Police chief killed in Empalme, Sonora Marrufo Duarte was on board his vehicle, when he was intercepted by an armed group that fired at least six times on late Monday afternoon.
Manuel Oswaldo Marrufo Duarte , recently appointed head of the Operational Group of the Municipal Police of Empalme, died last night in a hospital in the area, after suffering an armed attack while traveling aboard his vehicle.
Around 19:00 the aggression was recorded, while Marrufo Duarte was driving his vehicle on Calle 5 de Mayo and Juan Álvarez alley, in the Modern neighborhood, when he was intercepted by an armed group that shot at least six times.
Marrufo Duarte, aka “El Balo” , received at least three impacts in his vehicle, a Toyota Corolla where his companions arrived to assist him and take him aboard a patrol car to a hospital in Guaymas.

Almost three hours after the attack, it was announced that the agent lost his life when he received medical attention at a clinic of the Institute of Security and Social Services of the Workers of the State of Sonora (Isssteson).
Elements of the Sedena, the National Guard and the State Investigative Police came to the site to cordon off the area, awaiting experts from the Attorney General's Office of the State of Sonora for the start of the corresponding investigation.
So far the reason for the murder of Marrufo Duarte or the identity of his attackers is unknown.
