Forensic tam carries the body of a Canadian woman stabbed to death |
Violence rocked
Mexico’s most popular tourist town, leaving 14 dead and five more injured in a
36-hour span, Noticaribe reports.
The deaths and injuries
were the result of six separate incidents between the morning of April 4 and
the evening of April 5.
Nine people were killed
on April 4 alone.
In the past decade, the
highest number of people killed in a single day in Cancun was five.
The killings are linked to organized crime.
On Tuesday, a judge
ordered cartel “queenpin” [at left] Leticia Rodriguez Lara, known as “Doña Lety” to stand
trial on multiple charges including drug trafficking, according to the
Associated Press.
Believed to be a former
police officer with ties to El Chapo, Lara’s crew allegedly mounted a bloody
campaign to take control of drug sales in Cancun and Playa del Carmen.
In March, the U.S.
Department of State issued a “do not travel” advisory for several Mexican
states citing widespread violent crime and gang activity.
Travel was not
restricted to Cancun, which is in Quintana Roo state, because “homicides
appeared to be targeted, criminal organization assassinations,” but travelers
were warned that bystanders have been injured or killed in the past.
Was the Canadian killed by a random act of violence or was she defending la plaza? If it’s locals and dealers getting wacked then so be it. Here LA people get killed daily and tourist still flock to the city. Point is that unless tourist are being targeted resorts not be affected much. The only people not traveling are the same ones that have never traveled and will comment on how dangerous Mexico is and only idiots travel to Mexico knowing there neighborhoods are just as dangerous.
ReplyDeleteHow is LA with the Jalisco and Sinaloa war? Are there any dead CJNG victims reported?
DeleteI imagine CJNG is even stronger in the USA than in Mexico.
8:01.. let me give you my 2 cents since you asked. Nobody really gets beheaded or chopped up or gets heart taken out or 72 migrants taken off busses and whacked or missing 43 youngsters here in California. the list goes on and on for atrocities that only happen down south. Sorry but i will gladly take my chances of getting shot at a driveby only if i am ever in a "barrio" or "ghetto" area of LA. I dont remember the last time we had a dude whos job it was to dissolve humans in acid.. or youngsters shooting it out with military... sorry man, California is safe. just dont owe drugdealers money and mind own bussines. The manner in which people die cannot be compared.
Delete@11:14 u r obviously rite!
DeleteNo comparison at all, there's also the little matter of impunity, comparison is ridiculous?
DeleteEven in peace loving Califa you are at risk of getting whacked by police officers or ICE of BP and if you are an innocent up to nothing that will not save you.
DeleteNow if you don't buy something you must be buying from the competition, and you got yourself a beating.
CANCUN is undergoing a takeover by getting heated up, specially now that Roberto Borges is not the goverror of Quintana Roo anymore and his corrupt business partners do not have daddy to look after them. Same same all over Mexico and Veracruz and tamaulipas...
Thats what you think look at murders happening by san gabriel river and legg lake people in dumpsters and hanged body parts missing look at jose luis saenz case
DeleteWhos the bozo comparing Los Angeles to Mexico???? There's a big difference. You need to stay turned and read more Borderland Beat to get your facts.
DeleteLol bozo comparing Mexico to LA.
DeleteAbsolute idiota trying to compare the US with Mexico

DeleteIsolated incidents, mistaken identity. It's not much worse than a mass shooting and or bombing or an airplane being hijacked. It can happen anywhere. Ive been living in Cancun for 2 years this July. It's pretty chill. No different from when I was in PV,Manzanillo and Cuautla. Cartels always fighting for turf similar to gangs. Sometimes innocent people get caught in the crossfire. (I grew up in Orange, was there 19 years.) -kao
I grew up in LA, live really close to the boarder now, spent a bit of time in Mexico (Mostly Durango area).. started reading this blog years ago when I first starting exploring Mexico.
DeleteLong story short, anyone with any sense would like in LA over most places in Mexico. If ANY cartel tried to pull shit like in Mexico in Cali they would get put in jail or killed by cops, they would never put up with that shit and if somehow the did the militray would take them out.
The Cartels can not buy the USA police and militray or they would have by now, that only works in Mexico. Shit, I had a cousin who lived in the ghettos of Inglewood which is pretty rough and I would honestly rather live in some parts of Mexico then Inglewood but not with the Cartel's there. Even Downtown LA, which was one of the worst places in the USA is way nicer now then it used to be, $3,000 a month lofts in buildings that were Ghettos at one time. La is one of the most culturally interesting places to be right now.
I love Mexico, I have had mostly great times there, but overall the Cartels are here but they will never be nearly as violent in the USA, they are afraid of our Police.
The worst foreign gang in the USA right now is MS-13, they are pulling off extremely brutal murders , minors as well.. but the USA will get them to, they fucked up.
Whaaaaaaaaaaat . A Canadian woman?😣😞 what could she have possibly done to deserve that?
ReplyDeleteAs if anything will change due to her arrest. Always another stepping in to resume business with violence! Fighting for what type of food will be served at ones table day after day.

That's very funny! You deserved a reply to that!
DeleteDamm a shame i lol, to that.
DeleteThat's it Mexico is not safe, Canada here I come, I speak some English too, and a little French.
ReplyDeleteWhich cartels are currently disputing Cancun?
ReplyDelete15 years ago even I went to Cancun cdg was in control
Los rojos en la zona turística y alrededor de allá es puro Zs
DeleteCjng has a big presence there and that's the reason Dona letty got arrested. Cjng has that plaza and not trying to let it go. They also caught Dona letty son. Last year was bloody because of cjng and cds (Dona letty crew) going at it
ReplyDeleteI like how all these nuthuggers know everything about the cartels like they have exclusives
ReplyDeleteNo respect for rule or law. Soon enough the country will be like your south and Central American neighbors. How long before Cancun matches Acapulco’s desolation.
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful place, soon to be the next Acapulco truly sad. Last time I was there I was told that it CJNG that ran the plaza, atleast as of June 2016 that is who the Taxis in both Cancun and Playa del Carmen paid piso to. Although it was explained to be , that the since the Taxis sent them so much business in regards to referring customers to by stuff from them that it was handled through the Association pretty amicably. Where as in Playa they had to pay directly. Not sure now as everything can and changes quickly....I imagine a place like Cancun will always be a coveted territory because of the influx of people coming, going, visiting, alot of money to be made.
ReplyDeleteI've been all over Mexico for the last 30 years, probably seen more places than most Mexicans. I've driven from Mexico City to Acapulco through mountains and slept in the jungle in a hut for rent. I've been to Cancun, Cozumel and Isla Mujeres at least 30 times. I took a cruise a few months ago that stopped in Cancun but I wouldn't go inland. I hopped off the ship onto a catamaran, snorkeled and back on ship. The Mexicans have ruined their own country!
