84 Year Old Swiss Tourist Murdered in Acapulco

Yaqui for Borderland Beat from: El Sol
Robbers  assassinate a Swiss tourist in Acapulco in a botched attempted theft.

Two men were attempting to rob  a house but, resisting the assault, the man of Swiss origin and his wife were attacked with a knife; he died, she was taken to the hospital seriously wounded. The events occurred this morning at the Club Deportivo de Acapulco Fraccionamiento.

The morning of Thursday, in a presumed assault, a man originally from Switzerland was killed with a knife and his wife was seriously injured ,  in the Sports Club of Acapulco. Before 6 o'clock in the morning, a call to the 911 emergency service, alerted the authorities of what happened.

The events took place on Roca Sola Street in the Club Deportivo district , when apparently two men went into the house with the intention of stealing, and when they resisted, the couple was attacked with a knife .

According to testimonies gathered, the victims were on vacation in Acapulco and apparently the motive for the crime was the attempted robbery.

The 84-year-old man is originally from Switzerland and died from injuries caused by a sharp-cutting weapon. The wife of the deceased was seriously injured and taken to a private hospital for medical attention, including surgery.

The man of Swiss nationality was identified as Rene 'N', 84 years old; his 71-year-old wife, Mercedes' N, was taken to a hospital where she underwent surgery, as she had wounds on her face, hands, neck and left side.
The motive was apparently robbery and the weapons were knives, this photo tells the story.
As of this publication no one has been apprehended
The prosecutor, Jorge Zuriel de los Santos, went to the scene to lead the investigations and determine the corresponding responsibilities. The body of the foreigner was transferred to the Forensic Medical Service for the practice of the necropsy of Law.

  1. Went there in 2016 with my girl who was raised there. So beautiful and so dangerous. Definitely would not feel safe there. A lot of random violence all over the place. Much better place when the Beltran Leyva were in control.

    1. Agreed I worked as a consultant for Edgar decorating 1 of night clubs. He bulletproofed an office and preached how crime was bad for his business.

    2. I agree with you. I've been going for 27yrs. I now still go like one time per year as I truly enjoy my time there and all the nostalgia, but it sucks knowing how bad it's become and how out of control. This is directly in the tourist zone. All those bars along the strip are mostly closed now, empty or filled with low lives on the weekend, not like it used to be. Still the best weather and views in the world. If you stay at your hotel and rarely go out at night, I'd consider it a safe destination...The more you go out and about the higher the risks. It bad, but shouldn't be compared to Syria.

  2. About 11:00 A.M Friday,in Acapulco, at The Mega Comercial in the Diamante (Diamond) area, my buddy heard automatic gun fire. He said he heard about seven shots. He assumed a robbery was taking place. He did not stick around to investigate. Everyone scrambled to get out of there.

  4. I always warn my European freinds of the dangers of going over there. Me, as a citizen of Mexico living in the states (dual citizenship) wont bother touching that shit hole of a place till I really start seeing change to this senseless violence.

  5. Identified: En el lugar fue asesinado René Otto Zeidi de 84 años de edad, de origen Suizo, y su esposa Mercedes de Yta Martínez de 71 años, originaria de México, sin embargo ambos vivían en Suiza.

    1. Yeh sure that makes sense if the guy was 84 he was born in 1934 — Not very likely, a war criminal by age 11.

Nice way to blame the victim unless this was a poor attempt at humor.

  9. Since Peña Nieto is out of office the Mexican people will blame Lopez Obrador without considering that the society that they have created is the real problem.

  10. Have the condo and housing values declines in Acapulco? It would suck to own vacation property in Acapulco if you could not rent or sell it.

    2. Ironically not too much but my friends with villas for rent can’t even get them rented for New Years. You can buy places with a view for cheap though and rehab but I wouldn’t live there. I have friends that live winters there. They love it but definitely don’t feel safe like before. Luckily they are In Highrise buildings with security and others around.

  11. I know , I know.......I have friends that just went there. All -Inclusive , of course. CAN NOT convince them of reality, they don't want to know, don't want to see, and will NOT believe what I tell them until they see it for themselves. Naturally, they only read American tourism publications, don't speak spanish, count their Frequent Flyer Miles and WON'T read BB......typical heads in the sand. As long as it doesn't affect them personally..........sigh.

    1. Thank you for your contributions to BB, Yaqui. I wish you all the best in your new adventure. Reading this post, are you suggesting that Americans should protest vacationing to Acapulco until the government fixes the instability?

    3. Jorge zuriel is just posing as a serious investigator. He does strike an intense pose.

Another elderly Swiss tourist years back on the copper canyon train, resisted robbery and was shot point blank

His attackers we're supposedly flayed alive for the unnecessary attention by their cartel boss.

    6. @Yaqui

I know, right? I also know people like this, they say “I never had any problems”.

My retort is always something like “I knew a lot of people who never had any problems” (which, by the way, is the truth, unfortunately).

  17. This crime will be solved quickly I think. Whether it's the right perpetrator or not. Govt needs to show their competence when it's a foreigner.

  19. This is the heart of the tourist zone. Pretty much at least once a week there’s shootings along the costera in Acapulco. https://www.red-noticias.com/?p=137484

  20. Acapulco is overrated, zihuatanejo is a much better beach and no crime because the people there most get their money from tourists.

  21. I was the one who posted cartels aren’t as powerful as we think because they can’t get these thugs in line but wasn’t posted? Holy fuck you moderators must be from Mexico because you pick and choose your favourite comments just as you pick your fave cartels. I won’t be posting or reading this pick and choose bullshit site any longer.
