Two
days ago there was a killing of a foreigner in Playa del Carmen. Initially reported as a Canadian, however, he
was an American, 27 year old Taylor Kristopher Meyer of Hermosa Beach, in
Cancun to celebrate a friends 30th birthday.
Friday, when an altercation occurred in Lazaro Cardenad park in
Colonia Colosio. When police arrived they discovered Meyer
dead with a stab wound to the chest.
Today a suspect was
taken into custody. Armed with an arrest
warrant police have taken Hilario N into custody, he is accused of Meyer’s
murder.
The murder reporting by
the press has been almost nonexistent, and plagued with inaccuracies.
Initially
reporting the victim was Canadian, at a bachelor party, with transvestites and
had crack in his possession. None of
those allegations are accurate or confirmed by anyone. The rumors may have come from municipal
police to protect tourism.
It was
also reported he was partially beheaded, but from the image it is not possible
to determine either way.
Unconfirmed accounts by
witnesses said Meyer was robbed and attacked, his wallet, cell phone and shoes
were taken. Meyer attempted to chase
after the perpetrator and was killed.
Witnesses immediately called
the emergency number who were confused by where the location of the stabbing was and was "greatly delayed".
I was listening to the radio here in Chihuahua while taking a long drive. The radio announcer had a reporter with him to be interviewed. The reporter said that the reporters were told not to report on all the violence ind crime here in Chihuahua. They did not want the rampant car thefts, murders, extortion and other crimes to be reported. They are really putting pressure on the reports with open threats. Because the government was afraid of losing more tourists coming to Chihuahua. I looked at my wife and said that I really feel the radio reporter and his guest were really sticking their necks out. Things are way under reported here. My neighbor just had his truck stolen from in front of his house about two months ago. Strangely all of the street lights were shut off that night. I asked him if he thought the thieves had turned them off. He looked at me and said of course not, I and everyone else know the police had them turned off. This is what you have to deal with here. But it goes on with impunity.
ReplyDeleteI go to Chihuahua very often, two-three times a month, and we don't have any problems, but I've been told to stay out of Cuauht茅moc until they clear out CDS. There are an excessive amount of confrontation that go unreported there.

Delete“we don't have any problems”
Nobody has problems.... Until they have them.

ReplyDelete5:30 Sinaloas always keeping Mencho in their thoughts. What is wrong with you people? None of this involves Mencho or CJNG.
DeleteFirst mencho lover at 12:17...not sinaloan just regular guy laughing at nut-huggers like u thinking theyre almighty conquering mexico...haha
DeleteGet robbed in Mexico or, anywhere for that matter, and you are unarmed, just let it go. Not worth your life.
ReplyDeleteThey thought he was Russian too. What a mess!
ReplyDeleteMica
Actually they also thought he was from Costa Rica. And they said he was hanging, with 4 transvestites, who is telling the truth, soon they will tell Chivis not to report nothing at all.
DeleteChivis don't let the henchmen control your reports. We don't want BB runned like in China where everything is censored. Long live Chivis.
DeleteHow many more need to be killed before its declared unsafe?
ReplyDeleteMexico has transformed itself to a continuous behavioral issue.
From reading many comments who offer advice of what not to wear while in Mexico for safety reasons. One needs to ask oneself then why go to a place where one has to dress like a bum to enjoy Mexico's surroundings?
I'm sure vacationing consists of tranquilty and dressing for the
appropriate occasion when required.
Doubt that an apparel store dedicated to Bums are around. Even thrift stores would be considered as an upgrade.
Such a shame.
Then again him possessing crack did not make it any better. Rather, a low- life to engage in such.
Should have stayed home!
@6:16
DeleteRead the goddamned godforsaken article, compa. 馃槀馃槀馃槀
He didn’t have crack, nor was he hanging out with transexuals.
As for the rest, you are right.
El Cabr贸n De Tamaulipas
The victim I feel had little or no common sense as to wandering into hazardous territory. Remote barrios miles off of the tourist track featuring parties with lots of strangers. I won't do it in Lazaro Cardenas and I have lived here for decades. Being caught naked in a tiger's cage takes effort.
ReplyDeleteYeah yeah yeah its all his fault ?
Delete“Initially reporting the victim was Canadian, at a bachelor party, with transvestites and had crack in his possession. None of those allegations are accurate or confirmed by anyone. The rumors may have come from municipal police.“
ReplyDeleteI’m sure that those who always say that Cancun is soooo nice and safe unless you are asking for trouble would agree with this policy. Their intellectual disonesty knows no boundaries.

Sol you called that 1 right!Almost gawking like a car accident.
DeletePe帽a Nieto dont care about Mexico security
ReplyDelete736 of course not, he is leaving office soon, with lots of money, haven't you been reading BB, the government only cares how much they can reap while in office.
DeleteWow that is really sad.Not only do tourists have to worry about getting caught in the crossfire with criminals shooting each other but getting killed after a natural reaction to a wallet grab and chasing after him.I would do the same if I didn't see a gun and I'm a woman. Are the gangs branching out to robbing tourists or is this an opportunistic wallet grab because he looked vulnerable because he was loaded?
ReplyDeleteWow really you would do the same? Please please for your own sake don't ever travel or leave the house for that matter .In LA I've been robbed 3 xs at gunpoint and once with a knife, I came out alive all times . unfortunately this guy did not.....
DeleteThere are bad parts in LA, move out of South LA, learn from the first time. Also if your out late at night, your asking for trouble.
DeleteI sure do believe it could
ReplyDeleteI know the guy is dead but couldn’t he at least be covered up??? The locals look like tourist staring at a Dead Sea animal on the beach... photo almost looks staged or something... the cop looks like a tour guide showing everyone a dead fish...
ReplyDeleteGlad they caught the guy so quickly, I’m sure he’s the one that did it...
GC
Something is lot right, quick to catch a robber, but hard to catch other criminals, perhaps they just grabbed a buracho, from the street and pinned on him.
DeleteHis mother and father found out by the pictures in the paper. Can you imagine
DeleteThis is not true! I saw their interview and they were called by the U.S. consulate in Mexico. they both said that is how they found out. and it was a quick call.
DeleteThey also said they have NOT spoken to the FBI they just asked that the consulate contact them. FBI cannot help. it is Mexico, the parents wanted FBI to conduct the investigation. they cannot. it's mexico not the U.S.
Yes Mexican media notoriously lies, and are news directed. Yes it is about tourism. but to say "Mexicans lies' is offensive. I was contacted by a friend who gave me some info and I did my best even discounting untrue statements in the mexican media. you should be grateful. if you are a friend. which i think you are not. first you say you went to HS with him. then its your son.
time to get off the blogs especially this one and spend more time with your three children. you caused me a ton of work with your ignorant rant last night and flood of comments. we are volunteers. give us a break.
Good job chivis don’t mind the idiots. Narcos season 3!

ReplyDeleteNot only are Americans being killed by Mexicans in their own country but they're being killed in Mexico too!
ReplyDeleteFor years, I have been warning kin and friends to "not" visit any place in Mexico. Why? Because of stories like this and all the negative comments by people with first hand knowledge that follow such stories.
ReplyDeleteIMO: In Mexico, crimes of violence are way under-reported and when they are , one is left wondering about their truth value.
I totally agree with the person who just commented here and I think his/her comment bears repeating:

So, yeah, I will continue to warn my "ignorant" kin and friends to avoid travel in Mexico...."Even if they think that knowing Spanish and are very familiar with Mexican culture and will be with Mexican friends or family. By "ignorant" I am talking about people who have little or no idea of what has been happening in Central America and Mexico with respect to the victimization of tourists. blaa, blaaa, blaaaa.

I felt save in cdmx despite having any kind of police or private guards at almost each corner. Walking all over the city day and night.
DeleteThe same in Toluca and Guadalajara. Up and down from the morning until after midnight. Even with less police presence but sometimes .50 mounted on their pickup.
Got drunk each night and made it safe home each night.
Just follow some easy rules and you will be safe.
I think they bragged around drunk and tried to buy some dope.
I apologize to everyone! I f***ed up at the location. Playa del Carmen is 1 hr south of Cancun. No excuses. Sorry
ReplyDeleteHow far was the victim from the main tourist hotels in playa del carmen? What time was it? Was he alone? Poossible drug purchsse gone bad?

Why go to Hawaii when you can visit beautiful and friendly playa del Carmen , beheaded with a crowd ready and willing to star in the death selfie...馃う
ReplyDeleteWhite boy going after Mexican thieves in Mexico? I would give them my underwear if they ask for it.
ReplyDeleteMaybe he was drunk n talking bs things like build the wall n shit bb please call him estadounidense as we are all american there are more than 30 american countries on the western hmisphere.
ReplyDeleteYes but only one that's people call themselves Americans. Do Mexicans call themselves Americans? Try call a Brazilian American, or a Panamanian or a Costa Rican.
DeleteThe government take all the money of mexicans and they dont give a fuck the security of mexico
ReplyDeleteIf you do find yourself deep in Mexico, definitely don't get drunk and talk shit to anyone!
ReplyDeleteWho cares about their tourism? Countries need to ban travel to Mexico until they finally get a grip on who actually runs the country. This war crap has been going on since 2006. Now it is not surprising to hear of heads being found outside of a vacation resort. A resort that may or may not be an investment of a cartel. What is a vacation being locked in a fortress anyway? While right beyond the walls could be 15 killings a night. Why go?
ReplyDeletethank you
DeleteIve lived in playa. La colosio is not a good place for tourists. Unless you are with the locals or meeting someone you know. I definitely wouldn't let myself be led anywhere past calle 46 by a stranger. Which is probably what happened.
ReplyDeletefeet from the beach.
