"Comandante Bombón", Head of Los Zetas Sicarias Sentenced to 17 Years

La “Comandante Bombón, head of the Los Zetas Sicarias in NL, sentenced to 17 years in prison

María del Pilar Narro López, better known as the “Comandante Bombón”; Former member of the organized crime group “Los Zetas”, she was an important member of the cartel when she was still collaborating with the Gulf Cartel, under the command of Osiel Cárdenas Guillén.

María del Pilar was as cruel as any Zeta, she had the reputation of being everything but sweet, as her nickname might assume. She and other women members of "Las Panteras" were feared by anyone, and everyone , including members of the cartel itself. 

The capture of Maria del Pilar Narro López was made thanks to an anonymous call. On February 9, 2009, a citizen who identified himself as "Chuy" called the 34th military zone. He denounced that "El Gori 4" and "La Comandante" were in a house located on Paseo del Coral Street, without a number, in the Residencial Campestre subdivision.

"Comandante Bombón" and the other two detainees were persecuted by the authorities after killing General Mauro Enrique Tello Quiñones , a soldier who participated in the war on drug trafficking and who had been appointed public security advisor in Cancun shortly before being kidnapped and killed by Los Zetas.

She was arrested in 2009 for the crimes of organized crime (against health); development collaboration to enable the execution of the crime against health; as well as stockpiling of weapons and possession of cartridges exclusively for use by the armed forces.

Together with her they captured the chief of the Octavio Almanza Morales square, alias “El Gori 4”, a former soldier who was in the army from 1997 to 2004, and Francisco Gerardo Velasco Delgado, alias “El Vikingo”, who had been head of Security Cancun public.

At the time of her capture, “La Comandante Bombón” was the head of the women's section of Los Zetas in Nuevo León. The group, known as "Las Panteras", was responsible for corrupting the authorities, although they were so bloodthirsty that they also participated in the cartel killings, were heads of Plazas and even escorts of some of the main capos of the Gulf Cartel.

“These women were trained to kill. They did that when the person they contacted did not lend themselves to collaborate with the organization, ” said a protected witness from the Attorney General's Office in 2009 identified by the nickname “El Pitufo ”, who also belonged to Los Zetas.

In 2010 , the second District Judge in Criminal Matters in the state of Tamaulipas issued a formal prison order against María del Pilar Narro López, for her probable responsibility in the commission of crimes of organized crime and against health in the modality of collaboration to the promotion to enable the execution of crimes of that nature, qualified homicide and illegal deprivation of liberty.

At that time, the PGR issued a statement stating that the defendant allegedly collaborated with the criminal activities of Los Zetas. 

This August 15, 2019 , the Attorney General's Office (FGR) obtained a conviction against her.

Thanks to the evidence obtained and presented by the Federal Public Ministry allowed the Second District Judge of Federal Criminal Proceedings in the state of Nayarit to sentence her with a sentence of 17 years in prison and a fine of 375 days.

The Attorney General's Office (FGR) obtained a sentence of 17 years in prison against María del Pilar Narro López , aka the "Comandante Bombón" , identified as a of the main operators of “Los Zetas” and head of a group of sicarias ( female assassins) in the service of the cartel known as “Las Panteras”.

The Office of the Prosecutor explained in a statement that the “Comandante Bombón” was found guilty of the crimes of organized crime (against health); collaboration to promote the execution of the crime against health, weapons collection and possession of cartridges for the exclusive use of the armed forces.
