El Menchito is Extradited to The U.S.

The Mexican government handed over Rubén Oseguera González to the United States, El Menchito, identified as number two of the Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generación, federal officials said. The authorities consulted indicated that the extradition was carried out during the day, leaving El Menchito available to US agents.

Last September, a Collegiate Court refused to grant an amparo to Rubén Oseguera, with whom he sought not to be handed over to be tried by the Federal Court of the District of Columbia, in Washington.


After five years of judicial stumbling blocks, the Attorney General's Office won the battle and today handed over the son of the CJNG leader, Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, El Mencho.

In the last six years, El Menchito called into question the investigation he conducted against the government of Enrique Peña Nieto because after being arrested on January 30, 2014, he was released in December of the same year from the maximum security prison in the Altiplano , in the State of Mexico, because the then Attorney General of the Republic could not prove its alleged relationship with organized crime.

The Peñista administration had to draw up a new strategy and on June 23, 2015, the Army and the Navy arrested El Menchito again in the municipality of Zapopan, Jalisco, as allegedly responsible for the crimes of operations with resources of illicit origin, Organized crime and kidnapping of at least two people in Tepalcatepec, Michoacán.

However, Rubén Oseguera was acquitted of organized crime, in the form of committing crimes against health.

In July 2019, following the warning of a criminal group about a possible escape from the federal maximum security prison in Puente Grande, Rubén Oseguera was transferred to the Federal Center for Social Rehabilitation number 15, in Chiapas. Subsequently, he was taken to federal prison number 11, in Hermosillo, Sonora.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs granted the delivery of El Menchito on October 4, 2018, which was notified when he was interned in the federal prison of Oaxaca.

Oseguera filed an amparo against his surrender, but the Eighth District judge in the State of Oaxaca denied him the protection of justice, a resolution that was confirmed by the Second Collegiate Court in Criminal and Labor Matters based in the same entity.

The Americans want to judge El Menchito for his probable responsibility in the crimes of possession and use of firearms, as well as for conspiracy to distribute cocaine and methamphetamine. The DEA has indications that the required has trafficked drugs to the US since 2011.

They also seek to seize all property, investments and cash.

In his demand for guarantees, Rubén Oseguera alleged that he is not the same person that Americans seek to judge, in addition to the penalties that would be imposed on him, such as life imprisonment, is unused and our legislation does not allow punishments of this kind.

A few months ago, the defense of El Menchito said that if his client was extradited he will be in danger, because he said that a capital punishment could be applied.

The above is stated in the complaint that he presented before the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, the lawyer Víctor Francisco Beltrán García, who assured that he has made several complaints and filed complaints before the National Human Rights Commission, to denounce the irregularities in the extradition process , as well as in the criminal cases that were initiated against his client, but the authorities had not carried out any investigation.

Who is El Menchito?

El Menchito, Rubén Oseguera González, is also known as El Junior. He is the son of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, El Mencho, leader of the Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generación.

The boss allegedly controlled the economic resources of the cartel, in addition to the theft and sale of fuel in that entity.

He was also accused of ordering the execution of people who refused to collaborate for the cartel and was responsible for maintaining security defenses in Colima and Jalisco to prevent other criminal groups from entering their territory.
