El Chapo trial: VZN confirms DEA nexus with Sinaloa Cartel

Chivis Martinez Borderland Beat

Zambada testified; The war between his father Mayo, Chapo and the Beltran Leyva began in 2008 after the arrest of 'El Mochomo' Alfredo Beltran Leyva because his brother Arturo accused Mayo and Chapo of having handed Alfredo to the government. On April 30, 2008, Zambada said that federal police (PFP) and military agents looted offices and homes of assassins and people who worked for the Beltran Leyva, acting on the basis of information provided by Chapo and Mayo.

After being asked by the U.S. prosecution—“What does your father do for a living?”  Vincente Zambada Niebla answered, “My dad is the Sinaloa Cartel Leader.”

The topic was to be limited by the court, but what was said by the son of El Mayo, Vincente Zambada

Niebla, in my opinion, was just right, stating both his father and El Chapo met many times with the DEA.

Zambada says Chapo, had the "indirect" connection with the US agency, the DEA.

He testified that he personally made a visit to meet with General Miranda to express his concern about the treatment that "the entire family" was receiving in raids against his mother in Culiacán. He clarified that in his meeting with the general, he did not enter the presidential residence.

Defense attorney Eduardo Balarezo asked Zambada, if his father had bribed President Zedillo, , Zambada replied that "no, my dad never told me that."
He had however issued a general statement during his first day on the stand.  He confirmed that his father and his associates bribed federal, state and municipal police, including what he says called “The "Yankees" or PGR delegates in the states as well as military and SIEDO officials.

Zambada acknowledges that his sentencing, which is scheduled for next month, is predicated on his testimony as a cooperative witness.  His sentencing and that of financial chief Guadalupe Fernandez Valencia, both had their hearings for sentencing and for Guadalupe her plea deal, postponed until after the trial.

I expect that Zambada will receive an ultra-sweet deal that will have him released in the blink of an eye.  He has already agreed to the forfeiture of one billion dollars and has been in prison since 2009 in Mexico and since 2010 in the U.S. if one factors in time served, good behavior reduction, he could shortly walk to freedom. Even if he were to receive a 15 years sentence, that would be only a little over 4 years.

It was only after I decided to plead guilty and sign a cooperation agreement with the US government that their prison conditions improved. As part of that agreement he was now testifying against his "compadre".

The defense attempted to bring Zambada to submission by using a heavy hand. Courtroom observers said it didn’t work, Zambada remained calm and articulate. Court spectators say the jury liked Zambada, even laughing along with him at some of his replies.  It is said he was a good witness. Not penetrable in his believable stance.

[Below:The prosecutors Guzmán presented this foto exhibit, where the defendant is observed dancing with an unidentified woman while toting a handgun.]

Asked if he and his father had negotiated with the DEA since 2007, Zambada stated that "the one who had the communication with the DEA was my compadre Chapo." He recalled that his father, and Chapo.  decided to seek a meeting between the DEA and Vicente in 2009, since he wanted to get out of the cartel business with the permission of his father and Chapo, but he needed take care of the legal matters facing him in the United States. He claims that the idea, was to offer information to the DEA about "the enemies of my father and my compadre Chapo”, such as the Beltrán Leyva, the Carrillo Fuentes and the Zetas, in exchange for seeking to" fix "the legal problems he faced in the United States.

He was asked if he knew that the information provided to the DEA would be shared with the Mexican authorities, he said yes, and that it was assumed that the DEA and the government of Mexico would proceed against the "enemies" of the Sinaloa cartel with that information. He said he met with two DEA agents in Mexico City but a couple of hours after leaving that meeting, he was arrested by Mexican "special forces."

But he was told he would meet with the DEA's regional chief and was assured that Mexican authorities would not know about it. He said he met with two DEA agents in Mexico City but a couple of hours after leaving that meeting, he was arrested by Mexican "special forces."

He was questioned about his "more than a hundred" sessions with prosecutors and U.S. agents, with his providing information about his father.

Zambada said that as part of his agreement, he provided information about the houses and hiding places, airstrips, offices and operators of his father.

Balarezo mentioned he had revealed everything, yet Mayo remained free. "If he hasn’t been arrested is not my fault---I'm to blame for that?"... Zambada answered with a smile. He retold the story of 2012, when he was taken from his U.S. cell to an office, where he was allowed to receive a call from his father. It had been a long while since he could speak with his father El Mayo. His attorneys managed to organized the call, made on the condition that he would ask his father to surrender.

No other information is given, but we all know El Mayo is still free, most likely in the Sierras of Sinaloa. But he was told he would meet with the DEA's regional chief and was assured that Mexican authorities would not know about it.

Mochomo

Zambada testified: The war between his father Mayo, Chapo and the Beltran Leyva began in 2008 after the arrest of 'El Mochomo' Alfredo Beltran Leyva because his brother Arturo accused Mayo and Chapo of having handed Alfredo to the government.

On April 30, 2008, Zambada said that federal police (PFP) and military agents looted offices and homes of assassins and people who worked for the Beltran Leyva, acting on the basis of information provided by Chapo and Mayo.

Today VZN named other sicarios; M1 [Torres] , Chino Anthrax, El Negro, Fantasma

When wrapping up direct, AUSA Amanda Liskamm asked Vicente whether he’s ever committed murder — he said he hadn’t but has ordered them “several times.” Kidnappings, too.

The murder of Francisco Rafael Arellano Felix, supposedly it wasn't Chino directly conducting the kill.  He had two of his most trusted men carry it out.

Assassinations were personally approved by Chapo and Mayo. They would discuss objectives and risks before giving the green light.

Vasconcelos

The Prosecutor asked about three specific incidents, including an attempted hit on former Mexican drug czar José Luis Santiago Vasconcelos.

After these looting, a military friend of Zambada informed him that the Beltran Leyva had as main objective to assassinate him.

They were following his wife with plans to kidnap her, kill her and send her his head.

This is when, Zambada left Qualiacan for Mazatlan

Dozens of people, including agents of the PFP, died that April 30 in clashes with allies of the Beltran Leyva.

Zambada said that he himself ordered Chapo and his father Mayo to kidnap and kill several people associated with their rivals.

Zambada said Vasconcelos ran afoul of the cartel because he arrested Chapo's son Iván Archivaldo.

Zambada said the move was "without basis" because Iván wasn't yet involved in the family business.

After three meetings, Chapo and Mayo gave the order for Vasconcelos to be killed.

He said they sent a hit squad led by an ex-military commando from Chapo's people. They sent a hit squad led by an ex-military commando from Chapo's people.

They were armed with three Guatemalan-made bazookas, but the guys were caught before the hit and the bazookas were confiscated.

Vasconcelos later died in a plane crash in 2008.

The cartel spent $750K on special equipment to intercept phone calls from a Mexican army source.

They overheard a cartel member named Julio Beltrán complaining about El Chapo and Mayo.

Zambada said Beltrán was grumbling about "esos pinches viejos" [ these fucking old guys] and saying it was time for a new generation to take over.

Mayo was livid by the comment and he ordered the killing. Mayo also ordered the murder of Teco Lindoro who he learned was working with AFO.

Mayo summoned Teco to a meeting, handcuffed him, and handed him over to a hitman to be killed.

Vicente said that while Teco was handcuffed, they called El Azul's son. The call was on speakerphone so that he could hear the interrogation.

Macho Prieto was reported killed during a shootout in Rocky Point near the Arizona border in 2013 Zambada is not sure if he was really died or not.

Video of second shootout scene slow motion

Note: A chase erupted, the military received help from two helicopters, they even used grenades to try to stop a pickup truck which finally ended completely burned in front of a small roundabout located at the exit of the condo complex. Two dead men laid dead there, both of them of heavy build, executed. One was close to the pickup truck, the other near the sidewalk.

At the same time, another shootout erupted at the entrance of the complex, there laid another of the hitmen facing upwards, in the middle of the median road, with a AK-47 on his side, loaded with a round magazine.

More bullets were shot in the hallway between the vacation buildings, there are even signs of the shootout in one of the condo´s facades, the luxurious apartment was left full of blood. In total –according to witness reports- there were five casualties. The other two bodies remained on the ground, without official custody, not even the yellow tape used to define the crime scene. < Passerbys drove around the burned out vehicle and two dead bodies, videotaping the scene, later uploading to social media including this video.

  1. El SR Mayo will never be caught.
He is protected by a 3 layer security detail made up of highly trained Antrax Black Ops agents .
He knows the jungles of Sinaloa like the palm of his hands. El Peńa 20 was ordered to escape from jail to head SR Mayo's bodyguard and enforcer service. El M tiene muchos amigos.

  2. He will get out in no time, will redo his life, the others will most likely get good reductions in their sentence, all at Chapo’s expense 😳 Would he be receiving the same treatment if he wouldn’t have escaped twice in MX? 🤨🤔 I feel that his escapes gave US a perfect excuse to take all their anger out on him 🤔 to make it seem like they’re doing what MX can’t.

Anyway, I feel that maybe this guy’s father changes hideouts and all that shit often that’s why he hasn’t been caught or maybe during those sporadic times in which his father communicated w/ his lawyers he told them to tell VZN to snitch on him to get out sooner?

    3. Yes I know it isn’t a crime in MX but to the US it shows incompetence lol. Besides it was also assisted by the law enforcement. No way he did any of that on his own.

Now they’re using those escapes to “prevent him from escaping a third time” and have him locked up like a terrorist.

      Well Mayo got lucky

  3. Of course. DEA is one of those agenices that unlike the CBP has no reason to explain their job procedures and or actions within their job procedures to anyone.
This is not mentioning that everyone new is Juarez during the top of the CDS vs Juarez conflict the majority of people arrested where from CDJ.
Wether there is a reason or not for these events DEA is deep in dealing with cartels.
Still does not make Chapo innocent of any shit however.

Some people clowned me but they saw for themselves how it played out and then they fucked the whole trade in El Paso Juarez

      here we go.
I owe BB followers an apology. I made an error in principal. When I write a post I usually do not have to look up much if the info is recent. I have a great memory. But in this case of the billion dollars, I did not recheck the plea agreement. and in the past I have read it at least a half dozen times. I just was not thinking in this case. I could offer excuses but really when it is your name as author, one especially has to be sure.

I forgot it was forfeiture. And there are reports that the billion is paid. that could be correct but highly doubtful it all is.

Forfeiture is seized assets. That is much different that payments of fines, restitution, penalties. And the amount of a billion is an overshot to protect any assets not yet known but exposed in the future.

No doubt there are many frozen assets waiting to be seized. and part of the plea is that VZN agrees not to fight it. so any assets already identified is now property of the U.S. only in the U.S.

In the trial VZN spoke of the Mexican government going after his mothers companies, saying those were carefully structured as legal bought with legal funds. Says he. Mexico does the same thing, they freeze assets, wait for sentencing and seize at that time. They did that in the Zetas money laundering horse race trial, especially with pancho colorado. So I think the U.S. gets US assets and Mx gets those in Mx. It is not about 'payments' in forfeiture.

I think, so far, he only has a 100 dollar fine, but that will change in sentencing next month....so bottom line there are no payments, the billion will be assets seized and for sure that has happened.

I believe Mochomo also had a huge forfeiture. they asked for 10B

“The government’s calculations of the gross receipts generated by the conspiracy need not be exact, because criminals, especially drug traffickers, rarely keep detailed receipts of their ill-gotten gains.”

The $10 billion amount requested by prosecutors was calculated through interviews with high-ranking members of the drug trafficking organization, the motion states.,,

    1. Of course. The government doesn't follow rules when they set the rules. When you get their attention you become Their property and its Their house their rules, he fucked over his own dad so how is it bad that he gets fucked over? It's a dirty two way lane and it goes both ways, but both come out gaining something, the government gets its top wanted violent offenders and zambada gets his freedom. And they had to do him that way because that's the easiest way to get the wanted men that are on his side, he wanted to give up only his enemies in exchange for his freedom but that would only give Chapo advantage to grow and get deadlier and this way he gives up not just the enemies but everyone for his freedom.

If he had not done that, he would have never been extradited and EPN would have allowed the next administration to take over 'the issue' that would have been AMLO and i don't think he would have allowed the extradition. I also believe if he would not have made the escape via the tunnel exposing to the world the depth of corruption, chapo would have been ok

  29. The Drug War as being fought has only caused more death and destruction.
Legalization is the only solution to minimize the destruction.
Of course, the dea and prisons and the judicial system do not want this as that would mean an 80% reduction in their staffing and budgets. Very similar to the military-industrial complex. Those multi-million $$$ pensions are the golden parachute for failure!
Admit failure and move towards legalization.

  30. Drugs will never be legalized as it ensures an ever expanding police state with larger weapons and citizens with less rights and freedoms. Same as the war on terror!

  32. zambada sr is a very smart man I’m putting all this together and it makes sense. (If this was the plan)
Is it a coincidence that Vicente got arrested and got extradited real quick right at the point at the war with the Beltranes and zetas?
Did mayo fear his son would get killed?
Did mayo plan to put his son away for few years
    Wile everyone killed each other?
Was that the plan since the beginning for Vicente to rat on his father for reduced sentence?
Did mayo give intelligence to DEA to capture chapo? Or wast it really sheen penn the hero here? Or did mayo just knew chapós time was going to come to an end soon and this would be another reduced sentence to his son ones extradited.

What I’m saying is if mayos plan was to have his son locked up in the u.s for safety reasons knowing that he would be free and take control of the cds one day.

Think about it if mayo gets cought or dies. Who would be best fit to lead cds?? Not chapós kids that’s for sure..

I’m sure Vicente got wiser and more self discipline in prison to lead cds.

    Just my two cents.

People talk alot of shit about SINALOENSES but ther the ones who have always controlled most of the drug bussines ther very intelligent about what they plan to do and I know that there's a lot of other big drug dealers in other states in mexico but its not the same as SINALOA I don't understand why people get mad about how CDS runs its bussines if they kill rivals or turn in ther enemies in or what ever what did you think ther was some kind of rules in the business ther in and another thing people act like it affects them if CDS says something about ther bussines .this is how all the cartels, mobsters, gang members what ever you want to call them they all corporate if its in ther best interest ther not loyal mencho gave Up his boss el lobo and el 85 know el lobo Valencia is snitching to but nobody talks about that at the end of the day we can all talk shit and say what we want but thers so much more to all this cartel shit that most people won't understand and are ignorant to think that ther just snitching on each other with out a real plan and agreement with one an other some times in order to win you got to lose sometimes and if you got to sacrifice your self for your family you will El mundo se acabo primero que LOS SINALOENSES

    4. 11:59 sinaloas will always have an excuse for snitching lol they are confirmed government informants. El Lobo, el mencho and who ever you mentioned are NOT informants tonto. With all that snitching, the cds are officially done. Just watch..cds cells going to do a lot of jumping around to cartels like cjng and even Beltranes

    5. 3:33 Beltranes will come back strong. I don’t see CJNG lasting and they sure as hell ain’t beating Beltran, it’s been proven que esa si es gente de guerra

    6. 3:49 there have been shoot outside close to jalisco with cjng and Beltranes, cjng pushing Beltranes further north. A few articles here how cjng left a bunch of trucks all shot up and beltranes running

  33. Since Chapo has been in American custody drug deaths and availability of drugs has increased in America.
Obviously he is not the Kingpin stated by the gvt!
Obviously a fabrication and should be freed!

    1. 932 haven't you been following all the incriminating evidence, that has been piling on him, of what he had done. He was a kingpin now busted and will pay the time. As for drugs flowing into US, that is being driven by other cartels, that soon will be busted.

  36. It seems like all the comments approve on the fact that The Beltran brothers were correct in thinking Chapo and Mayo tried to turn them in. They all favor the Snitchaloas. What they individuals did is the lowest shit you can do even lower then killing your enemies whole family. Pure trash lets see how many flip on the Snitchaloas or if they stay with them even after knowing how they operate.

Keep saying, answer this.. why cant mayo keep cds together? Why is Sinaloa all unorganized and can't compete with cjng now that chapo is locked up?

    3. What are you talking about? You want unorganized, take a look at michoacan. You have CJNG,Templarios, Viagras, la Familia, Auto defensas and now the CJNG guys that defected all fighting each other. Michoacanos cant organize to make michoacan great again... mejor no digas nada que calladita te ves mas bonita.

    4. Lol Sinaloa fan boys are mad at 4:59 by the way 5:57 you mentioned cjng 2 times.
The war in michoacan is due to cjng taking over michoacan from viagras, CT are aligned with mencho while la familia with viagras. That doesn't change the fact that 4:59 has a point

    1. 9:46 Snitchaloas why do you even have to ask. Why did they get killed to get them out of their way growing to fast Mayo and Chapo want their families to dominate the business. I bet the two snitchaloas ended up turning in the old guard as well.

    2. I think for oth those reasons. Essentially he tried to go against mayo and chapo that's why he died.

He had everyone ducking for cover even the goverment its a know fact that the secretaries of felipe calderon i believe it was mouriño and vasconcelos and another one all died in that plane crash on orders of arturo his people shot down the plane. It wasnt an accident. Thats why calderon went all out against arturo .
