Zeta plaza boss "El Fresa" shanked to death in Topo Chico Jail with 11 others wounded

Translated by Otis B Fly-Wheel for Borderland Beat from a Proceso article

Recommendation: No prior subject matter knowledge required]

Reporter: Zeta Redaction
Monterrey N.L: A zeta plaza boss was assassinated with home made prison type knives (shanks) on Thursday night in the Topo Chico prison, during a riot in which 11 other prisoners were also injured, informed the Government of Nuevo Leon.

Mario Alberto Roldan Zuniga, "El Fresa", 32 years of age, originally from Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, he was the zeta plaza boss in this town, and was detained in February of this year, for possession of drugs and fire arms in San Nicolas, the town from where he operated.

The capo contested charges of kidnapping. It has been suggested that "El Fresa" gave up information that assisted in the capture, in the town of San Pedro, this March, of Omar Trevino Morales, "El Z-42", alleged leader of the group in Mexico.

According to an official source, the riot broke out at 21:00 giving rise to the death of "El Fresa" and the injury of 11 others, whose injuries are not thought to be life threatening, although they were sent for evaluation to the University Hospital.

The forensic medical staff that attended found that Roldan Zuniga had more that ten stab puncture wounds. They did not give out information on where inside the old prison the riot had broken out.

The prisoners who were wounded were identified as:

  • Arturo Eguia Gaitan
  • Juan Daniel Martinez Munoz
  • Juan de la Rosa Orozco
  • Mario Hernandez Mendez
  • Ricardo Jesus Flores Lerma
  • Edgar Armardo Lopez Martinez
  • David Lara Quinones
  • Juan Jose Cortes Lara
  • Martin Uriel Macias Guzman
  • Javier Andres Soto Alvarado
  • Jose Gerardo Salinas Gutierrez
The penitentiary authorities informed the families of the men involved in the events. they also advised that already they had transferred ten prisoners to prisons of Apodaca and Cadereyta to prevent new confrontations. The State Government said that the situation inside the prison had returned to normal.

The Citizens Association in support of Human Rights, lamented the tragic events of the riot and reproached the State Government, for failing in the constitutional mandate to organize the prison system on the basis of respect for human rights, and guarantee the life and safety of the prisoners.

"It is not the first time that violent deaths have occurred inside Topo Chico, it is urgent that they take steps to transform from bottom to top the organization and administration of the centre, with the goal of achieving their mission of social re adaption of those under their care, with a constant mark of respect in regards of human rights.

    6. at 11.43 am , good question. I suspect it has to do with the data protection laws in Mexico. USA and Europe and other countries have much stricter laws.

  6. I thought it was wierd a Z got killed in that prison every one knows the penal in topo chico is all Z and the one in apodaca is all CDG internal beef makes sense I guess I know that the Z charge a quota if u are not a Z or they beat you and and do not let you eat etc.....my cousins say it's calmed down so even if Z are in monterrey they ain't with that bull shit like they used to be i know la policía rual was going into la indepe shooting Z on sight last I heard also that chapo people which might just be CJNG cleaning up the plaza as well

    2. Apodaca and Topo Chico is 100% Z same as most of the state of Nuevo León specialy the southern area of Monterrey like La Independencia is 100%Z

That's what I thought..Apodaca,is where many Z from Nuevo León are sent, and they basically run Apodaca ?

    4. Logistically speaking CJNG would have hell cleaning out Zeta owned plazas whether it's Nuevo León or Coahuila. It would take a lot of manpower to cause any real damage to the Z. Even with the most legendary Zetas dead or in prison they still have the home court advantage. Wishful thinking though.

  8. Very interesting. If he really did give authorities the location of Z42 this is conformation that the Zetas are fractured and not as big as they were. In the Zetas beforehand and CDS now plaza bosses don't report to the boss. They report to the capo's lieutenants but if a Zetas plaza boss knows where the capo is than the Zetas are not very big!

  9. Trust me baby, this is all narco-political assassination, el fresa knew too much about z42 and his zeta connections to monterrey and Nuevo 'Lion' politicians...
--The 'FACT' that san pedro mayor Jaimeé "el bronco" Rodriguez survived 2 assassination attempts by los zetas keeps getting smellier, el bronco does not badmouth rodrigo medina or his 'scunbag' rat father anymore, because of now that he got 'electo' he has attained some strange dignity?
--The narcos need to eliminate their political associates, they do nothing but put the squeeze on them all the way to hell...

  17. Slightly Off Topic:" October 2011, the US government alleged that an Iranian-American recruited Mexican drug traffickers to kill the Saudi ambassador.

Juan Cole, a Middle East and Iran expert, wrote: 1.5 million dollars is the claimed price for killing the ambassador of the biggest petroleum reserve on the planet in the capital of the world's largest weapons manufacturer. But wait a minute, what else can 1.5 million dollars buy?.....

The gang at the center of this controversy, the ZETAS, are estimated to have an annual revenue of over 40 BILLION DOLLARS...And the 100,000 dollar down payment means just one minute of their usual time...."

    Pgs 240-241,
    IRAN AND THE UNITED STATES,
    By Seyed Hossein Mousavian,
    with Shahir ShahidSaless)

What got my attention reading this is the $40 billion said to be the Zetas yearly "income." Is this figure real? If, this is true, there's a lot more to these goons than just their Mexican operations.

    1. Estimates are usually by some gov agency and high but in 2011 it's possible...they were probably the biggest cartel or among the top two...and yeah the operations are global as hell....not too many places on earth you can't find cocaine....and it all comes from Peru Bolivia and Colombia mostly threw the Mexicans hands.....in Australia its $120,000 a kilo....in Amsterdam is close to $100,000....it's one of the worlds biggest consumer goods and we are giving it to (and creating) the worlds richest gangsters through US backed idiotic prohibition

    2. Maybe, and a biiig maybe, in pesos, about $15.00 pesos per dollar, now about
$17.00 pesos, not for nothing el taliban seceded, and took 1/2 of the zetas with him because of no pay...horses were more important to the "disciples of Napoleon" than their men, typical stay-at-home chickenhawk bullshit...

A young man often molds his mind to a criminal pathology and there is never much hope for him to change . The events like this is what they nee to know .
