Local media note that the adjustments of accounts and clashes between members of drug cartels with presence in the State of Quintana Roo have left more than 120 executed in the first three months of 2019.
Manuel Arturo Alcudia de los Santos , "El Gato", alleged head of a criminal cell of the New Generation Jalisco Cartel , or CJNG, which operates in Cancun, was shot dead in the Valle Verde neighborhood , in the presence of his relatives.
According to media reports, "El Gato" was a drug trafficker and leader of one of the most bloodthirsty organized crime cells operating in the north of the state in places like Cancun , Playa de Carmen , Tulum , Isla Mujeres and Cozumel , all famous for being widely visited by Mexican and foreign tourists alike, as well as being promoted as one of the hotspots for the Mexican Tourism trade.
Unofficially, Manuel Arturo Alcudía de los Santos ,"El Gato" , received a total of 10 shots, and was considered the head of the plaza in the irregular colonies of Cancún . According to witnesses, the armed murderers were transported in a white car from which they descended to execute him.
The same sources point out that " El Gato " was originally from the municipality of Cárdenas , in the state of Tabasco , he has been wanted for several years by local and federal authorities for crimes against health .
This alleged regional leader of the CJNG , had already had problems with the Mexican justice as in 2014 he was one of the 28 arrested for the assault on the famous Fusion Hotel in the tourist area of Playa del Carmen , where they entered with machetes and clubs, they threatened the guests and their belongings were stolen.
Then, " El Gato " was arrested on November 18, 2018 by the State Attorney General's Office (FGE) for crimes against health , but in a suspicious manner, a judge ordered his release.
According to different investigations in that state, the Gulf Cartel that controls the municipality of Chetumal , as well as Benito Juárez (Cancun) and Playa del Carmen , and " Doña Lety ", which is linked to the Sinaloa Cartel and the Jalisco Cartel New Generation .
