The bodies of
firefighters were located, authorities confirmed on Sunday.
According to reports
from state authorities, the first responders were kidnapped by armed civilians Saturday,
were found dead in Villa Unión
yesterday.
Around noon on Saturday
there was a confrontation between alleged members of the Northwest Cartel and
members of the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena), in the municipality of
Villa Unión, Coahuila.
Subsequently, in social
networks a series of shootings were reported in various parts of the community,
users shared various videos in which huge columns of smoke are observed in the
streets of the town, in addition to burning vehicles and convoys of trucks with
armed men.
In the afternoon the
Governor of Coahuila, Miguel Riquelme, emphasized that the re-entry of the
crime to the state will not be allowed
Firefighters in Mexico are true heroes. The pay is dismal, long hours; equipment outdated….and they are scrutinized by narcos, who order them to stand down when they are in attack mode. I recall during a time when a cartel was making an attempt to take a northern city in Coahuila. Zetas torched homes and a dozen businesses. The chief told us in confidence how frustrating it was to see property burn to the ground but given the warning not to intervene……

DeleteI am a dual citizen and spend most of the year in Mexico. I live in Allende so not to far from Villa Union. I don't believe they were in the drug game. The younger firefighter is a friends cousin. They were picked up because they know the way in and out of the area. He was found alive, beaten but alive.
