In the last four years
the production of heroin in Mexico has surpassed marijuana.
Marijuana entities have
given way to the poppy, the precursor opium gum and heroin, a more addictive
drug and yielding higher profits for Mexican organized crime
groups trafficking into the United States.
In the United States about 28 grams of marijuana cost about 400 dollars, one gram of heroin would be worth $ 225, according to the U.N. World Drug Report 2014. (I elected to publish different figures than the article and in checking with UNDR they also have the price published differently than Reforma )

In Chihuahua, Guerrero,
Jalisco, Durango, Sinaloa and Oaxaca states leading producers of marijuana, the
army located between 2007 and 2010 a total of 432, 561 of marijuana fields.
For 2011-2014, that
number dropped by 56 percent with the discovery of 187,056 crops by soldiers.
Official data of the
Secretariat of National Defense (SEDENA) indicate that the location of poppy
crops phenomenon replaced the marijuana plantations. Between 2007 and 2010, the Army reported 272,459
discoveries of poppy crops in those six states. But for the period 2011-2014
the military began to find their land tours and reconnaissance flights over
poppy fields, a total of 427, 229 plantations, an increase 56 percent to the
previous period.
United States has suffered
from this reversal of production. Between 2007 and 2013, the number of heroin
addicts almost doubled, going from 161k users to 289 000, according to the
agency Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA, its
acronym in English) and released in May by the DEA.
The alert was also
reflected in deaths from heroin overdoses. Data from the Centers for Disease
Control in the United States established that deaths from drug use increased
from the 200,402 deaths in 2007 to 800,260 deaths in 2014.
"The DEA is
targeting cartels producing and trafficking heroin in the EU." said the
administrator of the Drug Enforcement Chuck Rosenberg in a statement while
releasing the May 22 report.
Even though Guerrero remains first in greatest
poppy production, Chihuahua has increased the most, tripling its crops in
the past four years.

ReplyDeleteCorrelation doesn't equal causation. The opiate addiction crisis was not caused by the cartels. It was caused by Purdue Pharma, the original makers of OxyContin. The cartels were merely filling a demand for cheaper opiates, because oxycontin on the street is very expensive compared to heroin. 4 out of every 5 heroin users started with OxyContin. OxyContin deaths also happen at a 5 to 1 ratio of heroin users. Purdue Pharma consistently lied about how addicting it's painkiller was, at some points saying that less than one percent of consistent users become addicted and that there wasn't a buzz. Of course, unstead of sending these liars to jail for starting one of the biggest opiate epidimics of our time, they fine them 600 million dollars. Compare that to Mexican drug lords who are sent to prison for 20+ years, often times in solitary. And people say that the US isn't corrupt?
Since the DEA just moved OxyContin to a schedule II drug it should be harder for doctors to write unneeded scripts so this epidimic should slowly fade away.

Oxys, roxies, chiva etc is in the streets and its never going away. THERE i'sn enough cops to arrest all the bums in san francisco.
DeleteI live in Sarasota Florida which is bout 45 min from Tampa. Oxycontin is now made in a form that can't be snorted, smoked, or injected. The pill imprint is usually an OP. The most widely used pill is oxycodone hydrochloride or commonly called blues. Here in Florida they go for a dollar a milligram so a blue which is 30mgs goes for $30. They are still everywhere here so don't think that its slowing down. The fact is that addicts can now get a $20 bag of heroin to last most of the day whereas a pill head needs hundreds a day depending on how many they need so let's just say the world is fucked and its never gunna get better. Only worse
DeleteInteresting. I was Rx'd 20 mg Oxycodone QID p-l-u-s 30-mg oral morphine BID. I was on the Rx over a year. The MD was careful, counting pills per monthy visit. I never disappointed him. When I came back to Mexico I flat out quit. A little nervous a little sweaty for 3-4 days. No biggie. Now FOUR YEARS without 1-mg of opioids. This does not sit well with people who insist opioid addiction is almost impossible to handle. The claim is absurd
DeleteI agree . All are sinister evil bastards . They should be held accountable . Never will be . I think Pennsylvania avenue should be lined with gallows on each side leading up to the white house to deal with all these corrupt sell out SOB's and the devils they sell out to.
DeleteCouldn't agree with you more on everything you said about 'Big Pharma' so whos the real cartel?Maybe the Mexican Cartels should get a licence so they can go 'legal'.
DeleteEveryone is made different. Tolerance levels. Addiction levels. Just because it worked for you does not mean it works for everyone. The mind, the soul, the body, surroundings, friends, family members, support all play a role
Delete7:57 PM No pain killers in mexico that must suck
DeleteMost individuals I see in the UK using methadone/phyceptone-type opioids daily as a maintenance substitute for heroin will never come off them [opiates in general], practically speaking. Once lifestyle factors are factored in it's more likely they will die younger. It's a ruthless addiction, even seeping into bone marrow and tissues. There are people who've kicked it but that's the exception not the rule, especially when 100ml daily is a typical dose prescribed.
DeleteCuz u didn't do enough bro. I was doing between 6 to 10 blues a day. That's 30mgs each. When I quit cold turkey I didn't sleep for 4 days. My mind and body were so drained. Restless legs were terrible. My father is a Dr. n he got me sedatives to sleep n it didn't help. I also sat on toilet back n forth all day. So yea bro it is very hard to quit. Its physical and mental withdrawal and heroin is worse. U weren't on them long enough or didn't take very many. But everyone who truly does or did them will say ur full of shit cuz the withdrawals are terrible
Delete757 i did the same, no worse than a cold. Excuses.
Delete7:36 dude why lie? Are you an idiot? it is a terrible kick, the legs are the worse, burning, restless "kicking"
Delete'''No worse than a cold'
DeleteI think everyone here who reads that comment will agree your talking out your arse.Your very attitude shows you don't know shit 'excuses'and most probably lying..Blow it out your srse ye bellend..Do you poke fires with your dick?Rambo,,don't do it,don't lie, again
Stop it bro y don't you jus forget about da kick bro u did good u kicked da habit now get over it pal
DeleteThere are pain killers in mexico, aspirinas, mejorales, conmel, and speed pills, and downers, over the counter, by the pill, $0.30 peso each...
Delete--if you are trying to get fancy with oxy and shit it gets more.expensive, but since the mexican FDA is cheaper to buy, there are some nice surprises in mexican pharmacies, silicones, uppers, downers, yombinas, Spanish fly...candles...
Pura amopolita. White ceiling in spanish.
ReplyDeleteA lot of the pain killer junkies are now doing heroin because it's cheaper than pills. Just make the heroin More pure and let the junkies DIE. Heroin is going to kill them anyway , it's one of the most addictive drugs and it costs a lot of money to provide the o.d drugs. Simply don't start using and you will never be a junkie!
ReplyDeleteThere's a lot of people that would love to get heroin.but it's not available in every small town.so they keep doing the pills like opana.they cost140 dollars for the best ones. There's a lot of room for growth in the heroin market.
DeleteWhere can you get aktedron today? Or benzedrine? 0.40 pesos each, a can of monster or red bull, 5.00 dollah's.
Deletereatest poppy sales in Laredo, Texas with Mexican Mafia
ReplyDeleteLos cuetes tambien tienen en laredo
DeleteSome of these figures seem off....25 grams of pot is worth way more than $15-$20 even wholesale and DEA usually uses retail figures.....3.5 grams of weed is an '8th' and is $50........also 800,000 deaths from drugs in one year sounds high....I don't think that close to a million people died of herion in one year...I think that figure includes all drugs including alcohol
ReplyDeleteWe're talking about mexican skunk weed. Not some medical grade strain.
DeleteDude 50$ an 8th your talking about kush weed or dro, not commercial Mexican bud. That commercial is 30-40$ an ounce.
DeleteSay we been off that reggie since 2007 yall boys way behind we 10 a g all day long oak cliff D town we getting it in Texas got them prices
DeleteWell you must factor in poor Mexican mathematics. The first inconsistency is the interdiction rate, it should be 43 percent, not 56. The increase of poppy fields based from the last data collection would be 1.56 times the previous. The increase in addicts is 48%, just under doubling. A matter of 33,000 people. Now, the death over doses are based on a 7 years term, not a one year spike. The most interesting number is the overdose rate during those 7 years. Nearly 600,000 people total over seven years. Giving an average of 85,700 people per year have died of Heroin over dose in the US since 2007. A small number compared to total population of the US at 318.9 million. Or approximately .00372 of the US population.
DeleteAs far as the the cost of the splif, don't bother with the Mexican brand, shop around. There are twenty states that offer leniency towards marijuana. There are numerous products that offer alternatives to smoking. Do the math, you'll come out ahead.
I think that's for seven years.
DeleteDallas is where we play.
DeleteThe entire metroplex on fire. Chihuahua and Texas something else. We about that life.
Deleteyeah, lucio said the same thing, but this is what reforma reported.
ReplyDeleteAside from price, which are wholesale and not DEA, there is no dispute that mota production is slipping fast. I personally think the motivator is the legalization of MJ in the US and it makes good business to prepare now.
Agreed.....only 2 states have full legality (Colorado and Washington) and the rest of the country is already flooded with weed from those two states.....I live in the mid west and it mostly comes from Colorado here now.....and the market is for the high grade stuff I alluded to at $50 an 1/8......I haven't seen ditch weed this far north is a long long time....no market for it
DeleteDesigner's grifa is for putos, and sure enough they can pay for it, "medical"...
Delete--real men will smoke the cheapest pot, illegal, for the hell of it, even if they can afford "medical" shit the system allows...
Weed is pretty much legal in the U.S. In California you can go to a doctor give him 200 bucks and get a growers permit.
ReplyDeleteNot really.. The majority of states it is still illegal.. There is still a ton of money to be made selling weed.
DeleteBut the writing is on the wall. It's only a matter of time before it is legal nation wide...
The cartels know this so they are adjusting just like any legal business would adjust if they knew a major source of their revenue would be gone in 5-10 years.
Not really its decriminalized in most states. And in states like Washington and Colorado its big business. Are you in the United States? If so what state.
DeleteGiving tickets, arrests, fines for possession without prescription and without medical container IS Big Business for some police departments, not "federal cases", but municipal court is not cheap either...
Delete--if you wanna argue with the judge, "take it to the judge", I hope he sends you to the pound.
There is also the greater difficulties of getting mm across the border that has led to an increase in in country illegal production
ReplyDeleteWell i could see the ounce of that mexican weed being 25 dollars in 1998 the half oz was 20 dollars now that there is all that medical weed the only market for that compressed weed is mid west and east coast
ReplyDeleteThere is no market for compressed weed on east coast. High grade marijuana flows down from Canada @ roughly $3000 a pound retail. @ least that is what's happening here in New York.
DeleteNot many smoke crap weed on the east coast nor use tar heroine (it's China white territory). Too much money on this side & they don't buy low quality anything. Except maybe South Carolina ...
ReplyDeleteChicago used to be all china/afghan. Now it is all black tar/black tar mixes.
DeleteOk you east coast folks are too classy for Mexican heroin .LOL . It is very simple to make the shit white . I fuckin high headed heroin addict LOL LOL LOL .
DeleteNot really funny though . I hate drugs and all that they do to people
ya cheese toast foolios were stuck on bammer until the Best Coast showed ya'll how its done....GTFO
DeleteBath salts will be the next epidemic. They can mimic most drugs at a fraction of the price. Once they ban a certain brand, the chemist changes a couple of molecules and it's legal. There are thousands of possible combinations to play with.
ReplyDeleteIf you paid 400 for an ounce of green , you have gotten screwed my friend! It is safer than heroin to say the least . This article saddens me when I begin to think about all the new heroin addicts . Addiction is a horrible disease.
ReplyDeleteAgreed bro,it is insidious and eats the time and health we naturally have..Scary shit,,a sentence..
DeletePot is addictive too, fools deny it, but many other fools die and kill or go to prison for it, "but it is not addictive" because pushers say so...
Delete"Not addictive" they said that to little red riding hood, she had to find out...
Delete--After all this time she is still trying to find out...
Here in the middle east, one gram of pure heroin costs 20$..a decent quality heroin costs 6$ per gram
ReplyDelete200 for a gram of pure brown ?
DeleteThe main difference now is quality, people who are buying as little as 8ths or quarter Ozs cut it themselves to sell in bags, pure shit
Weed doesn't make you ball up in the fetal position, needing more, rob your momma...or sell your body to anyone, who would offer you a dime.It "heroin" has certainly has made it's face known, in my small rural town, so has the crime rate.
ReplyDeleteSteal your mommas purse or rob church collection boxes, and the candles..You kno it makes sense
DeleteEn la sierra de chihuahua de paga 20,000 pesos el kilo de goma por eso están sembrando mas.
ReplyDeleteIn Texas, mexican brick goes for $50-60 an oz, around 400/lb. Medical grade kush/dro goes around $50/8th .
ReplyDeleteDamn those price estimates are all over the board . I bet the best black market weed , with a decent connection would bring about $120 a ounce , with a good connection less . Now that California dispensary weed would cost much more because they put it in glass and are much classier . LOL grade a Mexican weed will probably fetch from $400 to 1500 per pound here in the usa depending on seller and buyer and geography . Last knowledge I had in the Rio Grand Valley was $300 per pound if you were local and connected .
ReplyDelete$400 an oz is expensive for high grade from america or Canada. Mexican weed shouldn't cost more than $90 an oz anywhere in America, and more than likely will be half that...
ReplyDelete6 macetas , 2 years, out in 6 months...
ReplyDeleteSo much for decriminalization and not prosecuting grifa possession as a federal crime...
--Pendejos, read the law, read the small print, or you will be forking the butt in prison for 2 cigarettes per week, per customer to supplement your prison pay of 30 cents a week and begging mon for some quarters for the payphones, he he heee, and more he he hee...
--drug addicts are stupid pendejos, greedy bastards get rich at their expense...pendejos...
It's worth noticing that the dropoff in marijuana production by the cartels coincides with legalization in the US.
ReplyDeleteMake into shatter and ship less
ReplyDeleteHugs not drugs....... There is no such thing as medical marijuana.....it's the same as. A black market dealer 10 years ago. The only medical about it is the price. Just go for a workout and get the true natural high. As with any drug, Once the tolerance goes up, so does the intake.
ReplyDeleteIt's worth noticing that the decrease in marijuana production among cartels coincides pretty cleanly with legalization in USA
ReplyDeleteWhy would I spend a penny on some dirty ass smuggled brick shit when I can choose my strain of kind bud way cheaper right next door?
ReplyDeleteBut legalizing mj the coke, black tar heroine, and white China is making a great comeback that means more violence guns more people going to prison for a long time no more money to be made with mj so the cartels are going back old school in the states mj was not that bad u get caught u will see day light not with them other things u will be gone for a min!
ReplyDelete
