Ziracuaretiro, Michoacán— The aftermath of an ambush left at least three policemen dead and eight more wounded when they were opened fire by armed men at the exit of the municipality of Ziracuaretiro along the highway to Uruapan.

The incident took place around 18:00 hours at the height of the gas station El Fresno.

There, members of the Michoacán Police who were patrolling were gunned down by armed civilians.

After the incident, paramedics from the Red Cross, Civil Protection and of Search and Rescue were mobilized to the site.

Shortly after, a strong operation was implemented by the Mexican Army, federal police, and Ministerial Michoacán Police to find those responsible.

The bodies of the fallen policemen were sent to the Forensic Medical Service of Uruapan, 15 minutes from the incident, and to private hospitals in the same area.

  1. During my travels through Mexico, I often wondered how vulnerable and exposed those officers in the back of the truck were to attack. It seemed that they just stuck out like easy targets.

  2. Police steal from poor citizens, do not allow armed citizens to defend themselves so, they deserve to be shot just like all politicians should be shot on sight.

  10. Well, 10 000 more police officers to go, may have been the army, or the marinas, since the narcs and the cartels never win one...

  11. This is what happens in a real ambush, unlike all the others which are reported where the police don't take a scratch but scores of cartel are taken out..

This day I have helping with Ingles. The bad policia son del estado Michoacan. PJE policias. The policias municipios do not go like those guys por camioneta. The policias estatal do not like that. The SSP go in convoyes porque ambusquedas. So maybe it is PJE who get kiled this time. Pruebas who kiled them is for fools. The PJE have all peoples as enemys. Carteleros, SSP, rurales, todos. But this problem is alimento politico the gobernacion Michoacanero is to put blame in their enemys, cierto o no. They are to say doctor Mireles have these peoples do this. El Asunto actual es de no importe. Que pobrecito Michoacan.

  20. I frequent this blog often, for a coupleasure of years now. sometimes multiple times a day. Good stories, good articles and most often than not good comments. Great work by all the BB staff, it is much appreciated. And even more so knowing they are not getting paid one cent but do it for the love of journalism and to help inform others...I'd like to comment on the matter of how our brothers up north always tend to call the brothers from el sur especially Michoacan & Guerrero
Ugly, indios etc...the funny thing is 99% of the time a comment like that is made its made by a dude! Mas putos no pueden ser. Bola de envidiosos, racistas a su propia sangre. I guess the brothers from up North have an anglo-Saxon lineage. Somos los mismos, no mas que en Michoacan se Dan los huevos mas grande.

    1. Tienes toda la razon vale. There is a lot of ignorance and envy in Mexicans unfortunately. One cannot fix, argue or negotiate with an ignorant person. We must simply ignore them. Saludos de Michoacán a usted carnal y a toda la de mas gente inteligente de Mexico.

    2. I'm from Michoacan and I know alot of people from up north that think they are superior to me because I'm from the south. Don't listen to them it's just ignorance. I'm 6"2 and light skinned when they say ALL from Michoacan are indios and short.. . Most are all talk and no action when you get in their face. My girl is from chihuahua and at first her family looked down on me but now they respect me because they know how i am. Had to get on a few of her relatives faces that thought they were tough guys but now its cool. They still don't Like me but they learned to respect me and that's cool with me. Like I said, the only people with that mentality are just ignorant.

    4. I think your generalization of the "people up north" is what is ignorant. Im from Sinaloa and my best friends are from Michoacan and Guerrero. There is ignorance and intolerance in all of society, but as soon as we practice this ignorance and intolerance we become part of it and we become the problem. When I see a fellow Mexican I dont see an enemy I see a paisano a brother somebody I can identify with. If I see this paisano in trouble I step in to help and Im confident that if I was the one in need mi paisano me va a ayudar. Somos hermanos, somos Mexicanos.

    5. Brother from sinaloa. Read the first comment again....it's true, the majority of the raza from up North feel that way. C'mon carnal, if you read these posts often you'll see for yourself. I'm just stating the truth...and I too feel this way ("when I see a fellow mexican I don't see an enemy I see a paisano") no matter which remote corner of Mexico they are from.
      Arriva Michoacan, y los Raiders.

    6. 10:10 it is not ignorant, I have been around people from sonora, sinaloa, and chihuahua. There is some cool people but alot of them have a misconception about people from the south. They call them indios and just talk bad about them . I was locked up and there were people from Sonora, Chihuahua, and Sinaloa. People from sonora didn't like people from Chihuahua, people from Chihuahua didn't like people from sinaloa, and people from sinaloa didn't like people from chihuahua. people from Chihuahua and Sonora didn't like people from michoacan, Chiapas, Oaxaca.. when ever there was a Mexican the paisas would ask were they were from, if they were from sinaloa , sonora or Chihuahua they were cool with them. If they happened to be from the south they would try and pick on them and later would ignore them like if they wasn't Mexican. While the whole time they were kissing each other's ass eventhough they didn't like each other. I've been in other situations that proove my point. There is even a joke about Mexicans that goes like this.. two Fisher men were out catching fish in the U. S, after they caught a few crabs one told the other to close the bucket because they were going help each other to get out. Later they were in Mexico and after a few crabs the guy remembered what the other guy said about closing the bucket so the crabs won't climb out. The other guy said " don't worry about closing the bucket on these crabs from Mexico, one's they see one allmost make it to the top, onother crab will take him down" sad but true
