El Mayo (left); Chapitos: Ovidio and Iván Archivaldo Guzmán (center and right) |
The city of Culiacán
is the battleground of a new narco-war. An internal war inside the Sinaloa Cartel
threatens to overflow. It is between two protagonists: the sons of Joaquín
"El Chapo" Guzmán (Los Chapitos) and a faction headed by Ismael "El
Mayo" Zambada.
It all started last November when a commando of eight
cloned vehicles from the Sinaloa State Police stormed the Agua Caliente area, a
northern sector of Culiacán. This is a turf controlled by "El Ruso",
the regional boss in the area and a close enforcer of El Mayo.
The commando was headed "Nini", a chief
operating officer of Los Chapitos. That evening, Nini's men were intercepted by
El Ruso's faction while driving through one of their roads. El Ruso's men asked
them what they were doing in their turf. "I am from here," Nini said,
who was apparently born in a community near Agua Caliente. "Doesn't
matter. This is El Mayo's territory", El Ruso's men explained.
Various versions collected by the Sinaloa-based
newspaper Ríodoce established that in the heated discussion
one of the hitmen said they supported Iván Archivaldo Guzmán Salazar (one of El
Chapo's sons) and not El Mayo. He proceeded to insult El Mayo. Those comments were an unforgivable
offense. Hours or days later El Mayo's henchmen asked Los Chapitos to hand over
that person. They refused. A day later deaths started to pile up around
Culiacán. The war had officially begun.
Previous
events
On 3 December 2019, large groups of armed been
appeared throughout Culiacán. They moved throughout the northern part of the
city, near Loma de Rodriguera. Social media news spread very quickly showing
pictures of these gunmen out on the street in broad daylight.
The government gave the order to close down schools.
Businesses in Culiacán followed suit and closed for the day as well. The precedent
of the Culiacanazo - when the Sinaloa Cartel prevented the
capture of Ovidio Guzmán López (one of El Chapo's sons) last October - was still in the collective
memory of Culiacán residents. Fear and panic soon spread.
Armed men in Culiacán on 26 February 2020 |
Multiple killings were recorded throughout Culiacán in
the following days. But on 26 February 2020, the Sinaloa Cartel made
another bold display of their manpower. Gunmen stormed into a house in Rubén
Jaramillo neighborhood and killed a young man who had just been released from
prison. Another young man was wounded in the attack.
Panic spread through Culiacán again as residents
shared pictures of armed men out in public roadways. The police
responded by sending its officers to the streets. The gunmen left as quickly as
they arrived. The city's public security director Cristóbal Castañeda
Camarillo asked residents to not spread rumors and remain calm. He confirmed
that the city's surveillance cameras captured heavily armed men roaming through
the city. Most were seen in various sectors of Culiacán like Las Quintas and La
Campiña. After these events, the friction between Los Chapitos
and El Mayo's faction was evident.
The northern part of Culiacán is considered
a stronghold of El Ruso, though some parts of this sector (like Mojolo,
Paredones, Limón de los Ramos and Jesús María) are controlled by Los Chapitos.
Jeep Cherokee involved in 6 March 2020 shootout |
On 6 March 2020, a shootout broke out in Loma de
Rodriguera. Four men who were traveling in a Grand Cherokee were
sprayed with bullets by another unit. The vehicle (pictured above) was
abandoned in front of the neighborhood's park, but the four men were not there.
Minutes after the shootout, a wounded suspect was
taken to a nearby hospital. His name was José Alberto Vega (age 37) and he is
the son of a former police officer. While he was being treated by paramedics at
the hospital, gunmen stormed the building and went to his room. They forced him
out of the hospital and shoved him into a vehicle.
However, a military convoy
was nearby and successfully prevented the gunmen from taking Vega. The gunmen
surrendered and were taken into custody. It was not established if the gunmen
wanted to rescue or abduct and eventually kill Vega, but panic had already
spread through the hospital.
José Alberto Vega, the suspect injured in the shootout |
As Culiacán authorities gave a press conference about
the hospital incident, they were notified of an attack against police officers
in Rolando Arjona street in Pradera Dorada neighborhood. When the gunmen
noticed that other police officers were following them, they got off their
vehicles and disarmed and slapped the policemen. The gunmen then shot at the
air. This was captured in video by several eye-witnesses who shared the
recordings on social media.
Meetings
The federal cabinet met in
Mazatlán to address the issues. Among those present was the Security and Citizen Protection head Alfonso Durazo as well as the heads of the Defense and Navy and the National Guard. The mayor of Mazatlán and the Governor of Sinaloa were also present.
But another meeting took place that same day. Representatives of El Mayo and Los Chapitos were present. They
agreed that the war should stop, but El Ruso did not want to reach an
agreement. Both groups agreed that the dispute would be settled separately by
waging a war in Culiacán.

nothing but big ass egos waging war on each other
ReplyDeleteJajajaja.

DeleteA quien quieren hacer pendejo?
DeleteEn lo pinche pueblos no ay crimenes. Todo pinche mundo se conoce y si entra un extranjero a hacer desmadre rapido lo reconocen. NO HACEN FALTA POLICIAS!
Y luego tambien si no pueden mantener a tanto chingado hijo pues para que los hacen.
No salgan con pendejadas que necesitan a los putos narcos para sobrevivir.
Conosco cantidades de gente de pueblos que no le deben nada a estos gueyes!
Mx CDS is not and will not go to war it's problems between gunmen not the leaders stop reporting bs
ReplyDeleteThe text you read above is a direct translation (to the best of my abilities) of the sources from Riodoce and Silla Rota. So if you disagree with the content then I would suggest you reach out to the journalists who originally published the material. Thanks for reading.
DeleteYou don't like it fool, then complain to Rioduce he is only the translated.
DeleteThanks mx. It's sad that this has to be explained continuously.
DeleteThe Chapitos must have lost all of whatever little brain they had.
ReplyDeleteThey are fighting Mayo?! Whatever you may think of Mayo, one thing is for sure...the man has connections up to his eyeballs and more!
He has been doing his thing for over 40 years! No arrest, and he is alive and free, that tells you he is connected on all fronts and is surrounded by extremely loyal people!
To go against him is simply dumb x100!!!
P.S. I am not anyone’s cheerleader, just saying what I see.
They are not fighting him. A cell that reports to him is fighting one of Mayo’s cells. Groups within cartels change sides all the time or go independent, this is nothing out the ordinary and for those on top it is business as usual, until it’s not
DeleteSome cartel wars start over stupid things. Thinking of Medellin vs Cali
ReplyDeleteThat started over Cali SNITCHING on an International Level and there FUNDING of Los PEPES.
Delete~Spectator
Wrong. Started when Escobar told Cali to turn in one of pacho’s members, Cali didn’t do it and that’s what started it
DeleteWhat did the mayos think...rating is unforgivable..
ReplyDeleteLet them kill each other. They are gangsters. Live by the gun, Die by the gun!
ReplyDeleteThey been at war sinaloa STYLE.. MAYO and chapitos Acting like they are cool but killing each other's people when they catch then slipping...
ReplyDeleteWho will El Peinado de Durango side with during this rupture? I know he works for El Mayo, but is always been seen partying and helping Los Chapitos, especially Ivan.
ReplyDeleteEl Peinado has his own problems. He's currently at war with El Greñudo.
Delete-Pepito
Heard barrera from Durango got killed recently? Can anyone back that up?
Delete@6:48 LOL good one.
Delete@4:10
DeleteA little cheesy and too easy but worth posting:)
-Pepito
Saludos a Chivis y Sol
He will always be loyal to El Mayo, but there is no friction between El Mayo and Archivaldo & Alfredo.
DeleteThe land of the lions fighting this is gone be interesting ex military vs ex military
ReplyDeleteBattle of the bad lands, then guys are hyenas
DeleteThe land of snitches and backstabbers!!! Watch mayo will turn his back on ruso just like he did to mt!!!
DeleteNo rival cartel enters sinaloa because they fear the sinaloa cartel so this dumbasses look for a excuse to fight each other lol and I'm not surprised they are train military man looking to kill it was a matter of time they started pointing guns at each other
ReplyDeleteLots of other cartels have entered Sinaloa years ago.
DeleteCjng go to sinaloa in a regular basis and kill cds, there are stories here if you don't believe. Just look it ☝
DeleteJust like sinaloa got they ass kicked trying to come to tamaulipas
DeleteYet CJNG has Sinaloas working in TJ
DeleteTwo high level elite groups go at it's crazy we all saw what they did to the Mexican military and especial forces, this should be a chess game with two at the best on the table
ReplyDeleteBut but Culiacán is safe and uhh it’s all under control. It’s pathetic how many people defend cartels like they’re talking about their alma mater. Every cartel is just plain evil and this proves it, you’re welcomed to party with them and talk highly about them, but as soon as you’re in their way you’re nothing but another target.
ReplyDeleteExactly
DeleteYou’re talking about the mafia, not elementary school. Obviously mafia/cartel organizations have to use fear and violence to get their way. If this page reported that they were having a tea party every week you wouldn’t be here retard. The mafia and violence interests you in one form or another just like the rest of us.
DeleteI like how you placed mafia before Elementary school, that just goes to show your way of thinking about this situation. Your choice of words just told me how little your aspirations in life are. When the words alma mater are said and the first thing that come to your mind is elementary school, pathetic if you ask me. The way I see this blog is simply news and nothing more, if you wanted to see gore there’s other sites for it, yes they post videos here once and while (more in the recent times), but I don’t see them. The main reason I like reading this blog is because it makes me laugh how people defend cartels like they’re a soccer team or something.
Delete822 yeah but he’s not praising the mafia like some idiots on here. That’s his point numb nuts
DeleteOrale where is Sacario 006, when we need him.?
ReplyDeleteWhat side will 006 choose?? Will the Chapitos lure him to their side or will Mayo be able to convince him to stay with extra training??? Stay tuned to this soap opera!
DeleteHe is on a mission with English Zeta.
DeleteIts el nini vs el Russo. Not the entire cartel. You stand corrected BB.
ReplyDeleteYeah, cause cartels are known for following the rules! And cause cartels allow you to be an individual! Duurrr, you've been corrected 1:47PM
DeleteAh que bueno que nos dices. Ya nos tenian bien preocupados estos de Sinaloa...
DeleteThanks for the comment. It is still an internal war in the cartel between two powerful factions (Nini versus Russo, or Chapitos versus Mayo if you roll it to the top). The last paragraph actually covers that.
DeleteThe last paragraph covers, the personal issues Russo has, by not wanting to come to a peace agreement.
DeleteMayo and chapitos are not gearing up for war, it's just personal issue between 2 of their lieutenants.
I translated the sources from Riodoce and Silla Rota as is, so you can reach out to the journalists there if you disagree. Thanks for reading.
Delete@MX, No need to coddle naysayers regarding this read.
DeleteYou can't make this stuff up...high drama lol, "a wounded suspect was taken to a nearby hospital...gunmen stormed the building...went to his room...forced him out of the hospital and shoved him into a vehicle...a military convoy was nearby and successfully prevented the gunmen from taking Vega."
Similar to a past BB read wherein a cartel member was captured, they started cutting his head off but he escaped bleeding, leapt over a fence with his hands bound..police showed up to shoot the kidnappers and after all the escaped dude went through he was killed accidentally in police crossfire.
Canadian girl
...oh, and 'slapped the policeman'.
DeleteCanadian girl
Canadian girl...With his hands bound he slapped the policeman? Bad dude!
DeleteHow many times has sinaloa cartel has fought itself now?
ReplyDeleteCity beefs
ReplyDeleteEl mayo is gonna end up abandoning russo to his own luck. Since chapitos and their people agreed to the peace agreement so did mayo, just not Russo.
ReplyDeleteGreat point. El Mayo may determine that El Ruso is not worth getting into a bigger grudge with Los Chapitos.
DeleteRusso is done. Mayo wont jeopardize it all for him.
DeleteDidn't the article say el Mayo was the guy asking for El Ninis from the Chapitos so he can have a word with him for disrespecting him to begin with? Why would Mayo now be pissed at el Ruso after this?
DeleteBecause russo doesnt wanna calm down like asked tooo. @ 12:39
DeleteEl nini agreed to the cease fire chapitos and mayo ordered. But not russo.
A el pinchi Ruso los Ninis le mataron a su amante joto. Por eso no se quiere rendir.
DeleteThis is perfect. Just what law enforcement needs to dismantle CDS in Culiacan, they're already divided now it's time to take it all back.
ReplyDeleteSome cops tortured and kill some of rusos people so ruso wanted the cop and ninis to ruso that is not going to happen but ruso went on and kill them anyways so chapos got mad and the way started. My guess is that chapo snitched
ReplyDeleteMayo will never turn his back on ruso
ReplyDeleteHe has on everyone else around him
DeleteThat's what I've been saying but then again did Mayo give up El M1?? If he did I don't think Ruso would feel too comfortable in this position.
DeleteI think what we’re seeing here is the beginning of the rise of the Chapitos.
ReplyDeleteThere starting to remind me of the early Arellano Felix brothers when Ramon wouldn’t give up one of his narco junior sicarios when Amado Carrillo wanted them to turn in the guy who shot his wife in the arm while they were fleeing the restaurant.
Amado wanted peace if they handed him over Ramon said no. Alfredo or Ovidio I feel are the brains like Benjamin and Iván the muscle like Ramon In a way. -SD
I agree, they are rising. I hope they know what they're doing though, the rift between Mayo & the sons isn't helping. There is a lot they could learn from Zambada. I hope he's writes an autobiography, that would be some read.
DeleteComparing Chapitos to arrellanos is not a fair comparison. Yes my blacked out hyundai looks like a Mercedes but it’s not.
DeleteYou ain't got a Hyundai, quit lying!
DeleteChapitos already have more power than the Arellanos
Delete12:36 You must not know much narco history to be saying Chapitos have more power than the Arellanos did during their peak. It's laughable
DeleteLol @ 10:06...Who would lie about owning a Hyundai
DeleteTwo lieutenants are fighting not entire group.
ReplyDeleteThank you! You know what's up.
DeleteYou have to back your people
DeleteLieutenants are fighting each other which causes losses, unwanted attention, weakens the cartel giving other groups or cartels an opportunity to make a move on them....Chapo Isidro is sitting on his comfy couch eating popcorn watching those guys kill each other doesn't get easier than that
DeleteLies, the problem in Culiacán Is Ninis va Rusas, Mayo gave the green light on Rusa so Ninis are hunting him down. Chapitos and Mayo are good.
ReplyDeleteI find it interesting that 006 hasn't chimed in. Would be nice to know where he stands in all of this and whose side he's taking. He's never alluded to which faction he falls under. All we know is he a super serious sicario.
ReplyDeleteSicarios Lives Matter!
ReplyDeleteMayo should just make annonymous tip give those little shits hiding spot to rival cartels and get rid of them.
ReplyDeleteYea I'm sure he will since he is known to betray his own people.
DeleteWouldn't surprise me if he did. Since everyone knows he ain't loyal to his members. Look at macho, m1 n so on
DeleteLook at what? You don’t know the back story’s Behind those deaths? And what they did to earn it?
Delete7:47 those 2 were out of control bringing way too much attention it's just businesses u don't produce or get reckless it's time to clock out...
DeleteGood job MX you been posting good stuff and daily!! That’s what everyone loves, you might be the new chivis
ReplyDeleteThank you! Chivis and the rest of the team are incomparable. I'm just happy to be given the opportunity contribute. We're nothing without you guys, our readers, so I really appreciate each and every one of you who follow what unfolds in Mexico and elsewhere. Be safe!
DeleteThis is what you get when you let peasants run a cartel lol here's what's gonna happen.. The Chapitos are going to take over. El Mayo is on his way out, God have mercy on his soul.. the sons are young & dumb but they have room to grow. If they can manage to stabilize their grip on power everyone else will fall behind & I predict this is what will happen. If the US remains committed to take down Mencho & his gang of meth heads that's a win win for CDS, Sonora & Durango don't have anywhere else to defect if the transition of power within the org. doesn't sit well with them. They'll be forced to fall in line. Only time will tell if the Chapitos will end up like the Beltranes or the CAF hopefully they can learn from those mistakes.
ReplyDeleteBeltrans still here 💯
DeleteMX,
ReplyDeleteThank you for translating and posting. Do not listen to the haters in the comments. Your time and effort is appreciated.
If people took the time to read the entire article, they would see it says Mayo & Chapito factions agreed to peace. Ruso is the dissident and thus, the ensuing war.
Thank you for the support. Like I mentioned in other replies, the article above is simply a translation of the cited sources from Riodoce and Silla Rota, including the title. Borderland Beat (BB) goes by what reliable sources say. If readers disagree they are free to comment but we go by what the sources say.
DeleteThis is two groups, everyone relax, green light on Ruso......btw, how are those CJNG fan girls doing after they let the mouse in. They are decimated in the US. Looks like the timeline was pushed back 6 months but they got em. There's a reason CDS/CDP are still going strong. Those DEA peops can never link the top. Keep the compartments tite... 100
ReplyDeleteWhos running jalisco for cds? Lets see if you really know what's up...
Delete@ 7:15 I'll try to answer your question, I'm not sure if I'm 100% correct. A shot caller is Martin Beltran Coronel "El Aquila", another one is Jesus Pena "El 20" a lieutenant of "El Mayo" who escaped from Aguaruto prison 3 years ago together with others high ranking CDS members, it is said that "El Cholo", ex Mencho lieutenant works together with the Sinaloans, and probably a few others...
DeleteFk royalty. In drug world every man for himself, last man standing rules all. Why would he be loyal if he could just stay free on top! BTW, I’m not a fan boy I just think in this dirty game you have to sell your soul afterall he’s killing innocents, so betraying his own men wouldn’t be a problem
ReplyDeleteMayo gave the word to take out el ruso to prevent a war after he refused to a ceasefire.
ReplyDeleteCds walking on egg shells cjng getti g help by some sinaloans to help secure Tijuana which wont happen so there moving g ti Mexicali but mexicali is hot rn
ReplyDeleteeasy fix. send one out to take over enemy territory.
ReplyDeleteIdiots they got enough things to worry about then this. LOL
Michelle Miller and the rest of CDS groupies acting like there is no war lol just like they were saying el licenciado was not fighting mayo years BACK lol ITS FUNNY HOW THEY THINK THEY KMOW BUT DONT KNOW SHIT
ReplyDeleteYou don’t know anything either bro, you’re on here stating OPINIONS like the rest of us mcfly.
Delete8:52 those guys claim their opinions are FACTS though 😆
DeleteExactly@12:18, those dudes will claim they have insider knowledge and CDS plans everything. According to them CDS never makes a mistake, it's all perfectly calculated.
Delete10:23 so true 😆
Delete
