Danger is persistent for singers
who sing the so-called narco corridos.
Killings and warnings are a part of the business against those who sing about the "heroics" and glorification of drug traffickers.
Murders and threats of death from
rival groups, such is the case in point that singer Gerardo Ortiz faces, having
received several death threats in the past, another presented itself yesterday,
displayed in a narco manta (banner).
The singer was scheduled to
perform at the Plaza Monumental de Tijuana, when the image of Manta appeared
via social networks. The manta was quickly removed by
authorities.
The message conveyed a demand
that he not sing any songs for 'El Achilles' and /or his brother ‘La Rana',
otherwise he will be killed. The text
was signed by LA MAÑA .
In 2011 suffered an armed attack in which his
representative and driver were killed.

She died from shot by one of her "so called friends" that was incharged of her sales for merchandise( something like that) and selena had to fire her because she wasnt doing things correctly and so that lady shot her in the back because she felt betrayed by selena. Also valentin elizalde die from being killed by ppl from cdg ( back when cds was fighting cdg) he sang a song called * a mis enemigos* which was a song from cds to cdg. Chalino sanchez death is a bit unknown, some say because a certain songs he sang were about narcos in Sinaloa and an he was threated to not sing them, which is why at his last concert he was picked up by a strange group of people and next morning found dead with bulet wounds to his head, another story is that one of his family members (female) was kidnapped and so chalino ended up finding that person and killed him and so his death, was basicly revenge from the family of the guy he killed (narco related). But please never again mention Selena in narco related stuff he had nothing to do with this crap.

I said her death was attributed to violence nonetheless at the prime age of 23. She was a member of the same community of artists who have succumbed to narco deaths in more recent times. The same attitude of settling conflicts with violence, or more appropriately gun violence, is what caused her death as well as Valentine Elizalde, Chalino Sanchez and many lesser known artists.

ReplyDeleteI don´t know who put the banner, if we guide ourselves by the wording, then yes, it does look as something CAF would have written(TJ has an owner, that´s a recurrent CAF line, La Maña, that´s how they call themselves too). BUT, we simply don´t know.
If the threats were real or not, I don´t think Gerardo Ortiz wants to find out, after his previous attack, and having as examples Valentin Elizalde and countless others, I don´t blame him.
Now about sending the message directly to him, you gotta understand this might be a message to someone else and not to Gerardo, let´s say its a way of saying "You don´t have the control your corridos claim you do over TJ".
Anyway, I´m happy nothing happened, Tijuana doesn´t need that kind of press.
All the records I bought back in the day said Selena y los Dinos...I thought Kumbia Kings were formed after her death by her brother AB. Anyway, this is karma for Gerardo Ortiz, as he has been threatening to kill people with his music for years now. I'll bet there are more than a few suicides attributed to accidentially turning the radio on with him singing and not being able to turn the radio off before driving into the nearest telephone pole at full speed to make it stop !!
ReplyDeleteWent to the concert at the fair in Santa Rita in Chihuahua last night. I was enjoying the concert and about the 7th song in they started singing the Corrido's. It is against the law to sing these Corrido's in Chihuahua. But they all do. They just pay the fine. the law does not stop any of them from singing them. The older people and the well dressed people do not seem to mind. You would think the mature and real working class of people would not condone music that is getting many young Mexican people killed. I do not know too many senior citizens or business people that condone rap music that glorifies gangster style life. But they do not seem to mind corrido's that get their own people condone killed.
