Sinaloa: Grandmother fights to use Cannabidiol, to treat her grandson's seizures

Lucio R. Borderland Beat

Culiacan, Sinaloa.-  The life of Jesus Gael Ayon Palomino  took a radical change when the three-year-old began suffering seizures.

The first effects of the seizures left weakness in his body and difficulty walking.

Later he lost his eye sight.  Since the seizures began, the child has suffering from a degenerative process in his  body.

Gael, seven years old, was a child who loved to be in the company of his cousins, his  friends and family, and enjoyed  doing outdoor activities, such as running or cycling, making it painful for his family to witness how it is now  impossible for him to enjoy those activities.

Desperate

For a month the child has been in intensive therapy at Regional Hospital No. 1 IMSS, and  has been in a medically induced coma three times, so far,  because his seizures become uncontrollable, this despite the fact he is provided  various anti-seizure medications, they continue and stopping them becomes  impossible.

"The doctors prefer to induce coma, because there is no medicine to take effect on him," said his grandmother 52 year old Teresita de Jesus Becerra, who desperately sought the support of different doctors so they can successfully treat her grandson so that he is able to have a better quality of life and return home to be surrounded by his family.

The child is on a ventilator, and hospital personnel say it is difficult to transfer him to another hospital where specialists in these conditions can give an accurate diagnosis.  The grandmother still does not know what is causing the seizures or what condition is causing them.  She has only been told "seizures are difficult to control", without further explanation.
Mayela Benavides changes her daughter Grace after bathing her in their home in Monterrey, Mexico, orace suffers from Lennox Gastaut Syndrome, a severe form of epilepsy, she is barred from trying cannabidiol (NYT)

Cannabidiol
So in the fight to help Jesus Gael, his  mother and grandmother have  found a possible solution… cannabidiol, a component found in the plant of marijuana and has been proven in many cases to be successful against seizures.

Teresita has sought contact with doctors working with this substance, but there is a process required by  the authorities of the state and nation must follow before the law can provide the use of drugs containing this herb.

"I want my child to be assessed by one of these doctors, having them  say if cannabidiol is suitable for Gael",  says Teresita, who called on the state governor to pay attention to the case. And to ensure that the family is supported by the authorities, Gael  a Sinaloense,  would be the first child to have a treatment based on this plant.

Although doctors who have taken the case of Jesus Gael do not expect him to live a long life, his grandmother says she clings to the hope and possibility of  better living conditions and to watch him improve.

Meanwhile, the family of little Gael  hope that the authorities in Sinaloa become interested in the case of Jesus Gael and assist him, as well as dozens of children who are in the same situation and that lack of resources.

  2. Cannabidiol is gotten now from specialized plants that contain minimal quantities of thc, the component that gets mariguanos "high", I don't see what is the problem, with medical grifa, other than addicts jut want to smoke their grifa for the thc content, which is NOT MEDICINAL, and the pushers want to sell it because the $ MONEY $ IS medicinal and an afrodisiac to them.
--I would be happy with just the "Canna" component, 110 kilos of it, i mean, pounds...

    4. This is a story about a child in need of help. It can also open people eyes about the medicinal use of marijuana and the good it can possibly do in this situation. Who cares where he is from. If that was my child I would not wait for the government to give me the OK to use it...as much marijuana that is grown in Sinaloa I would find some and figure out a way to extract what I need from it for my child to get better..

  4. As a person who lives in Colorado, has cancer, and uses it as medication I can say the plant is a miracle drug. It should be legal everywhere. I work in the industry here as well and I have seen it stop a seizure first hand.

    1. You are living in the center of the civilized universe, as far as marijuana is concerned. Hopefully in November you will be joined by 38 million Californians, and next spring by 35 million Canadians. Prohibitionists, your shameful persecution of mostly hard-working decent people will not last much longer.

    2. Smoking grifa makes no one decent, and obviously, smoking medicinal grifa for the thc and without being sick is una pinchi pendejada gigante, grifa addicts are just their pushers sitting ducks, and that is most of the reason for pushing grifa smoking as a civilized passtime of the basket cases.
--I do not give a rat's ass about the addicted or their pushers, just saying it as I see it, if grifa was "so good" nobody would be selling his stash or giving the moustache away for one toke...

    3. Medical marijuana is one thing, but it has been my EXPERIENCE that hard working decent people don't do drugs for very long, and remain hard working and decent.

    4. Nobody quits smoking grifa, they are traitor chaqueteros that got another pusher and they need a good ass kicking or worse.
They can also pay me a cuota and be good as soon and as long as I get my money...

  6. Everyone that says that in Sinaloa people don't steal and shit are dead wrong! I, was just told by a co worker of mine that he recently decided to travel to Mazatlan Sinaloa for vacation and he happened to book a hotel stay through some "agency" over there. He payed everything with a credit card as instructed by the agent helping him and left for Sinaloa. Upon arrival he called the agent and was told to enjoy the beach and sights before checking into the Hotel. When he finally decided to stop by the hotel he was told that he was not registered and even his truck outside was stolen from him. He was pennyless and left to find somehwere to stay along with his family on his own. He had to call family members in both Mexico and this country so they could send monney to help them out. This is after the killings that Sinaloa narcos commit daily if someone should decide to argue with them! Fuckin Sinaloenses and nuthuggers paint Sinaloa as a paradise with no crime and this is bullshit!

    1. Sinaloenses are always quick to point to michoacan and tamaulipas as "violent and out of control" and "sicarios from sinaloa don't mess with innocent people" but the fact is that there is no such thing as drug addicted sicarios with regards or respect for human life when they take lives. Also sinaloa is always on the top 3 when it comes to killings. Real spit

    2. A couple in cd Juarez was just shot and killed this past week by unknown sicarios also simply because of a moving vehicle altercation the couple had with them. Sicarios do not think twice abput killing even innocents simply because they are always armed to the teeth and if a "fender bender" or anything of the sorts is going to cause the cops to show up and quite possibly discover them and arrest them then they would rather kill any witnesses and leave. Especially bolsterous and or upset witnesses that may cause a scene of sorts leading officers to arrive sooner. This is common in Sinaloa from what I, understand.

    3. Cannabis is NOT an addictive substance. No matter the level of THC.
You will never die or go through withdrawal symptoms if you quit using. Even if you use it for years.
Unlike, nicotine, alcohol, cocaine, meth, and heroin..... Cannabis is not an addictive substance.
