“They won’t permit Nestora Salgado speak with her attorney, but Gordillo will
face trial from home.” It paid off forcing union members to vote for President Enrique Peña.
Former teachers' union
leader Elba Esther Gordillo, arrested on charges of tax fraud, money laundering
and organized crime two years ago, will face the trial from the comfort of her
own home, a federal court judge ruled Tuesday.
Gordillo was the leader of
the National Education Workers' Union (SNTE) – Latin America's largest labor
union – since 1989, before she was arrested in February 2013. She is accused of
embezzling about US$200 million from the teacher’s guild.
The former leader had also
been considered the most powerful woman in Mexico and is known for going on
luxurious spending sprees and giving lavish gifts to regional union leaders to
buy their support. She was also known for supporting the election of various
past presidents, including Enrique Peña Nieto, by obligating union members to
vote for them.
Alejandro Caballero Vertiz, the sixth district judge in federal criminal proceedings, ruled that due to Gordillo's age she qualifies for the Law on the Rights of Older Persons. Under the law, people who are above the age of 60 and face debilitating health issues are allowed special privileges in their criminal proceedings. Among those privileges, Gordillo could face trial from home and house arrest, according to Reforma.
“The judge, in an agreement, has recognized [her] as an elderly person with diseases, according to the Law on the Rights of Older Persons,” said Marco Antonio del Toro, Gordillo's defense attorney. “There is jurisprudence of the Supreme Court that says that an older adult may be eligible for house arrest when a condition of disease is given, as is the case.”

Gordillo is due to turn 70
on Feb. 6, but her attorney did not elaborate on the health challenges that she
faces. [residual issues with plastic surgery perhaps?]
The following tweet sums up
corruption in Mexico and the privileges influential “leaders” have in a country
that has proven it has no will to eradicate impunity.
The text reads that, “They won’t permit Nestora Salgado speak with her attorney, but Gordillo will face trial from home.” Salgado is an activist whose only crime was defending the rights of communities in the southern state of Guerrero.
Her altered face, after botched plastic surgeries, earned her the nickname "la Chucky", and triggered an onslaught of memes.

Ridiculous. Didn't she own (or still owns) homes in Texas and/or California that she bought with all the embezzled funds? Were these assets seized or is she at one of her luxury homes awaiting trial ?
ReplyDeleteIs mx what you think. She probably bought her "health challenges certificate" with the same stolen pesos.
DeleteMillie is that your chucky moma?? AHAHHA
This is so insane. Total hypocrisy, In other words BULL FUCKING SHIT! That stinking bitch rob and stole the guild blind, now she can go home and watch her big screen and use all the appliances and goodies she bought with stolen money. Hope she has a heart attack while choking to death. Thieving bitch.
ReplyDeleteSomeone should send a hit squad to the "comfort of her home" and torture that ugly ass satanic crooked bitch until she can no longer move.
ReplyDeleteFcking stupid retarded criminal 'justice' of mx. Perra vieja using the flaws in the justice 'system' to get away with crimes. Rules made by their same crooked legislator of 'congress' in case one of them or an asociate gets snatched like in this case. That old btch. How much did she paid that 'judge' seems like she still has the millions she stole from the students.

How does the saying go in Mexico? To my friends the protection of the law. To my enemy's the enforcement of the law. Yes, it's bull shit.
ReplyDeleteAt least she is paying for her prison, saves the country she stole from a good amount of cash ajaj
ReplyDeletePut her in the same cell as the wife of the mayor of Iguala. Like black widow spiders one will eat the other.
ReplyDeleteStand up Mexico against all these criminals -resign pena. You are no good for Mexico
ReplyDeleteZapata vive- la lucha sigue
I'm surprised she was ever charged in the first place. Wonder what happened in back rooms the led to the loss of her protection/power? They didn't just decide after over 20 years of looking the other way to enforce the law.

DeleteThe only thing I don't like about BB (and honestly the ONLY thing) is that sometimes we get sidetracked by things like this that make us angry but aren't really that important. This DOES show corruption to some extent, especially by comparison to Nestora Salgado, but I don't personally care where the trial is held as long as the trial is FAIR. Let's focus on the corruption that happens in the actual trial, and has happened in trials of other rich people, rather than nitpicking details that don't in themselves affect the outcome of the trial.
ReplyDeleteFeynman
Letting her have a trial from home, is part of the corruption....letting her free, little by little
DeleteWhat trial? Fair? It's already starting off soft!
Deletewhat a old witch
ReplyDeleteThe judge just couldn't stand to look at her with that lazy eye for the duration of the trial.
ReplyDeleteShe would be great for Obama Sec, Of Ed he loves crooked unions
ReplyDeleteIt seems to me that, humanity is losing faith on pursuing total health. We have been cowed by numerous health challenges to the point where, we are instead studying how to function in abnormalities. The general slogan in most places today is how to live with AIDS, malaria, or any other disease. Such cowardly approach and attitude can not be rewarded with insight on human triumph over sicknesses and diseases. While seeking for better ways in relieving the sick and the diseased, we should not fail to embark on continuous research, so as Golo Diet Meal Plan uncover the truth which will forever empower humans to triumph over sicknesses and diseases.
