Ishmael Bailey, a New York police officer who provided security to Emma Coronel during the trial of her husband Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán Loera , was arrested after being accused of selling and storing cocaine, in addition to charges attached.
Although the formal accusation is not yet complete, finding him guilty could reach a sentence of up to 15 years in prison.
The Queens interim prosecutor's office, John M. Ryan, clarified that on August 27 the defendant met with a person who thought he was a drug dealer, although in reality it was an undercover police officer with whom he agreed to make the transactions.
Office Ishmael Bailey, with 12 years of experience, charged a percentage of the kilos transported, so he is accused of first-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, of conspiracy in the second degree for receiving bribes and official misconduct.
A veteran cop who prosecutors say once provided security for the wife of Mexican drug kingpin "El Chapo" was arrested Wednesday morning for allegedly selling drugs and taking bribes, the Daily News has learned.
Officer Ishmael Bailey, 36, was arraigned in Queens Criminal Court, where bail was set at $50,000 bond, with his lawyer, Jeff Cohen, arguing the officer has two children, pays child support and “does understand the severity of his charges.”
Prosecutors had argued for $250,000 bail, stating Bailey "is known to provide security services to escorts” — and even provided security to Emma Coronel, 30, who loyally sat through the trial of husband Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman in Brooklyn, where he was convicted and sentenced to life in jail for his role his role in leading Mexico’s Sinaloa cartel.
After Bailey’s bust Wednesday by officers with the Internal Affairs Bureau and detectives with the Queens District Attorney’s squad, prosecutors charged the burly Staten Island cop worked twice as security for an undercover cop posing as a drug courier moving cocaine in Queens in September.
In this regard, New York police commissioner James O'Neill said that "first-class investigators from the Office of Internal Affairs of the New York Police Department identified an officer who allegedly betrayed his sacred oath to the department and the city and built a case to eliminate him. "
On Aug. 27, Bailey met the fake courier, who agreed to pay Bailey cash for each kilo he helped to transport. On Sept. 4, the fake courier brought one kilo of cocaine and two kilos of fake cocaine and Bailey went along to a parking lot, where a second undercover officer took the duffle bag. Bailey was then paid $2,500.
Undercover officers met on September 4 with Bailey in Astoria, in the borough of Queens, and there they gave him a packet of real cocaine and two other fakes that he placed in a black canvas bag he owned.
On Sept. 12, Bailey met with the undercover in Astoria and was paid $10,000 to pick up two kilos from Maspeth. Bailey gave the cash to a second undercover officer and picked up two packages, one with cocaine in it, the other containing fake cocaine.
He was charged by police with possession and sale of narcotics, conspiracy, bribe receiving as a public servant and failing to perform his duties as a public servant.
“The defendant, a 12-year veteran of the police department, took an oath to enforce the law," Acting District Attorney John Ryan said. "Today, sadly, he is accused of taking part in an illicit drug operation. This kind of malfeasance will not be tolerated. I want to thank the NYPD’s Internal Affairs Bureau for their hard work on this case.”
Records show Bailey earned $93,949 in 2019. He was suspended following his arrest. His previous assignment was with the NYPD’s building maintenance section.
Bailey played for the NYPD football team three seasons ago, but was deemed ineligible to continue playing by the team due to trouble he got in with the department, according to a source familiar with the matter.
“He was removed from the team due to his lifestyle,” the source said.
Ishmael Bailey began to guard Emma Colonel in the second part of the so-called Judgment of the Century from January of this year. At that time, the media follow-up on the wife of "El Chapo" Guzmán prevented her from even being able to walk on the sidewalk of Cadman Square, where the Federal Court of the eastern district of New York is located.
From there he became the shadow of Colonel and one of her lawyers, Mariel Colón.
What are the odds that other officers are corrupt?
ReplyDeleteNot much of a difference when it comes to those Mexican officials. Quick and easy money will often blind one of his moral code. Especially if he's way over his head of living expenses.
Yet his outcast from his colleagues never recieved any special attention for supervision or review. A common practice when it pertains to being a RAT.
Good money is made as a cop, he had to f up, now he is fired from being a cop.
ReplyDeleteI’m telling you! The problem has never been drug addiction the problem is money addiction from the higher level of people that are fighting it.

ReplyDeleteNot smart . The tell tale sign that he was corrupt was being seen beside a person that has drug trafficking in her DNA . Anybody with a mild amount of human intelligence could figure out he is probably dirty . I guess the DNA part is a little extreme . How about embedded in her values for generations ?
ReplyDeleteBut, but, police corruption anywhere in the US is what it is all about, not even the big salaries they make help them stay on the right side of the thin red line. They are even in the hordes of presidential supporters because of their casino & hotel investments supported by their union fees and pension funds, just getting used like the original teamsters, the gangsters founders of their Union like Jimmy Hoffa, disappeared to steal his organization by worse people than him.
ReplyDeleteThere’s rumors that Bailey was messing around with Emma.
ReplyDeleteNo there isn't. Not even close.
