Narco Corrido Videos: El Chapo, El Mayo, Caro and more

Translated by Yaqui for Borderland Beat from: Vanguardia

The mariachi is not the musical genre that predominates in the current identification of Mexico in the world. Gone are the days when the songs of those men in charro sombreros, suit with buttons and boots represented the most important genre of the country. Now, Mexico is recognized from the outside by the influence of narco-corridos .

Drug trafficking is , in short, a sign of our time. The production, trafficking and commercialization of drugs, from being a domestic problem in some countries, has crossed borders to reach global dimensions. Our country is not the exception, it has become an important producer of drugs, and its territory has traditionally been used as a bridge between the large producing countries of the south of the continent and the huge North American market. In Mexico, as in other Latin American countries , the corrupting hand of drug trafficking has touched all levels of society.
The theme of narco - corridos is varied but well defined and constitutes a philosophy of life with its particular approach to death and the enjoyment of life.  In narco - corridos,  people often talk about loyalty, love, women, and excesses.

At present, the narco-corrido has acquired a greater presence in the media. It has been considered as the most tangible product of the narco-culture. Several of its interpreters have come to be killed by the drug cartels themselves, becoming the soundtrack of the war against drug trafficking in Mexico.

Here we present you the most famous corridos of the leaders of the drug cartels in Mexico:

"El Chapo":

Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán, was the most wanted criminal in Mexico and after the death of Osama Bin Laden announced in May 2011, he became the number 1 public enemy worldwide. He has alliances with Juan José Esparragoza Moreno "El Azul", leader of the Pacific Cartel, and with Ismael "El Mayo" Zambada García, who is the right arm, friend and compadre of "El Chapo".

Who sings to him?

The song The Lord of the Mountain was written by José Ontiveros and interpreted by Los Canelos de Durango, describes alliances with other characters through word games and describes the power of the Sinaloa boss: Joaquín was, is and will be / fugitive of justice / The lord of the mountain / also chief in the city / That's why the blue of the sky / from afar protects it / even if it's cold or hot / Culiacán is hot / Mayo is the most dangerous.

"El Mayo" Zambada:

The number two of the Sinaloa Cartel and possible natural successor of "El Chapo" Guzmán is Ismael "El Mayo" Zambada, who is located as the brain of the organization. With great power and influence, it is said that "El Mayo" had a rank similar to that of his compadre "El Chapo" within the structure, but who has a more discreet profile.

Who sings to him?

Alfredo Ríos "El Komander" is one of the many singers who plays the corrido El MZ in which his power is exalted: The law wants to stop him / the contras want to kill him / but nobody has succeeded / the devil appears to them / and they pass , the years pass / and the MZ is ordering.

"El Azul":

With four decades in the "business", Juan José Esparragoza Moreno "El Azul" or "Don Juan" is a contemporary of Rafael Caro Quintero, Ernesto Fonseca Carrillo "Don Neto" and Miguel Ángel Félix Gallardo. Currently, he is the leader of the Pacific Cartel and the main partner of "El Mayo" Zambada. Juan José is located as a gentle and discreet person.

Who sings?

In the disc And Now It Turns out of the group Voz De Mando appears the subject Stories Of Juan Jose, that gives account of the personality, the businesses and pacts of "El Azul": I grew up in the business of the delinquency / but in fact I do not I am of violence / I have survived all the wars / trying to respect the rules / I raised an empire without using weapons / I identify myself more with my words / With the right ones problems are fixed / and with the right ones I have agreed truces.

Caro Quintero:

He is a Mexican drug trafficker, founder of the Guadalajara Cartel along with Miguel Ángel Félix Gallardo and Ernesto Fonseca Carrillo. He is considered one of the most famous drug traffickers in Mexico, which is why he was nicknamed "Narco de Narcos" during the 1980s.

Who sings to him?

The Invaders of Nuevo Leon interpret the corrido of the co-founder of the Guadalajara Cartel arrested for the crime of the  US DEA agent, Enrique Camarena.

Vicente Carrillo Fuentes:

The brother of the Lord of the Heavens fell into the hands of the police this October 9 in Torreón, Coahuila. $5,000,000 dollars were offered for his capture, because he is one of the founders of the Juarez Cartel.

Who sings to him?

The 'Corrido de Vicente Carrillo' was recorded by Valentín Elizalde, who was shot dead by an armed commando in Tamaulipas in 2006.

"La Tuta":

One of the most wanted men in Mexico is the leader of the Knights Templar cartel, Servando Gómez Martínez, alias "La Tuta" or "El Profe". In an interview for Mundo Fox he revealed that there are 10,000  members of the group in different countries and said: "Yes I am a criminal, but I want to be in a delinquent category, I'm not going to be raping, or making chingaderas; I'm not going to rob stores, nor will I go asking the one who sells enchiladas. "

Who sings to him?

The Porteño de Sinaloa dedicated one, the Corrido de La Tuta and Michoacán: they already have my picture / and also my voice / and they do not conform they want the old man / who will grab me / and yes, how not / first I will kill myself / as a man that I am.

"El Chayo":

Nazario Moreno "El Chayo" or "El Loco" is like a ghost. Even in mid-February 2014 the head of the National Security Commission, Manuel Mondragón, declared that the federal government has no evidence to confirm that the leader and founder of the La Familia Michoacana cartel is dead as announced in December 2010. .

Who sings to him?

The Death of "El Chayo" is a corrido of the Originals of San Juan that seeks to vindicate the performance of Nazario Moreno in Michoacán, in the last part of the song it says: El Chayo left a legacy / for all Michoacán / the Knights Templar / for his people they have to fight / they do not want war / they just want equality.

Serafín Zambada:

Serafin "Sera" Zambada Ortiz, 23 years old and son of Ismael "El Mayo" Zambada, showed his luxuries through Facebook and Twitter as his photo in a Lamborghini. He was arrested by the DEA in Arizona in November 2013 and faces charges of drug trafficking in the Southern District of California court.

Who sings to him?

The singer Gerardo Ortiz recorded the song "Serafin will be the beginning", which narrates the adventures of the heir of Zambada: Serafin will be the beginning, but he has already started / brings wood from the fines and his father is the godfather / never looks at a problem, when he walks / always walks well apprehended / Of the great heirs, is the most empowered / has loves of the good and the luxuries that he / she has wished / and if he / she has some problem, support of surplus / man has never lacked. He also sings to Archivaldo, the son of "El Chapo".

"El Mochomo":

Alfredo Beltrán Leyva "El Mochomo", arrested by the Army on January 21, 2008 in Culiacán, along with his brothers Arturo "El Barbas or El Botas Blancas" and Mario / Hector were known as "The Three Knights".

Who sings to him?

Los Canelos de Durango is one of the many norteño groups that have recorded the song "El Mochomo", which tells the personality and style of Alfredo Beltrán Leyva to conduct themselves: As if they were mochomos / so their race follows / I always look at them loaded / rise or fall / if the sun heats a lot / are encueran with everything and load / That's why is boss in the tribe, it has well-deserved / numbers for the accounts / the hand for the friend / caresses for the ladies / bullets pa' the enemies.

"Nacho" Coronel:

The United States government considered him the most powerful capo in Mexico. Ignacio "Nacho" Coronel was known as "El Rey del Cristal". He died in Zapopan, killed by military personnel in July 2010.

Who sings to him?

On his album Pero no Puedo Recorded in 2008, Fidel Rueda included the song Nacho Coronel where he exalts the value and how he challenged the authority frontally: I am a natural colonel of the sierra / of my father I inherited it / that attire that you bring, my Lieutenant / the government has given it to you / Do not plant more swirls, lieutenant / they are going to blow hats / I advise you to follow the path / and look for your gavilleros.

    1. Tucanes? Come on people. The Tucanes haven’t really had a hit since the hits last had them. And that’s been well over a decade. Don’t get me wrong I love their music. But if you walk into any Tucanes concerts you’ll see that the demographics for their music is easy to see. And mainly that’s 30 to 50 year old women thinking they still 20 year olds. And that applies to the men as well. The only difference is they’re either pushing weight en el baile (inside the dancehall). Or are the great pretenders that claim to be related or know someone that is in the game. The only reason Tucanes is on everyone’s mind is because of that dangerous Chona challenge that has every twat (men and women ) shaking that ass online for the world to see. That’s the only reason they have any relevance right now. - Sol Prendido

    2. Mr. 601 crybaby, there is always something to be written about, as long as there is rampant lawless crime in Mexico, it is guaranteed, that Chivis will be on it. Have a great day!

      Delete
    3. BDN also makes up stories within a legit post they have stolen. For example, the "near miss capture of Mencho" recently that was absolutely untrue. then the fake story stole from BDN by that american rag that steals work from blogs and calls it as being from their reporters putting their lives on the line.

such BS and why we do not use either of these as sources.

  22. Omg i just posted about corridos in the last Z article. So i like corridos myself, so most if not all these presented in this article are played on air( radio stations). Didnt the Z prove to be savage, combat worthiness, cunning, cold blooded enough to get some air play? Just as i like some from Los Rebeldes del Norte, i can like well Beto Quintanilla. But why the Gulf area get no corrido love? Especially here on west coast. I see favoritism. But is it a plan that radio staion progamers at least at paisa radio stations decided to leave the Z out of radio?

The radio station I listen to play very few. Not to mention that corridos plays narcos as brave individual all the time and when they get arrested the first thing the do is put the hands up.
