Cotija, Michoacán: An open letter to the Mexican government

Video translation is as follows:

I direct this communication to the government. Hey, I have an inhabitant here in Cotija and we live very threatened by organized crime. Trucks pass by every day. We live in fear. A few days ago they killed a cousin of mine. And what did the government do? They just came through, presented themselves and left. That’s justice for the government? Occasionally armed trucks come through. And nothing happens? Everything is fine. They don't grab anyone.

The government never sees them. Supposedly they put the Guardia Nacional because it was going to be a change, a good change for everyone. And now we live more frightened. I have my 3 year old daughter, my pregnant wife. And I can no longer go out to work at ease. And with what money will I support them? I would like for them to see how the vehicles pass through here. Or was the Guardia Nacional bought out so quickly in order for them to do nothing? I don’t understand why they just come through to collect the bodies. Why don't they stay and see how the vehicles go by? They already took away from me a piece of land that was used to plant corn. And now what am I going to do? But no, in Michoacan everything is fine. Nothing happens. You can't live like this gentlemen. Mr. Governor do something. Why don’t you do anything? Leave your smile filled speeches and come over here to Cotija to see how the armed people go by. They no longer hide themselves or anything anymore. They pass through in broad daylight. How many people have not been killed, or houses shot up? And did the government present themselves? Of course not because nothing ever happens.

  1. Mexico needs to pay the American government for help. Otherwise Mexico will fail. The American CIA if paid to bring in 1000 of mercenaries can make lots of criminals disappear. The CIA is far more dangerous than any cartel. You know what a cartel member looks like or who he is but the CIA you have no idea who they are, they employee anyone sworn to secrecy. They could kill you before you knew who they were or what they were doing there. The given cancer to south america leaders that opposed the United States. If anyone doubts me research them.

    1. "pay the CIA"?
What you'll get, guaranteed is more crime, the moment there is cash to be earned by the criminals in the CIA.

    2. As long as you have internet access you are not too broke.
Get out of there my friend, go to Mexico City and ask AMLO in person, he will make sure you get help, no. Money needed to stay in his golf resorts.

  3. Wow this is a very sad situation for this person/people.. I genuinely feel very sorry for them and how orginized criminals kill, instill fear, steal, and just generally have total control over the citizens of Mexico in certain areas.

I understand that the drug trade is allowed to operate to a certain extent but all this other crime that comes along with it should not be acceptable.

The people who are in the drug game should be the only ones with these issues because they choose that life style and what comes with it not the average citizens.

  5. This man is crying out and I can feel his pain. These cartels are destroying honest hard working people lives that wants nothing or has nothing to do with drugs, rape, extortion, and murder. Its a shame the ones that are suppose to serve and protect are brought and sold, some for money, some out of fear.Nonetheless,it seems the cartels runs Mexico, the government is just a accomplice.

but also Much less Bloodshed than a real violent revolution,
--Desperates like yourself do not want to shed their own blood there or contribute to multiplying the death rate ten to a hundred times over due to impatience like yours.

  7. This kind've smells funny. Why would you identify your small town, wife condition and age of child if you are truly scared. Could be propaganda to move against a rival. If it's true? sad.

  9. The only thing the government has to do is protect its people. Yet Mexico can't even do that. That's pathetic

  10. Thanks for the translation. This is why communities need legitimate uncorrupted self defense groups! The uncorrupted part is the hardest. When you are poor and powerless, the opposite can be to great to overcome. The saying that money doesn't make you happy doesn't apply to people in extreme poverty. Sad that this guys story is but one of thousands of other people in Mexico could tell.
