Chapo is considering requesting "house arrest"

Lucio R. Borderland Beat with material from Milenio & EFE

Although Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman likes that idea of negotiating with the United States, should he be extradited, his Mexican defense is also considering the option of requesting house arrest, should an agreement with the United States not be reached, revealed the attorney José Refugio Rodríguez. The litigant who is the lead attorney of the legal team representing the Sinaloa capo, and the US attorney William Stuttgart, discussed the details of what legal way is better follow to benefit his client.

Rodriguez said that he heard "rumors" that soon the US authorities will present new charges against "El Chapo" in the District Courts of New York and Chicago, where the leader of the Sinaloa cartel will face the strongest accusations and therefore,  he would most likely be sent to one of those two states rather than California and Texas.

So far, Joaquin Guzman has not entered into a contact with  Stuttgart to represent him in US territory, said Jose Refugio; He said he and El Chapo are consulting with the attorney, and taking into account the advice of the American defense attorney.

The goal would be to negotiate "a sentence that is not too long, a reasonable sentence," with the United States, as well as imprisonment at "a medium-security prison that does not have conditions like the ones here in Mexico," Rodriguez said.

Guzman asked some time ago that an attorney be hired to represent him in the United States, Rodriguez said, adding that he contacted William Stuttgart and they have stayed in touch since May 2014.

"It's through him that we've seen that, instead of going to trial in the United States, ... we should have negotiate," Rodriguez said, noting that the defense's strategy would be to get the best possible conditions for his client instead of fighting it out in court.

    1. 11:30. My thoughts exactly. WTF? Guess he wants a sweet compound like Pablo had while he was under "house arrest". The only place I want to see him go is to Colorado to a Super Max.Considering 98% of all drug trafficers end up taking a plea deal, even if he only gets 10-15 years...it will be Hell on Earth. If he thinks he has it bad now, wait till he gets to a real freaking prison. Kmsl...poor "zombie". Grazie B.B.you gave me a great laugh. Peace. God bless.

    9. this for @ 12:15am.... the USA has 40 plus Mexican nationals already on death row and have executed countless other Mexican nationals ...it is only a diplomatic bullshit attempt at an exemption. Chapo goes To the USA he will face execution if convicted they will execute him without hesitation. He is a Hitler to them and he will die by them.

    10. I'm sure Chivis will agree with me here, that one of the stipulations in law, is that any extradition for any charges will not end in the death penalty. He may get life without parole, which would mean life but they will not be able to execute him under the current extradition treaty.

    3. Not at all. How is this even comparable to pablo? Pablo never had to face the United States the way any Mexican Narco has. Even though the USA tried to extradite PABLO, there just wasn't enough pressure in Colombia as there is now in Mx, USA's neighbor. Yet alone the 80's & early 90's were so much easier to evade authorities, technologically. 30 years later and they were having a real tough time w chapo, despite all technological advances by the American and Mexican government from the early 90's. Chapo has outlived Pablo. Pablo only ruled for a few years compared to Chapo's 2 decades and counting. Any one who has studied cartels and drug lords would know that remaining a large boss for two decades and escaping prison twice is BEYOND rare in their industry. Screw pablo & screw Chapo, even though I Admire both of their ambition and genious. But Chapo, is no imitation of pablo. He has already surpassed him, don't take my word for it. Study the facts. He isn't public enemy no. 1 in chicago for no reason...who had that title last? Oh that's right Al capone.

    4. Escobar gaviria to keep calling the shots from it's private prison? Ok.. How about you let the USA build the 'private prison' in the US side chaps, you gonna have cameras on your ass 24/7 but you gonna live better something like a rich lion in a cage, as long as you cooperate. Yeah right.. Jee Jee

    5. !0;48 Not a Escobar imitator ? Probably right ,but you can bet if he has a mind at all he had to learn something from Pablo . Much of it he may have made a point not to do . He has defiantly out lived that Columbian piece of shit .

The crazy thing is that he had no money or resources at all to help him escape from prison unlike El Chapo but he was still able to break free three times in a row LOL but he's already been in the ADX for almost 10 years & he hasn't escaped ever since

If he goes to trial and found guilty , during the sentencing phase his reputation can be addressed . Shit they can have a line up of witnesses . Can have people that say he killed their relatives . If he is convicted of heroin trafficking they can have relatives of od victims . After found guilty , if he lets a jury sentence him he will get so much time that it will only be over when he dies very old .
He will plea bargain if he can get it below 30 . If he sees no hope of walking out of prison alive he will fight it . Do they even have federal parole now ? At one time it was abolished .
Asking for a minimum security prison and then this time house arrest .Either he is joking, just dumb as hell or awfully naïve .

I have a little more respect for the capos who go down fighting to the death than a capo like Chapo who is in his 60s and has lived a long life of privilege and power and he still can't seem to get that it's over and now it's a newer generations turn.

So yeah from all these recent events surrounding Chapo I've learned he is scared of dying and prison and doesn't know when to face the music and realize it's the end of the line. He's a bit of a coward tbh.

    1. The only reason Pablo got what he wanted was because his full out war against the Colombian state was very successful. He was killing a lot of prominent politicians and police men and he was kidnapping scores of individuals he used as bargaining chips to make extradition illegal. So basically Escobar had a little thing called leverage, something this little midget doesn't seem to understand. The only leverage I can think Chapo may have is information, very nasty dirt on important politicians. But that's not as good a bargaining chip as the daily car bombs our narcoterrorist pal Escobar was using as leverage. Don't really understand what Chapo is thinking. Must be his huge ego making him think he can get house arrest lmfao. What a joke

  21. No doubt he's between a rock and a hard place. In my opinion, his best chance is to somehow game the Mexican judicial system. OJ did this in the US and it was successful. Once Chapo is home kicking back with his kids and enjoying his moms home cooking and his young wife then he will call it stale mate and retire there with federal protection acting as prison guards around his property. Fighting it out in court would reveal too many indirect drug dealers = politicians. No different than Chapo himself.

The only difference between him and the other capos is he escaped twice with bribery. So that entitles him? I think not. House arrest? Does this make sense?

A "reasonable sentence"? What the fuck it is?

Assuming that Chapo is 62, probably he intends to spend in prison no more than 10 years.
It's totally implausibile. Guzman is accused of bringing tons and tons of drugs to the US, is accused of corruption, multiple murders...if all this things could be proven he could have to deal with multiple death penalties, or at least life imprisonment.

And what about the medium-security jail? Ridicolous. Guzman is probably the world's most famous criminal, he is incredibly powerful, he has hundreds milions of dollars and a great corruptive power, and he is a master of prison breaks...no, the only jail for him in the US is the ADX Florence, which is much more terrible than Altiplano.

I think all this is mere speculative gossip. Chapo is probably desperate in this moment, but he coannot be mad up to this point.

No, there is something unclear in all this story.
