Fentanyl: The death letter from the Sinaloa Cartel and CJNG

Translated by El Profe for Borderlandbeat from La Silla Rota
Fentanilo, el mensaje de la muerte del Cártel de Sinaloa y CJNG

It is up to 100 times more potent than morphine and the adulteration of heroin sent to the US caused an unprecedented increase in deaths from overdose.

In the last 10 years, the outlook for drugs in the United States has changed, with the threat of opioids (controlled drugs, synthetic opioids and heroin) reaching epidemic levels and impacting significant portions of the United States.

A particular synthetic opioid, fentanyl, is used as an adulterant by the Mexican cartels, specifically by the Sinaloa and Jalisco New Generation Cartel according to the most recent DEA report on drug risks for the United States.

While the current opiate crisis has received significant attention, the threat of methamphetamine prevails; the risk of cocaine seems to be re-emerging; new psychoactive substances (NPS) are still a challenge, and the focus of marijuana application efforts continues to evolve.

Drug poisoning (overdose) is one of the leading causes of death in the United States; currently at a high, and since 2011, has outnumbered deaths by firearms, vehicular accidents, suicide and homicide. In 2016 approximately 140 people died daily from drug overdoses.

According to the DEA, heroin poses a serious public health issue and a security threat to the United States; deaths from overdoses increased 19% from 2015 to 2016. The increase in the adulteration of heroin with highly potent synthetic opioids, such as fentanyl and other synthetic opioids, have led to extreme problems due to their use.

The number of deaths may have increased due to the increase in the supply of heroin and the increased use of fentanyl as an adulterant.

"The levels of cultivation of opium poppy and the production of its derivative (heroin) in Mexico, continues to increase, the main market is the United States. The heroin supplied in the East of the country is highly pure, cheap, and increasingly contains more fentanyl. Some indicators suggest that fentanyl is significantly impacting the market share of heroin, in some markets, it has even supplanted heroin," states the report.

Deaths from heroin overdoses are high and have increased throughout the United States, particularly in the Northeast and the Midwest. Deaths from heroin overdoses have quadrupled between 2010 and 2015; the most recent data indicate that deaths from heroin use amounted to 12,989 in 2015.

Deaths related to heroin will continue, in the short term, at high levels; the heroin available in the markets of the United States is of high purity. The increase in poppy cultivation in Mexico (the main supplier of heroin in the United States ) ensures that it will remain at high levels of purity.

The heroin market is linked to the highly potent fentanyl market, this combination will probably lead to an increase in deaths from drugs derived from poppy.

"Fentanyl will continue to penetrate the US heroin market, may eventually supplant heroin, because the profit margin for fentanyl is higher than heroin. Fentanyl replacing heroin will depend on the extent to which traffickers incorporate it into heroin and its distribution activities," according to the
DEA report.

WHAT IS FENTANYL ?

Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid, approved for use as an analgesic and anesthetic. It is extremely powerful, it has become an attractive drug for opiate drug users.

Fentanyl is also illicitly manufactured in laboratories in China and probably also in Mexico.

Fentanyl is used for its potent opioid properties, it is approximately 50 to 100 times more potent than morphine. Like other opioids, fentanyl causes euphoria and is very addictive.

Fentanyl is transported to the United States directly from China or China via Canada. It is also introduced via the Mexico-US border, where large volumes of fentanyl have been seized, although, these shipments are of low purity. On average these shipments reach 7 % purity while fentanyl seized from China can have a purity of 90%.

The Center for Prevention and Control of Deaths (CDC) reported that deaths due to overdose or abuse of synthetic opioids in 2016 doubled. While in 2015 there were 9,580 deaths, for 2016 the number was 19,410 deaths due to the abuse in the consumption of synthetic opioids. Fentanyl was mostly involved in the number of deaths compared to other synthetic opioid substances.

It is believed that the Jalisco New Generation Cartel and the Sinaloa Cartel are the largest traffickers of Fentanyl.

LMAO you have some fantasy if you think that the cartels could go to war with Europe. Stay in your corrupted shithole, there you can act as tough as you want.

    18. @6:20

Nah man.... outside of your country you are nothing. Come to Sicily or Naples and act tough and see what happens and how that works out for ya.

    19. @1:37

You can do what you do in Mexico because you have a complacent government which could easily kick your ass if it weren’t so corrupt.

Your shit wouldn’t fly neither in the Us nor in Europe, where corruption isn’t even remotely as pervasive as it is in your shithole country.

  2. Since fentanyl is superior to heroin when it comes to potency then how can it be an adulterant? Maybe an enhancer.

    1. Somebody already has. Pink cocaine a kilo goes for about 60k and no it's none of that lame strawberry flavored lavada. This is lab made synthetic coke.

    2. Pharmaceutical cocaine has been around since 1860 those of us who are old enough still remember when pharmaceutical grade cocaine would make it to the streets and though pharmaceutical companies still manufacture it... it’s use is rare these days—but was used frequently from 1860 to 1980– and typically comes as a mouthwash or a cream today I don’t remember exactly when off the top my head but around 20 to 30 years ago it became much more difficult for doctors to prescribe; they had to have a special license etc.

But it is still out there and doctors can and do still prescribe it, it’s primary use now is as a mouthwash for some people who are being treated with chemotherapy. But pharmaceutical grade cocaine, cocaine hydrochloride, is still out there doctors can still prescribe it and still do sometimes.

Do you ever seen the movie drugstore cowboy there’s a great scene where Matt Dillon‘s character and the author of the book and the movie was based on, rips off a pharmacy and manages to get a bottle of cocaine hydrochloride

  7. After 30 years of WoD and 'King Pin Strategy' we got more drugs and OD dead than ever before.

Thus the question is: who is stupid?

We (the 99%) or they (the 1% and policy makers)???

I think we all believe the policy makers to be stupid, but in fact we are the stupids being fooled like this for 30 years and 1000's of dead.

The policy makers got their billions in budgets, a population pacified by the flood of drugs engulfing us, pubic enemies they can blame evertyhing on instead of addressing real issues like poverty and inequality.

I would say the policy making elite got a us by the balls and everytime we try to breath they squeeze just a little bit harder.
