Video: gunshots ring out during mayoral event in Nuevo Laredo

Chivis Martinez for Borderland Beat
On Wednesday, a shootout occurred in the  city of Nuevo Laredo Tamaulipas during a mayoral event. The city borders with Laredo Texas.

The mayor of Nuevo Laredo, Enrique Rivas Cuéllar was inaugurating a mural around 2pm when shots rang out.

The event was being held in Silao Park, an area known for violence.  The shootout was unrelated to the mural event but security instructed the 150 guests to hit the ground for safety.
The audience was comprised of mostly women and children, who stayed on the ground for several minutes.  The remainder of the event was cancelled.

The mayor was accompanied by his security corps, composed of military elements and personnel of the State Police.

In the city council website, there was no mention of the incident.

Police found the suspect’s vehicle near the site.  No information was shared on what brought them to that conclusion. As for the people at the event, no one was physically harmed, not counting fear.

On his website the mayor says; “Nuevo Laredo is much more than these regrettable events, we will continue upwards, and we stand with you."

  8. Mexico . We can break it down and analyze every little bloody incident . The FACT is here in the USA , in the movies and opinions , Mexico has always been depicted as a criminal and instable place . Less so to the younger generations because it has become so "politically incorrect" in the carful non-offensive culture of modern day usa . Of coarse the usa has crime and violence . How many times in the past year , or 50 years as far as that goes , has outlaw groups sought out law enforcement groups to do battle ? I can recall instances that shootouts took place where criminals were trying to get away . Mexico is at a higher criminal level than the usa was at following the civil war .

  9. 11:50 in mexico the government sponsored criminals exploit the narcos, sicarios and all low level maruchaneros.
on the US the police gets paid by their masters and they arrest people once in a while, kill a few on the way home, and they get paid handsomely, it is not worth losing your police officer check on the US for a little supplementary income that in mexico is all the difference to a cop, but not all the mexicans are cops, by the way, i doubt your taxes pay for two minutes worth of an american police officer

    1. 2:09 blame the American friends on the North, they are even busy eating up all that is decent left on the US and lapping up their Russian billions of dollars off their dog food platters.
Luckily there are millions and millions of Americans refusing to bend over while others sell their silence for 130 or 150 thousand dollars before talking anyway...
Imagine My girlfriend Stephanie Ruhle, she asking on air 130k dollars for doing nothing? She wants that money, not even one million chinga, for the dirty proposition.

  12. How pathetic is the Mexican Mayor. He is quick to escape and leave the innocent behind. Way to serve your People.

  13. “It’s the government, stupid” should be the next campaign slogan for Presidential candidate.
Juarez is still Murder City, and El Paso is safe. Why is that?
McAllen is not a shootout location, or any of the other cities on the northside of the border.
It’s the government. It’s not Trump, it’s not how stoned the yanquis are, it’s the Mexican government and the lie that Mexico is a democracy, that it is a Constitutional nation. Mexico is a crazy, violent barrio. Sorry to break it to the apologists for Mexico and those who think a resurrection of V. Fox or some other phoney would change the country. It didn’t, and it won’t.
