a  cementitious material was applied on the hatch top, then painted the same color as the overall floor.

The investigation that led to the discovery of the Via de la Amistad tunnel, was conducted over several months, followed by the second tunnel on Tuesday.

Only one person has been arrested so far, a 73-year-old Chula Vista woman has been arrested and faces federal charges.

There  have been seven tunnels discovered in San Diego in less than four years.

Although agents did not speculate, tunnels are attributed to El Chapo and his Sinaloa cartel

  4. This tunnel has a food court and an underground mall. LOL. There are many tactics but one thing that all narco-tunnels have in common is that they cross the dotted line on the map.

  5. The video reports that the wharehouses were filled with childrens toys. Could this possibly be why there are so many childrens toy stores in the Hungtington Park/ Maywood / Bell area of Los Angeles, which is a hub for large drug shipments? Drive around this area and the shops are everywhere. Maybe they are just fronts.

  6. Let there be no doubt. The influence of the Sinaloa Cartel is still being felt in the narco trafficking world - and more specifically that of JAGL. His sons, brother, and his compadre El Licensiado will continue to run what is considered one of the world's largest criminal enterprises like a well-oiled machine. Or doesn't anybody think that the American illegal narcotic consumer market is about to disappear anytime soon?

On a different note, heads have been rolling in Sinaloa and Sonora ever since Chapo was captured. There is some "ajuste de cuentas" and cartel restructing going on. The take down of el Tigre Ceniceros seems to be one of those episodes. I don't think it was as simple as his convoy happened to come upon a marine convoy. Might have been blamed for Chapo's capture.

  11. On the local San Diego news (KUSI) they stated that they found the tunnels since 2010 and let them keep operating. To catch more people. Sounds like BS.

  12. Why didn't chapos daughter just use one of his tunnels to come to the u.s.? Its got to be faster than waiting in line at San ysidro

    1. She could travel even faster if she brings her kids so that she can use the tunnel's 'high vehicle occupancy lane'. If she wants to ride the rails; there are passenger cars as well as freight cars. I heard they even have a customs officer waving the traffic through.

  14. It's just amazing to me why we don't enforce our immigration laws in this country. This is the result of our weak government. What's really amazing is that we haven't been hit with a major terrorist strike, you know how many dirty bombs you could smuggle through these tunnels...

    1. Do you know how many "dirty bombs" can be made here without any need to smuggle anything in? This whole terrorist thing is something the government uses to keep fear in the people and have them doing exactly what they want them to do. You think they are "weak" but that's what they want you to believe. They know what is coming into this country and they allow it. Wake up

  17. I don't know why those dip shit's go hunting for these tunnels when all they have to do is go and ask the DEA or CIA and they can take them right to them. As corrupt as the US Law enforcement and Mexican's I'm surprised they don't bring the dope over on open flat bed trucks. I love how the public likes to act like the authorities actually do their job and the authorities like to lie and act like their doing their job to protect the people. All the while, US authorities really actually only care about a specific group of people and their the upper middle class and above, and I guess somewhat the middle, but really only a little bit, the rest of the US citizens they could give a shit about and the reality is your really worth more in prison then on the streets.

  18. 8:13 miguel angel felix gallardo, to the arellano felix cartel puts the cartel all the way back to the 70's, don chuy labra aviles, ties with pedro aviles, puts the caryls back into the 60's, and the origins of all the big drug trafficking cartels tie nicely to sinaloa families.
the sinaloa beauty queen that married an italian mafioso, and the time Sam Giancana lived in morelos state, the marriage of Harry "the hook" Aleman's durangueño daddy into the chicago mafia.
tin-tan was taken to cuba by santito trafficante, that is juarez cartel, etc, but tey all got powerful when the federal police and the DFS got into the business of extorting the cartels, killing the bosses and taking over the operations, they work with international crime families and powerful politicians, who move their drug loads by the tons, by shiploads, by super jumbo jets, i suspect the tunneleros are just allowed to move enough shit to put the blame on them, like patsies, they always go for it, a tunnel at a time, there is also the coal trains that used to bring in the cacaine under the coal imported into the US by way of california until someone ratted them...
who needs US coal when so much can be imported from caohuila? extracted by south american illegal aliens without union or any other kind of rights?
if i was at least vicepresident of the US i'd buy me some shares of privatized mexican railroad companies, for the 1 000% profit margins...

  19. since 9/11, the intelligence services were forced to work together, and the CIA got to boss around the DEA, but the two agencies ate each other, and the CIA has been running cowboy operations of drug traffickng into the US and blaming the DEA.
--past DEA chiefs have said the DEA is the only agency authorized to do that, and therefore it is legal, if the DEA does it.
--if anybody else does drug traffickng into the US, CIA, ICE, NSA, etc it is illegal, period.
--there is a lot more trafficking, and everybody in government knows, and there is no prosecution and no investigation, specially since the Kerry report or the Gary Hart letter regarding such illegal activities of the CIA and some big name US politicians who went on to become US presidents.
Hart and kerry did not get to be president, one for womanizing, the other got swiftboated by a bunch of chickenhawks that know how it all works and make big chunks off government contracts, specially the contract on america, that is some welfare for the rich, and no, no tunnels for them, with the air force and all kinds of CIA planes, who needs tunnels? mexicans?
drugs, arms, oil, the best money making businesses in the world, wanna guess who owns those businesses?
