Map of the groups in San Luis Potosí
At least six organized crime groups operate in the state of San Luis Potosí, according to a presentation given last week at a press conference by the Secretary of the Navy, José Rafael Ojeda Durán.

The drug trafficking groups with a presence in the state are the Gulf Cartel, Los Zetas, the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), the Northeast Cartel (CDN), Los Talibanes and a local group known as the San Luis Potosi New Generation Cartel (CSLPNG).

Control regions
According to information released today by the Secretary of the Navy, the Gulf Cartel has dominance in 19 municipalities of the entity. Many of them are in the Altiplano Zone, the Central Zone, the North Huasteca and part of the South Huasteca. The Gulf Cartel also has a presence in Salinas de Hidalgo, Rioverde and Ciudad del Maíz. They are reportedly led by Alejandro Ochoa García ("Cano" and/or "El 33"), an old-school cartel member going all the way back to imprisoned gangster Juan Carlos de la Cruz Reyna ("El JC" and/or "Tango 36").

Los Zetas has dominion in eleven municipalities in the Middle Zone, bordering Tamaulipas, and in the South Huasteca. They also have a presence in Matehuala and Rioverde. Their plaza boss is Samuel Rodríguez.

The CJNG has dominion in nine municipalities, especially in those that border Guanajuato. It also has a presence in Ciudad del Maíz, Ciudad Valles and Tamuín, as well as the municipality of Soledad de Graciano Sánchez. CJNG is lead by a former Zeta, namely Alfredo Alemán ("Comandante Alemán").

The CDN dominates three municipalities: Villa de Arista, Matehuala and the State Capital. Eduardo Cuitláhuac Flores Morales is the alleged plaza boss.

From the CSLPNG, the Secretary of the Navy recognizes its presence in Huasteca, mainly in the municipalities of Ciudad Valles, Tamuín and San Vicente Tancuayalab. They are a local entity reportedly led by Jorge Luis Soni Bulos, an ex-politician of an influential family.

The other cartel with a presence in the state is that of Los Talibanes, which has a presence in Santo Domingo, Villa de Ramos and Salinas de Hidalgo. They seem to be led by Roel Velázquez Caballero.

The federal Secretary of the Navy also considers the municipalities of Matehuala, Rioverde, Ciudad del Maíz, Ciudad Valles, Tamuín, San Vicente Tancuayalab, San Martín Chalchicuautla and the boundaries between San Luis Potosí and Villa de Zaragoza as the areas in conflict.

  1. According to some wise guys, former director of the polesia federal enrique francisco galindo ceballos is from the state, and the former university of San Luis Porro could take care of the problem, he just needs helicopters to spray fire and brimstone on the carteleros in the wee hour of the mornin', that is how he did it in Tlatlaya, he even contracted the "criminals" offering work on the ranch before murdering about 50 of them...he had to resign from his national post for that "crime of state" but is not being prosecuted. His uncle Julio Ceballos the novelist psychologist, is fam pi US for"solving more than 500 crimes" and could help discover a solution, he used to be a zeta from birth, hang with them to sell weapons and drugs and go arrested with them.
With such motherfackers in power and the police academy accepting only Zeta approved cadets, SLP will need to be born again to get clean...

    1. In July 2019 the CJNG uploaded a video announcing their arrival in Villa de Arriage. I suspect it is them or the Cártel del Noreste (CDN), who they fight for control with in that plaza.

    1. They must be affiliated with one of the groups. I don’t see how they could operate in SLP otherwise.

If Z was Isidro and BLO’s previous connection to Eastern Mex, then it must be CDN now, no?

    2. They mostly work out of Nuevo León (San Pedro Garza García municipality), right? The report from the Navy only included these six groups, but no doubt the BLO and other freelancers work in San Luis Potosí, too. I wonder if authorities have some sort of "threshold" requirement before they consider a group in the area as "operational".

  5. I believe CDG and Talibanes are allied. There is no way Talibanes could survive “independently”...

    1. The government and journalists now cover the faces of suspects, which I believe started in the administration Peña Nieto if I'm not mistaken. I'm assuming for legal reasons. But the government is also doing this to prevent people from "glorifying" narcos.
