Federal Court orders review for possible "over serving sentence" imposed on Miguel Ángel Félix

A federal court ordered a judge to investigate whether Miguel Ángel Félix Gallardo is serving a greater sentence than he was given....

A federal court ordered a judge in Jalisco to determine whether Miguel Ángel Félix Gallardo "El Jefe de Jefes", former leader of the Guadalajara cartel, must serve his entire sentence of 37 years in prison.

The Second Collegiate Court in Criminal Matters of the First Circuit indicated that the Fourth District Judge of Amparo in Criminal Matters in Jalisco should study the amparo promoted by the defense of Félix Gallardo, which alleges that the drug trafficker could serve more time incarcerated than the sentence for which he was convicted.

“It must be taken into account that, in order to determine the date of the conviction of the sentence, the judge had to make a calculation taking into account, at least, the time that the sentenced person has been deprived of his freedom and the prison sentence imposed in the sentence definitive, ”said the court, according to Milenio.

He added that the review exercise seeks to prevent, due to improper computation, increase or decrease the time in prison of a sentenced person.

The resolution of the magistrates arises after both the Judge Ninth of Amparo District in Criminal Matters in Mexico City and the Fourth District of Amparo in Criminal Matters based in Jalisco, said they did not know the amparo promoted by Félix Gallardo.

The defense said that the judge was wrong in ruling the sentence.

Miguel Ángel Félix Gallardo is being held in the maximum security prison in Puente Grande, Jalisco, for his participation in the murder of DEA agent Enrique Camarena Salazar, as well as the pilot Alfredo Zavala Avelar in 1985.

Félix Gallardo was one of the most powerful drug traffickers in Mexico in the 80s, having as subordinates traffickers such as Amado Carrillo Fuentes “el Señor de los Cielos“, Héctor “el Güero”  Palma Salazar, the Arellano Félix brothers and Joaquín el Chapo  Guzmán, among others.

The drug trafficker has asked for house arrest by arguing that he is over 70 years old and has a poor state of health.

On 20 February 2019, a court in Mexico City denied his request to complete the remainder of his sentence at his home. The court stated that Félix Gallardo's defense did not provide them with sufficient evidence to prove that his health issues were putting his life at risk

  1. I wonder how men of his stature in the narco-world ofcourse, live in the prison system, he was completely forgotten as many other old time narcos
Do they have the semi-luxury inmate cells with worldly commodities, drugs women money etc etc, or are they just another walking dead inmate waiting for time to run out for the inevitable.
We have seen how many new age narcos live inside prisons topo chico is infamous with Z cells being decked out.
But old narcos like Miguel, don Neto JT huero palma etc etc

    5. Depends on where you are placed to do your sentence because of corrupt officials. My uncle did time with this guy, 17 years and said that Miguel, caro and a few other known narcos did the same time as everyone else. No special treatment. Look at this guy’s face it says it all

    2. He killed a DEA Agent who had two children and a wife. He kidnapped them tortured them for days and killed them leaving the bodies in a field. He even admitted to doing this, he should serve the rest of his life in prison

    3. We all know that the US government and American public opinion waged war against the Narcos for economic interests and many of the DEA did not even know who Agent Camarena was

  4. Really weird that RCQ and Miguel Angel Felix Gallardo were never extradited even though both have served long sentences in Mexican prisons at this point. Maybe there’s some well-connected people in Mexico that don’t want the men involved in the Kiki murder to face US prosecutors and judges. And maybe a few people on the American side of the border that feel the same. The story has been set, the past is the past, and no one wants to go digging through the many skeletons in the closets of the DFS, CIA, Mexican and American executive branches.

    1. Very true, the fact that he was sentenced as one the responsible people involved in the torture and death of kiki(RIP). And the U.S didn’t extradited him is very suspicious. Specially given that his death brought severe changes and punishment to a lot of low to mid-level dealers. It’s also some what suspicious how little to know information is available on the subject besides tv shows and movies. I’ve been trying to research the subject and found very little credible information.

    2. Maybe also the USG doesn't want to know too much about it's own people's involvement.

    2. The murder took place in 1985. Under the assumption he was convicted the same year that was only 34 years ago

  14. He was arrested in April 1989, did I believe his original sentence was 40 years. With everyone else involved already out and knowing that he was the godfather of Mexican traffickers in those days I wonder why he isn’t already free. My gut feeling is the CIA is involved in some manner… If you read some of the best books written about the murder of Kiki Camarena it’s Absolutely unequivocally clear that the Central intelligence agency was complicit and involved in the murder of the DEA agent and roughly 35 years after that murder they are still working to cover their tracks and cover their ass

  15. I wonder if he is on bad terms with RQ and Don Neto. He once was their boss.

  16. It’s funny how the Mexican government chooses to let him die in a cell secluded from everyone. I’m sure he has a few comments about how the cartels cooperated with the CIA at the time and both the US and Mexican governments want him taking everything to the grave.

  17. You kill DEA or border agent your fcked. Never kill DEA. They are connected with CIA so the perp will always be caught.

  18. Time sure hasn’t been kind to Miguel Angel. The 2019 iteration of the genuine article is a far cry from the flair and panache of Diego Luna’s portrayal in NARCOS: MEXICO.

    M.F.

P.S.—Would love to see a meaty, thorough biography of his mentor, Pedro Aviles Perez, whose methods set the stage for guys like Miguel Angel and R.C.Q. to rule the trafficking circles in the 80s. I know there’s been articles here and there (even on B.B.) but nothing complete, and 2001’s LA CLAVE 7 is a fictionalized telling of Aviles Perez. Something covering childhood to his 1978 assassination would be great.
