Colombian Associates of Chapo gunned down in the southern part of Colombia

Authorities confirm that a 27-year-old woman and a man that, according to preliminary reports, was in possession of a false id, they were murdered during the afternoon/early evening last Wednesday when they were traveling aboard a vehicle during the rural area in the township of Orito, Putumayo.

It is known that the couple was intercepted by armed men with rifles. The couple was traveling in a Black Nissan with plates HYK-773. "They were intercepted in a very desolate area a killed with firearms", said Colonel Edilberto Garcia Guauta, commander in charge of the police in Putumayo.

The woman was identified as Diana Sofia Ibarra, who died at the scene of the crime due to the 20 plus bullet wounds she received while she was riding as the passenger. According to authorities, she did not have any priors and she was a native of Borondo, Cauca but lived in the township of Pitalito, Huila.

Meanwhile, the male, who was identified as Hector Efren Meneses Yela, AKA "Guara" or "Rodrigo", had returned to Colombia one year ago after serving time in the United States where he had been extradited to for a sentence related to drug trafficking.

"He is a person that has a rather extensive criminal record", emphasized Colonel Edilberto Garcia, commander of the Police in Putumayo during a press conference in the city of Mocoa.

"Guara" was considered by the authorities as the criminal with close ties to the Cartel of Sinaloa, of the Mexican "El Chapo" Guzman, and he had been captured in the Township of Candelaria, Valle Del Cauca, in 2011.

According to authorities, "Guara" was one of the founders of a group of criminals known as "Constru". The group carries out homicides, drug trafficking, kidnapping, manufacturing, carrying and trafficking of firearms or munitions and manufacturing or trafficking narcotics.

The authorities are investigating if "Guara" was killed by members of the same criminal group or if his death was due to a settling of scores between organizations that fight over control of the production and trafficking of substances of illegal use in the southern part of the country.
