The National Human Rights Commission reported since 2019 that in the Reclusorio Sur Prison the authorities allowed the inmates to control the prison and that the custodians were at a disadvantage to them.

Prison authorities, as detected and alerted by the Commission during a supervisory visit in September 2019, tolerated the co- government of the inmates.

"Exercise of authority functions by persons deprived of liberty. Presence of illegal activities and collections", indicate the observations of the National Diagnosis of Penitentiary Supervision 2019.

The prisoner operates with a surplus of more than one thousand people, with 4,841 interns.  They also emphasize that in the daily life of the prison, it was also difficult to punish the inmates.

"Resulting in deficiencies in the procedure for the imposition of disciplinary sanctions," the report adds.

  1. I’m sure disciplinary actions are meted out by the inmates with clout who likely have as much access to luxuries as they do outside prison. Piso for pillows, blankets, remaining un-shanked for the powerless inmates. Quite possibly a similar if not quite as fucked up scenario as Piedras Negras . Would be hard to top that level of complicity and horror

    1. @ 12:22-Not even close. I've known plenty of dudes that have been to prison in the US and it's not even close in comparison. Even the most fucked up understaffed pen isn't as loose as the prisoner controlled Mexican ones.

  6. Why does the media report this like it's something most people don't know? I live in America, and if you asked me if I thought cartels ran the prisons down there I wouldn't be shocked, in fact, cartels run the country, you're naive if you think they don't run the prisons!

  9. Any different from all other prisons in Mexico (or all of LatAm for that matter)???

One would risk drowning trying to read all reports of what is fucked up in Mexico at the moment and funnily: as soon as ANYTHING positive is reported one can't help feeling: see Mexico is not that bad after all.

Of course the government and organized crime know this and uses it.

  10. In other words, the Mexican government controls and oversees the manufacture, sale and distribution of illegal and controlled substances. This results in a record number of murders and incarcerated individuals which, by most accounts, happen to be male in the prime of their life. Consequently, these same individuals are warehoused with other like-minded criminals in overcrowded and underfunded facilities that have become training and recruiting centers for organized crime. In some instances these centers for "readaptacion" have been used as safehouses and headquarters for drug trade organizations(CERESO Piedras Negras, Gomez Palacio, Cd. Juarez). Graduation comes when these men are released or escape from these facilities.
This systematic approach by the Mexican government has prolonged the drug war and further deepened the chasm between first and second class citizens in Mexico.

  12. 3:35 I am glad that it gets reported
I am ignorant about all this "But Not surprised" Most Americans dont know or just does not care
Really what can we do to change any of it ? Nothing We cant do a dam thing
Except shake our heads and suport the wall to keep the violence illegal drugs from coming in America
Mexicos problem is embeded so deep and for so long It would take a complete civil war and more to change this The only thing we can do is try to stop the cartels from taking over here Which they have a solid foot in already Odd how when many get rich Where do they live ! USA Look at the trash in Mexico in al those towns
I remember seeing it in small towns when i was there yrs ago I thought then Why are these people so proud of their country is a trash dump they dont care what their towns look like Why ?
    They can burn it
Its a whole different up bringing culture The mentality is just so different in many people there
I know this site educates some Americans on whats going on at the borders but its not enough to get noticed. And if you did report on the eviroment issues
Or the child abuse/ sexual abuses / deaths or starving children etc Yea it would get some more attention But what in the end could we do When your President wont come clean When the Mexican officals here deny it or threaten the news reporters or kill them
I want the wall I want safty here in the states But I do also feel sorry for the innocents The adults made the choice to have children in war zones
But I feel that child deserves a chance but loses in long run
The adults should start a uprising agaisnt the war lords and gangs it has to be fixed with in.. America cant help unless asked to We have a treaty with Mexico..
Its up to the Mexican People to plea in a diplomatic way to America to take notice and plea to their President Mr Huggie to ask America for help
Mr Pres.Huggies ego will never ever let that happen for so many reasons, the main is he admits to not being able to lead his country being a failure hurts his pride to much
Millions of Mexicans can march and protest
    just like Koreans are doing
MEXICANS can make the change in Mexico but Only them can do it
Knowing that you may lose your life
In doing it Change will only come if you do your part to change it
    Reforma Mexico For The People
