Statistics indicate that kidnapping in Mexico is on the rise. Most of those do not have a happy ending.
Filemón is an exception that. He was the victim of a kidnapping in Motul, Yucatán. After his disappearance his companion and friend, Gilberth Canul Cupul, received a demand via the mobile phone application WhatsApp for a ransom of 1,000 pesos for his return.
The kidnapper began at 1,000 pesos and then reduced his demand to 500. “I offered him 300, then 400, but he didn’t want it,” said Canul.
So he reported the crime to local authorities and began searching for the missing donkey.

It was found in the possession of Luis Rodrigo Tec Chalé, who claimed the animal had entered his property.
Canul now has Filemón back and has withdrawn his charge of theft.
He said he didn’t wish to make an ocean out of a glass of water.

DeleteSweet cute little donkey, unlike the nasty jackass who piked you. Hugs to Filemón, stay safe.
ReplyDelete_Canadian girl
Is this for real? was it meant to be funny? Kidnapping is nothing to joke about. No way to compare the thousands of human lives who have been affected by kidnappings to that of a donkey.
ReplyDeleteglad he was found though..
We all know that.. it is joke so just go relax it.
Deleteno mames que pendejadas es esto ?
ReplyDeleteQue no mames ese? Vajese de su avion sino pongale de aqui
DeleteBorderland beat has humor too Dumbass.. you are the pendejada for not getting the joke.
No seas barbero
DeleteIf a family can "forgive you" for a crime, the law just steps back and everything else is fine. This is whats wrong with México, anybody can kill a pedestrian with a vehicle, and no matter the reason, if the family "forgives them", there is no crime to punish. Looks like the laws are design to protect criminals and punish law aiding citizens.
ReplyDeleteAdorable donkey ! :-)
ReplyDeleteThese funny looking creatures are one of my favorites of all animals !! I am very happy Filemon is back.
What a story !!

Let make it Filémon Day here in BB?
ReplyDeletewhy is this waste of space even posted?
ReplyDelete@1:43 PM Why are you wasting space with you're miserable comment ? Don't be such a party pooper man lighten up. This is a nice change of news for us.
Deleteu sound like a whiny hater 1:43
DeleteWhy so many Monday morning quarterbacks? If you don't like something, write a story and submit it.
ReplyDeleteGlad Filemon found his way home.
No doubt, a little good vibes story never hurt anyone.
DeleteI thought the negotiations for payment was for a person. I couldn't really figure out why the picture of the donkey was for. jaja..
ReplyDeleteWhat a relief...
That donkey is the new leader of CDS. This is as big as when the chapó boys were picked up and returned. CDS has everything under control.
ReplyDeleteLOL!!!
DeleteHahaha, was he pick up by cjng.....seems like it...waiting for the video where Filemon was minding his own business and fine dining...
ReplyDeleteHey, I'm no one, but this story does seem a little misplaced amongst the content of this site. Just my two pesos, which seems to be worth every day. Talk about Chong, Humberto Moreira and friends, Mireles, AD and what's left of the real movement, shifting borders between the bad guys, news from the frontera. That's what I come here for anyway.
ReplyDeleteI typically view Borderland Beat as a site where it's writers take seriously what is happening in Mexico so it's a bit surprising to see this piece published here. Not offended by it, but it definitely seems out of place and not what I come to this site for.
ReplyDelete@4:01 I wrote the story and I take a little offense at your comment about the writers usually take seriously what is happening in Mexico, seemingly implying that I don't. If you search the archives for DD you will find hundreds of my stories going back to 2013 when I became a reporter on Main Page. If you do the same search on the Forum search engine you will find more than 5,000 stories and comments going back to 2011 which show how much I care and take seriously what is happening in Mexico.
DeleteI disagree with you that an occasional (really very rare) fun story is out of place.
Dude, most stolen animals are kept and not held for ransom...if you want to link what is happening in Mexico to Filemón just deduce the trickle down effect of organised crime kidnappings of humans to the average thief making a quick dollar on Mr. Canul's donkey.
Delete_Canadian girl heehawww
7:23-Keep up the good work DD.It should be a policy at BB that for work to be critiqued should only be from authors whose work has graced the BB pages.Well that's stretching it a bit but you get the drift. It's good to have an enlightening story once in a while like the cop who lost her job for flashing her boobs as most are really intense with a definite negative streak in them eg.no happy endings. It also is narco related even though I'm pretty sure the kidnapper wasn't a narco but the mentality exists as Canadian girl pointed out.It makes me wonder how prevalent animal kidnappings are in Mexico? What about a prize bull or stallion or the whole herd for that matter?
DeleteSomebody mentions "el señor de los gallos" and I was wondering about the gallinas, no even break for them, or that is a state secret of the narcos?
DeleteAnd don't start messing with the commenters, we are more than you talibanes, we can be right and wrong, hypocrites and sincere, and more, you poor little youses can only be right.
You guys should upload the supposed video of el Kevin as militaries help him! That guy is in pain and now I'm a little more convinced that it was the Beltranes who ambushed the soldiers

ReplyDeleteHey people chill out..........
You ever thought of how much Filemon is worth to his owner ?? maybe nothing to you but everything to a poor farmer, plus Filemon is darling , and the dude did the right thing by forgiving the neighbor PLUS , who cant use a laugh or at least a smile !!
Exactly.
DeleteMaybe El Vecino has a nice garden full of weed !
ReplyDeleteBurros LOVE eating that , seriously , especially the fully ripened "flowers" ........
Perhaps the neighbor had a point !
Filemon aka "El Ripper "
About 10 years ago in California a story made the local news about an animal kidnapping. Two jerks kidnapped a dog and demanded a ransom but luckily they were almost immediately caught and the pet safely returned to their owners.- Solitude

DeleteThat's some ghetto ass shit 2 be stealing donkeys. I've said it before and I'll say it again. GET A JOB! - El Sol Perdido
ReplyDeleteHey, I had a dog stolen in a small town in Mexico where I know almost everyone.
ReplyDelete" Dog -napped " AND after frantically searching for for 24 hours, including hiring the dude that drives around with the speakers on top of his car BLARING the news all over town unitl EVERYONE knew , sure enough , I got the pleasure of handing 100 US$$ TO THE POLICE and stand there and watch them split it with the punk the took her. They thought they could breed the old spayed pooch and sell puppies !
True Story, No caca........
