When Edgar “La Barbie”
Valdez Villarreal, was extradited to the
U.S. he raised eyebrows when he pleads guilty within a few months. For years, he vigorously fought against
extradition, only to quickly enter a plea.
For years it was
rumored that Valdez was a cooperative witness for Mexico, even prior to his
capture. Villareal denied this
allegation, even writing a letter to the public via Reforma Magazine stating
his case.
It was revealed in
pretrial hearings, Valdez will be one of the cooperative witnesses who will
testify against the man he once worked for.
Valdez is suspected of giving up information to Mexican authorities which resulted in the massive shootout and death of Beltran Leyva Organization’s leader, and Valdez’ boss. Supposedly this was so Valdez could take over the organization. He himself was arrested in 2010 and extradited in September 2015.

At the time of his 2008 arrest El Rey was considered one of the 4 leaders of Sinaloa’s Pacific Cartel. and one of the leading sources of cocaine and methamphetamine from South America.
He was extradited to the U.S. in 2012.
El Grande was once with Los Zetas/CDG but left to join BLO while BLO was still allied with the Sinaloa Cartel.

Another witness is
Harold Mauricio Poveda Ortega aka “El Conejo” a Colombian national, allegedly was the largest supplier of cocaine
to the Beltrán Leyva cartel.
It would appear the United States is giving up way too much in its deals to convict Mochomo. Perhaps it is because they have little evidence against Mochomo, but it makes little sense after years of investigative work, intelligence and tax payers money, in the end but one leader is brought to trial.
A Status Conference is scheduled for Friday, February 12, 2016, at 3:00 PM, and trial is scheduled for next Tuesday the 16th.

Will be interesting to see if he's able to walk free. He's such a big figure wit hin the drug world it's hard to imagine him being set free but at the same time they don't have any solid evidence.

DeleteHere is a quick example on how the US federal system works.. 1) you have a defendent who is ready to go to trial. 2) the US Attorney brings in everyone in the system that might know you and offers 5k1 or rule 35b sentence reductions if the testify. 3) in the federal court it only take 2 people or one piece of evidence and one person saying it was yours.. 4) = your guilty. did you do it? your still guilty..
Delete@6:13pm gets it. There are many innocent people sitting behind bars in America because the system is overwhelmingly biased against any defendant. There's this implicit assumption that if the police have worked hard to arrest and get a defendant to a courtroom they are pretty much guilty. Gathering and showing evidence is just a formality. In fact a few witness testimonies are usually enough to convince a jury or judge because there is this implicit trust in police work. If the cops think you are guilty everyone else will sort of agree.

DeletePlea deals are also cheaper for taxpayers. Who foot the bill for trials and the inevitable appeals that follow when the defendant is found guilty.
It's not a surprise they cut so many deals. It doesn't necessarily mean they gave up too much and overplayed their hand.
It could be El Rey, La Barbie and El Grande don't have much choice and any deal is better than no deal for them.
Leyva didn't cut a plea deal so the Feds are going to nail his ass to the wall now.
Mochomo has not been offered a plea, has he?

In the third world of Mexico, only two people out of every 100 arrested are ever sent to prison and the other 98 are found innocent due to "lack of evidence". When these thugs get extradited here they know they're done for and are quickly ratting on their fellow members to get reduced time whereas in Mexico they knew that they would soon get released & no testifying against their gang was unthinkable.

DeleteThis reminds me of when I was in county and there were 5 co-defendents from sinaloa. They first caught one and he snitched on the rest, they all snitched on each other but were cool about it. What was strange was they figured they messed up because they incriminated each other but were going to go to trial and tell the judge and the jury that the cops tricked them into snitching on each other. They were looking at 20 years and up if they lost the trial but 10 years if they took the plea. They wanted the judge to lower the plea deal but the judge didn't because they gave the prosecuter more than enough informatión on each other for prosecution. Poor guys...

ReplyDeleteI love reading how everyone assume these guys are getting sweet deals for testifying. For those unfamiliar with law let me give you an example. One would be instead of life without parole, they would get life with the possibility of parole in a certain number of years. What these dumb criminals fail to realize is their crimes are brought up again at a parole board meeting. Usually the parole board is harder to convince and they wind up serving most if not all of their 20 year sentence. Second to note is they are looking at several charges each. Each with a sentence that would be applied to it. So a DA can agree to drop one of the charges or promise a reduced sentence(that might be applied to only one charge.) If a judge says they are to serve their sentences consecutively, that deal means little or nothing. Also keep in mind the DA can make whatever deals he wish, however, a judge is under no obligation to acknowledge them if he deems the person a menace and a risk to society. So to say swwet deal is wrong. There are way too many hands involved in these supposed sweet deals that usually burn these guys in the end. They just see the possibility of seeing the light of day again opposed not seeing it. Most likely they all will do at least 15 years minimum. Each charge gets an amount of years applied. It adds up in the end.
