Both Foreigners Shot Dead in Culiacán were Colombian

Translated by Yaqui for Borderland Beat from: Noroeste

NOTE: This information is also run in Debate; It is a correction from the first incorrect reports that one of these foreign men was an American. We were suspicious from the time the news broke and now it has been confirmed that both men were Colombian citizens.

The two foreigners who were murdered on September 11, are both of Colombian origin. One of them resided in the entity since 2015 and had a parcel business, said Deputy District Attorney Nuria González Elizalde. It was originally reported that one was a US citizen.

"They are of Colombian nationality, so they were recognized by the consular authorities of the country of Colombia," he said. The crime occurred on September 11, when the men were attacked with bullets upon arriving at a home in the Pradera Dorada subdivision. The victims were identified as Jhon "N" and Alexis "N".

The second victim had arrived in Culiacán only a  few days before, explained the Deputy Prosecutor. The State Prosecutor General's Office contacted the Colombian consular authorities, and the bodies were identified by their relatives, said González Elizalde.

"There was also communication with the consular authorities, who recognized the nationality of their nationals, have provided the corresponding support and confidence for this Prosecutor's Office to carry out the corresponding investigations," he added.

The events occurred at approximately 7:00 pm, on Bahia de Altata street, near  the corner of Santa María Bay, in the aforementioned sector.  Detonations of firearms at the intersection of Bahía de Altata and Bahía de Santa María streets alerted the neighbors, who called the emergency numbers.

The bodies were lying near a luxurious blue car: one of them was on one side of the passenger side, while the second was located at the front of the unit.

The Attorney General's Office has already handed over to the families the bodies of the victims, González Elizalde said.

The crime is investigated as intentional homicide, however there is still no line of investigation to follow, the official added, and no motive determined.

"We still have not identified an investigative line in a specific way, there will have to be several mobiles that are established by the Office of the Prosecutor and will have to be exhausted gradually," he said.

    4. It looks like an Alfa Romeo. The article described the car as luxurious. A Nissan does not qualify as a luxury car.

    4. This is a stupid comment. It's not likely they were killed for simply being Colombian. Es mas probable que andaban trabajando sin pagar piso.
