New Indictments Against Sinaloa Cartel in the Wake of Flores Twins' Sentencing

AP Photo by Charles Rex Arbogast
In the wake of a 14 year prison sentence being given to the Flores twins, who were first indicted in 2009, came the announcement that United States officials in Chicago had issued an eighth superseding indictment to that initial 2009 case targeting the Sinaloa Cartel, as well as three new indictments.

The superseded indictment lists nine defendants:
    • Joaquín Archivaldo "El Chapo" Guzmán Loera, who is currently in Mexican custody
    • Jesús Alfredo "Jags" Guzmán Salazar, 31 years old, a son of "El Chapo"
    • Ismael "El Mayo" Zambada Garcia
    • Heriberto "Capi Beto" Zazueta Godoy, 54 years old
    • Victor Manuel "El Lic Vicc" Felix Beltran, 27 years old
    • Jesus Raul "Trevol" Beltran Leon, who is in Mexican custody, 31 years old
    • Hector Miguel "Mv" Valencia Ortega, 33 years old
    • Jorge Mario "Choclos" Valenzuela Verdugo, 32 years old
    • Guadalupe "Don Julio" Fernandez Valencia, 54 years old

Charges are pending on the following, who were all listed as defendants on previous versions of this indictment: 44 year old Felipe "El Inge" Cabrera Sarabia, currently in Mexican custody, German Olivares (apparently referring to Germán Magaña Pasos, who used that name as an alias as well as "El Paisa"), and 27 year old Edgar Manuel "Fox" Valencia Ortega, who is currently in custody in Chicago awaiting a status hearing on February 19.

Also listed in previous versions of the indictment were 39 year old Jesus Vicente "El Vicentillo"
Zambada Niebla and 45 year old Tomas Arevalo Renteria, who have both plead guilty and are awaiting sentencing, and 59 year old Alfredo Vasquez Hernandez, who received a 22 year old prison sentence in November following a guilty plea.

As for the new indictments, 38 year old Alvaro "Panda" Anguiano Hernandez and 38 year old Jorge Martin Torres are defendants charged with being money launderers for the Sinaloa Cartel. Jorge Martin Torres is specified as having purchased a 1982 Cessna Turbo 210 that was refurbished and transferred from Ohio to Mexico. Each of them were arrested in the United States at different times in November of last year

The third indictment was issued against 26 year old Elgin, Illinois resident Venancio "Benny" Covarrubias on narcotics importation and distribution conspiracy charges. He was arrested in October of last year.

  1. Does anyone have info on this guy Mario Choclos. If he comes from a established family or just a desmadroso. He has the attention of the feds, so is he a big player? What's his story

    2. Thanks, that makes sense. Why is he named in this indictment linked to chapo and mayo but no indictment on Damaso? Strange how all this stuff works, or how the feds make the connections

    3. Yeah people going to get indicted by the federal goverment for being desmadroso.

    4. )Damaso)Currently he is considered the successor of Joaquín Guzmán in the Sinaloa Cartel. Even though Mexico does not have any arrest warrant against him, in the United States he faces an indictment for money laundering and cocaine distribution.

In June 2014 Carlos Loret de Mola said in his column published in EL UNIVERSAL that Dámaso was the successor of "El Chapo" after his capture on February 22. According to the weekly "Zeta", that López Núñez and El Mayo Zambada fight for the territory in Baja California Sur.

Unlike his son, nicknamed "El Mini Lic", who flaunts his flamboyant lifestyle on social networks and has several "corridos" on his name, López Núñez is discrete. Media from Sinaloa have reported that he has been seen in El Dorado, where he owns properties and where his father was part of the government in 2007.

    5. @11:33 the federal government indictes whoever catches their attention the most, not necessarily the most crucial players in criminal organizations. So yes, the government will go after guys it can use to make an example of. So yes, flashy narcos are much more likely to catch the eye of the feds than a guy who lays relatively low and minds his business. It's the same for criminals in the u.s and it sure is the case with criminals in Mexico.

    6. To know the truth, everyone should read about Damaso... you always know there's a government connection... Well...
He was in charge of Puente grande and resigned his position 3 months prior to Chapo's "escape". His son, mini lic, baptized by Chapo... That family has been in politics since his father... Chapo, Mayo and all low level guys are just ponds in this billion dollar generating game. Where is the money? Follow that trail and you'll find who is really moving the ponds, there's a lot of layers to go through before you get to the truth.

  3. With this new indictment, there is another reason for US to request 'Chapo' be extradited.

Don't hate on your comrades because you got caught. Take your lumps and move on. You know the game when started this shit so be a man and do your time.

    3. Irregardless of who I have met or may not have met the facts are that the mighty CDS players are saling each other out. I too could careless but I find this very comical considering all of the corridos and comments written about the CDS and it's immortality. It's not hate but rather "I told you so" kinda moment. This CDS infighting is like a real life novela.
