Word in Culiacan is that he flipped on CDS, cooperated with US authorities and got a reduced sentence. Just like Zambada's kid. I guess "el cargo si le hizo daño". But within CDS, blood is thicker than water because they welcome informers back with open hands. MZ said that he hoped his own son would cooperate with US authorities. Few months after that Chapo is captured. Just a coincidence. I do not think so.

However I think that there would be many other people in the shadows who are much more likely to be the current leader.
